ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Ben Kacyra - Digital preservationist
Ben Kacyra uses state-of-the-art technology to preserve cultural heritage sites and let us in on their secrets in a way never before possible.

Why you should listen

As a child, Ben Kacyra was taken to visit the ruins of the ancient city of Nineveh near his home town of Mosul in Iraq, giving him an abiding appreciation for the value of history. So when the Taliban destroyed the Buddhas of Bamiyan in Afghanistan in 2001, the Iraqi-born civil engineer was dismayed. In 2002, he founded California-based nonprofit CyArk in order to apply a highly accurate, portable laser-scanning technology he’d originally developed for monitoring nuclear power plants and other structures – to preserving the world’s cultural heritage sites, what Kacyra calls “our collective human memory”.

CyArk’s methods are fast and accurate: pulsed lasers generate 3D points of clouds, which render surfaces at accuracy to within millimeters. Combined with high-definition photography and traditional surveying techniques these data make it possible to create highly detailed media – photo textured animations, 3D fly-throughs – that digitally preserve our knowledge of heritage sites against natural disaster, war, and neglect, and make them accessible to the world. Among the sites already scanned are ancient sites in Mexico, the leaning tower of Pisa, and Mount Rushmore.

Ben Kacyra: Ancient wonders captured in 3D

Ben Kasira: 3D ilə çəkilmiş qədim möcüzələr

Filmed:

Qədim abidələr keçmiş mədəniyyətlər haqqında bizə heyranedici təsəvvürlər verirlər - amma onlar çirklənmə, müharibə və baxımsızlıq təhlükəsi altındadırlar. Xüsusi 3D skan sistemi ixtira edən Ben Kasira öz yeni sistemini dünyanın tarixi mirasını bütün incəlikləri ilə skan edib qorumağa istifadə edir (Qısa demo üçün sona qədər izləyin).

All of this happens in seconds.

Bütün bunlar saniyələr ərzində baş verir.

Ben Kacyra: You can see here,

Ben Kasira: Buradan bu sistemlərin

Bir nəfərin ənənəvi sorğu vasitələri ilə
02:01
would be hard-pressed to produce
38
106000
2000
bir gün ərzində 500 nöqtə toplaması
02:03
maybe 500 points in a whole day.
39
108000
3000
həddindən artıq çətin olardı.
02:06
These babies would be producing

Bu cihazlar isə bir saniyə ərzində
02:09
something like ten thousand points a second.
41
114000
3000
təxminən on minə qədər nöqtə toplamağa qadirdilər.
02:12
So, as you can imagine,
42
117000
2000
Beləliklə, təsəvvür etdiyiniz kimi
02:14
this was a paradigm shift
43
119000
3000
bu həqiqi fotoçəkmə sənayesində olduğu kimi
02:17
in the survey and construction
44
122000

sorğu və tikili arasında
02:19
as well as in reality capture industry.
45
124000
3000
paradiqmanın köçürülməsi idi.
02:26
Approximately ten years ago,
46
131000
3000
Təxminən, 10 il əvvəl
02:29
my wife and I started a foundation to do good,
47
134000
3000
həyat yoldaşımla xeyriyyə fondu yaratdıq
02:32
and right about that time,
48
137000
2000
və həmin vaxt
02:34
the magnificent Bamiyan Buddhas,
49
139000
3000
Əfqanıstanda yerləşən və
02:37
hundred and eighty foot tall in Afghanistan,
50
142000
3000
180 fut hündürlüyündə olan Bamiyan Buddaları
02:40
were blown up by the Taliban.
51
145000
3000
Taliban tərəfindən dağıdıldı.
02:43
They were gone in an instant.
52
148000
2000
Onlar bir anda yox oldular.
02:45
And unfortunately, there was
53
150000
2000
Təəssüflər olsun ki,
02:47
no detailed documentation of these Buddhas.
54
152000
2000
bu Buddalar haqda heç bir sənəd qalmadı.
02:49
This clearly devastated me,
55
154000
2000
Bu məni tamamilə məhv etdi,
02:51
and I couldn't help but wonder about
56
156000
2000
köhnə dostlarım olan qanadlı öküzlərin
02:53
the fate of my old friends, the winged bulls,
57
158000
3000
və dünyadakı başqa tarixi mirasların
02:56
and the fate of the many, many
58
161000
3000
taleyini düşünməkdən başqa
02:59
heritage sites all over the world.
59
164000
3000
əlimdən heç nə gəlmirdi.
03:02
Both my wife and I
60
167000
2000
Arvadımla mən
03:04
were so touched by this
61
169000
2000
bundan o qədər kədərlənmişdik ki,
03:06
that we decided to
62
171000
2000
dünyadakı tarixi mədəniyyətlərin
03:08
expand the mission of our foundation
63
173000
3000
rəqəmsal mirasını qoruyaraq
03:11
to include digital heritage preservation
64
176000
4000
fondumuzun missiyasını
03:15
of world sites.
65
180000
2000
genişləndirmək qərarına gəldik.
03:17
We called the project CyArk,
66
182000
3000
Layihəmizi CyArk adlandırdıq,
03:20
which stands for Cyber Archive.
67
185000
2000
mənası Siber Arxiv deməkdir.
03:22
To date, with the help of
68
187000
2000
Global həmkar şəbəkəmizin
03:24
a global network of partners,
69
189000
3000
köməyi ilə 50-ə yaxın
03:27
we've completed close to fifty projects.
70
192000
2000
layihə toplamışıq.
03:29
Let me show you some of them:
71
194000
2000
İcazə verin, bir neçəsini sizə göstərim:
03:31
Chichen Itza,

Çiçen İtza,
03:33
Rapa Nui --

03:35
and what you're seeing here
74
200000
2000
burda gördükləriniz isə
03:37
are the cloud of points --
75
202000

bulud nöqtələridir --
03:39

03:45
and our latest project, Mt. Rushmore,
79
210000
2000
və son ən çətin
03:47
which happened to be one of
80
212000
2000
layihələrimizdən biri olan
03:49
our most challenging projects.
81
214000
2000
Raşmor dağı.
03:51
As you see here, we had to develop
82
216000
2000
Gördüyünüz kimi
03:53
a special rig to bring the scanner
83
218000
3000
skaneri yaxınlaşdırmaq və fərdiləşdirmək üçün
03:56
up close and personal.
84
221000
3000
xüsusi qurğular hazırlamaq məcburiyyətində idik.
03:59
The results of our work in the field
85
224000
3000
Sahədəki işimizin nəticələri
04:02
are used to produce
86
227000
2000
media və təqdimatlar formasında
04:04
media and deliverables to be used
87
229000
2000
kolleksioner və tədqiqatçılar
04:06
by conservators and researchers.
88
231000
3000
tərəfindən istifadə olunur.
04:09
We also produce media for
89
234000
4000
Biz həmçinin
04:13
dissemination to the public --
90
238000
3000
CyArk internet saytı vasitəsilə
04:16
free through the CyArk website.
91
241000
3000
ictimaiyyət üçün yayınlar edirik.
04:19
These would be used for education,
92
244000
3000
Bunlar təhsil,
04:22
cultural tourism, etc.
93
247000
2000
mədəni turizm və s. üçün istifadə oluna bilərlər.
04:24
What you're looking at in here
94
249000
2000
Hal-hazırda siz qarşınızda tərəfimizdən hazırlanan,
04:26
is a 3D viewer that we developed
95
251000
3000
həqiqi zamanda nöqtələr buludunu
04:29
that would allow the display
96
254000
2000
hissələrə ayıran və
04:31
and manipulation of [the] cloud of points
97
256000
2000
aralarındakı boşluqları kənarlaşdıraraq
04:33
in real time, cutting sections through them
98
258000
3000
nümayiş və dəyişiklik edilməsinə imkan verən
04:36
and extracting dimensions.
99
261000
2000
3D oxuyucunu görürsünüz.
04:38
This happens to be the cloud of points
100
263000
2000
Bu Tikal üçün olan
04:40
for Tikal.
101
265000
1000
nöqtələr bulududur.
04:41
In here you see a traditional 2D
102
266000
2000
Burada siz qorunma üçün istifadə olunan
04:43
architectural engineering drawing
103
268000
2000
ənənəvi 2D memari mühəndislik təsvirlərini görürsünüz
04:45
that's used for preservation, and of course
104
270000
3000
və əlbəttə, biz uçuş xətləri vasitəsilə
04:48
we tell the stories through fly-throughs.
105
273000
3000
hekayələr danışırıq.
04:51
And here, this is a fly-through
106
276000
2000
Bu da uçuş xəttidir,
04:53
the cloud of points of Tikal,
107
278000
2000
Tikalın nöqtələr buludu,
04:55
and here you see it rendered
108
280000
3000
burada siz bizim onun formaya salnımış və
04:58
and photo-textured with the photography
109
283000
2000
ərazidə çəkdiyimiz foto əsasında hazırladığımız
05:00
that we take of the site.
110
285000
3000
görünüşünü görürsünüz.
05:03
And so this is not a video.
111
288000
2000
Və bu video deyil.
05:05
This is actual 3D points with
112
290000
2000
Bu 2-3 millimetr dəqiqliklə çəkilən
05:07
two to three millimeter accuracy.
113
292000
3000
3D nöqtələrdir.
05:11
And of course the data can be used
114
296000
2000
Əlbəttə ki, bu məlumatlar əsasında
05:13
to develop 3D models that are
115
298000
3000
daha dəqiq və bütün detalları özündə əks etdirən
05:16
very accurate and very detailed.
116
301000
3000
3D modellər hazırlamaq olar.
05:19
And here you're looking at a model
117
304000
2000
Burada siz Sterlinq qalasının
05:21
that's extracted from the cloud of points
118
306000
2000
nöqtələr buludundan hazırlanmış
05:23
for Stirling Castle.
119
308000
2000
modeli görürsünüz.
05:25
It's used for studies, for visualization,
120
310000
3000
Bundan təhsillə yanaşı
05:28
as well as for education.
121
313000
3000
müəyyən tədqiqatlarda və vizuallaşdırmalarda istifadə olunub.
05:31
And finally, we produce mobile apps
122
316000
2000
Son olaraq, biz virtual alətləri özündə əks etdirən
05:33
that include narrated virtual tools.
123
318000
3000
mobil proqramlar hazırladıq.
05:37
The more I got involved
124
322000
3000
Miras əraziləri ilə
05:40
in the heritage field,
125
325000
2000
daha çox maraqlandıqca,
05:42
the more it became clear to me
126
327000
3000
bu əraziləri və onların hekayələrini
05:45
that we are losing the sites
127
330000
3000
fiziki cəhətdən qorumaq əvəzinə
05:48
and the stories faster than we can
128
333000
3000
onları itirdiyimizi
05:51
physically preserve them.
129
336000
3000
daha aydın anladım.
05:54
Of course, earthquakes
130
339000
2000
Əlbəttə ki, bunda zəlzələlər
05:56
and all the natural phenomena --
131
341000
2000
və digər təbii fəlakətlər --
05:58
floods, tornadoes, etc. --
132
343000
2000
daşqınlar, tornadolar və s. -- də
06:00
take their toll.
133
345000
3000
öz rollarını oynayırlar.
06:03
However, what occurred to me was
134
348000
3000
Hər halda, mənə aydın oldu ki,
06:06
human-caused destruction, which was
135
351000
2000
insanlar tərəfindən törədilənlər
06:08
not only causing a significant portion
136
353000
2000
bu mirasların əhəmiyyətli hissələrini
06:10
of the destruction, but actually
137
355000
3000
dağıtmasa da, onların
06:13
it was accelerating.
138
358000
3000
dağılmalarını sürətləndirir.
06:16
This includes arson,
139
361000
2000
Bu törədilənlərə qəsdli yanğınlar,
06:18
urban sprawl,
140
363000
2000
şəhərlərin genişlənməsi,
06:20
acid rain, not to mention
141
365000
3000
turşu yağışları daxildir,
06:23
terrorism and wars.
142
368000
2000
terrorizm və müharibələri xatırlatmıram belə.
06:25
It was getting more and more apparent
143
370000
3000
Getdikcə daha da aydın olurdu ki,
06:28
that we're fighting a losing battle.
144
373000
2000
biz uduzacağımız müharibədə vururşuruq.
06:30
We're losing our sites
145
375000
2000
Ərazilərimizi və
06:32
and the stories,
146
377000
2000
hekayələrimizi itiririk
06:34
and basically we're losing

379000
2000
və ən əsası, kollektiv yaddaşımızın
06:36
a piece -- and a significant piece --
148
381000
2000
bir hissəsini -- əhəmiyyətli bir hissəsini -
06:38
of our collective memory.
149
383000
3000
itiririk.
06:41
Imagine us as a human race
150
386000
2000
Özümüzü mənşəyinin haradan gəldiyini bilməyən
06:43
not knowing where we came from.
151
388000
4000
insan irqi kimi təsəvvür edək.
06:47
Luckily, in the last two or three decades,
152
392000
3000
Xoşbəxtlikdən, son 2 və ya 3 onillik ərzində
06:50
digital technologies have been developing
153
395000
3000
bizə rəqəmsal qoruq qurmaqda istifadə etdiyimiz
06:53
that have helped us to develop tools
154
398000
2000
alətlər hazırlamağımıza yardımçı olan
06:55
that we've brought to bear
155
400000
2000
rəqəmsal texnologiyaların inkişafı
06:57
in the digital preservation,
156
402000
2000
rəqəmsal mühafizə müharibəmizdə
06:59
in our digital preservation war.
157
404000
2000
bizə çox kömək edir.
07:01
This includes, for example,
158
406000
2000
Məsələn, buraya
07:03
the 3D laser scanning systems,
159
408000
4000
3D lazer skan sistemləri,
07:07
ever more powerful personal computers,
160
412000
3000
daha güclü şəxsi komputerlər,
07:10
3D graphics,
161
415000
2000
3D grafiklər,
07:12
high-definition digital photography,
162
417000
3000
yüksək dəqiqlikli rəqəmsal fotolar daxildir,
07:15
not to mention the Internet.
163
420000
3000
interneti heç xatırlatmıram.
07:18
Because of this accelerated
164
423000
2000
Uzanmaqda davam edən bu
07:20
pace of destruction,
165
425000
2000
dağıdıcı cığır səbəbindən
07:22
it became clear to us that we needed
166
427000
2000
anladıq ki, həmkarlarımızla bərabər
07:24
to challenge ourselves and our partners
167
429000
3000
bu işlərimizi sürətləndirməyə
07:27
to accelerate our work.
168
432000
2000
ehtiyacımız var.
07:29
And we created a project
169
434000
2000
Və CyArk 500 Challenge adlandırdığımız
07:31
we call the CyArk 500 Challenge --
170
436000
3000
yeni bir layihə hazırladıq --
07:34
and that is to digitally preserve
171
439000
3000
5 il ərzində
07:37
500 World Heritage Sites
172
442000
3000
500 ədəd Dünya Mirasınının
07:40
in five years.
173
445000
2000
rəqəmsal qoruğunu yaratmaq.
07:42
We do have the technology
174
447000
2000
Bizim geniş miqyasda
07:44
that's scaleable,
175
449000
2000
texnologiyamız var və
07:46
and our network of global partners
176
451000
4000
global həmkar şəbəkəmiz daim genişlənir
07:50
has been expanding and can be expanded
177
455000
3000
və sayımız qısa vaxtda daha da çoxala bilər,
07:53
at a rapid rate,
178
458000
2000
odur ki,
07:55
so we're comfortable
179
460000
2000
bu məqsədimizi
07:57
that this task can be accomplished.
180
462000
3000
vaxtında həyata keçirəcəyimizə əminik.
08:00
However, to me, the 500 is
181
465000
3000
Hər halda, mənim üçün 500
08:03
really just the first 500.
182
468000
4000
ilk 500 deməkdir.
08:07
In order to sustain our work into the future,
183
472000
4000
İşimizi gələcəkdə də davam etdirmək üçün
08:11
we use technology centers
184
476000
3000
yerli universitet və kolleclərlə
08:14
where we partner with
185
479000
3000
əməkdaşlıq edərək
08:17
local universities and colleges
186
482000
2000
texnologiyalarımızı onlara verib
08:19
to take the technology to them,
187
484000
3000
texnoloji mərkəzlərdən istifadə edirik,
08:22
whereby they then can help us
188
487000
3000
belə yerlərdə onlar da bizə öz ərazilərindəki mirasların
08:25
with digital preservation of their heritage sites,
189
490000
3000
rəqəmsal qoruğunu yaratmaqda kömək edirlər,
08:28
and at the same time, it gives them
190
493000
3000
eyni zamanda, bu onlara bizim texnologiyamızdan
08:31
the technology to benefit from in the future.
191
496000
4000
gələcəkdə də istifadə etmək üstünlüyü verir.
08:35
Let me close with another short story.
192
500000
4000
Daha bir hekayə ilə nitqimi bitirmək istərdim.
08:39
Two years ago, we were approached
193
504000
2000
İki il əvvəl həmkərlarımız
08:41
by a partner of ours to digitally preserve
194
506000
3000
önəmli miraslardan birinin - UNESCO-nun Uqandadakı
08:44
an important heritage site,
195
509000
2000
mirası Kasubi Kral Sərdabələrinin
08:46
a UNESCO heritage site in Uganda,
196
511000
3000
rəqəmsal qoruğunu
08:49
the Royal Kasubi Tombs.
197
514000
3000
hazırlamaq üçün bizə yaxınlaşdılar.
08:52
The work was done successfully in the field,
198
517000
3000
Ərazidə işimiz uğurla bitdi,
08:55
and the data was archived
199
520000
2000
məlumatları arxivləşdirdik və
08:57
and publicly disseminated
200
522000
2000
CyArk saytı vasitəsilə
08:59
through the CyArk website.
201
524000
3000
ictimaiyyətə bildirdik.
09:02
Last March,
202
527000
2000
Keçən Mart ayında
09:04
we received very sad news.
203
529000
3000
çox kədərli bir xəbər aldıq.
09:07
The Royal Tombs had been destroyed
204
532000
3000
Kral Sərdabələri qəsdən törədildiyi güman edilən
09:10
by suspected arson.
205
535000
3000
yanğın tərəfindən dağıdılıb.
09:13
A few days later, we received a call:
206
538000
3000
Bir neçə gün sonra bir zəng gəldi:
09:16
"Is the data available
207
541000
3000
"Məlumatları əldə etmək və
09:19
and can it be used for reconstruction?"
208
544000
4000
rekonstruksiyada istifadə etmək mümkündürmü?"
09:23
Our answer, of course, was yes.
209
548000
3000
Bizim cavabımız, əlbəttə ki, mümkündür idi.
09:28
Let me leave you with a final thought.
210
553000
3000
İcazə verin son fikrimi deyərək sizi tərk edim.
09:31
Our heritage is much more than
211
556000
3000
Bizim mirasımız
09:34
our collective memory --
212
559000
2000
ümumi yaddaşımızdan daha artıqdır --
09:36
it's our collective treasure.
213
561000
2000
o bizim ümumi xəzinəmizdir.
09:38
We owe it to our children,
214
563000
3000
Biz bunu övladlarımıza, nəvələrimizə
09:41
our grandchildren and the generations
215
566000
2000
və görməyəcəyimiz
09:43
we will never meet
216
568000
3000
gələcək nəsillərə
09:46
to keep it safe
217
571000
2000
borcluyuq, onları qorumalı və
09:48
and to pass it along.
218
573000
2000
irəliyə ötürməliyik.
09:50
Thank you.
219
575000
2000
Sağ olun.
09:52
(Applause)
220
577000
2000
(Alqışlar)
09:54
Thank you.
221
579000
2000
Sağ olun.
09:56
Thank you.
222
581000
2000
Sağ olun.
09:58
Thank you.
223
583000
11000
Sağ olun.
10:09
Well, I'm staying here because
224
594000
4000
Mən hələ də burada dayanmışam
10:13
we wanted to demonstrate to you
225
598000
3000
çünki istəyirik sizə
10:16
the power of this technology
226
601000
3000
texnologiyanın gücünü göstərək, beləliklə,
10:19
and so, while I've been speaking,
227
604000
3000
danışdığım müddət ərzində
10:22
you have been scanned.
228
607000
3000
siz skan olunurdunuz.
10:25
(Laughter)
229
610000
3000
(Gülüş)
10:29
The two wizards that I have
230
614000
3000
Pərdə arxasında
10:32
that are behind the curtain
231
617000
2000
olan iki sehirbazım
10:34
will help me bring
232
619000
3000
nəticələri ekrana gətirmək üçün
10:37
the results on the screen.
233
622000
5000
mənə kömək edəcəklər.
10:45
(Applause)
234
630000
7000
(Alqışlar)
10:52
This is all in 3D and of course
235
637000
3000
Bütün bunlar 3D-dədir və əlbəttə ki,
10:55
you can fly through the cloud of points.
236
640000
3000
siz nöqtə buludları arasında uça bilərsiniz.
10:58
You can look at it from on top,
237
643000
2000
Buraya yuxarıdan,
11:00
from the ceiling.
238
645000
2000
tavandan baxa bilərsiniz.
11:02
You can look from different vantage points,
239
647000
2000
Müxtəlif mümkün bucaqlardan baxa bilərsiniz,
11:04
but I'm going to ask Doug to zoom in
240
649000
3000
amma Dougdan xahiş edəcəm ki,
11:07
on an individual in the crowd,
241
652000
3000
sadəcə əldə etdiyimiz dəqiqliyi ölçmək üçün
11:10
just to show the amount of detail
242
655000
3000
görüntünü burada toplananlardan
11:13
that we can create.
243
658000
3000
birinin üzərinə yaxınlaşdırsın.
11:19
So you have been digitally preserved
244
664000
3000
Beləliklə, siz bir neçə dəqiqə ərzində
11:22
in about four minutes.
245
667000
2000
rəqəmsal qorunmada oldunuz.
11:24
(Laughter)
246
669000
2000
(Gülüş)
11:26
I'd like to thank the wizards here.
247
671000
4000
Burada olan sehrbazlarıma təşəkkür etmək istəyirəm.
11:30
We were very lucky to have
248
675000
3000
Bu işdə bizə kömək etmək üçün iki həmkarımızın
11:33
two of our partners participate in this:
249
678000
4000
burada olmasına çox şadıq:

11:42
I'd like to also thank personally
252
