Good morning!
0
1295
1626
Bonan tagon!
00:15
Are you awake?
1
3340
2549
Ĉu vi estas maldormaj?
00:18
They took my name tag,
but I wanted to ask you,
2
6679
2304
Oni forprenis mian nometikedon,
sed jen demando por vi:
00:21
did anyone here write their name
on the tag in Arabic?
3
9183
2590
Ĉu iu, ĉi tie, skribis sian nomon
en la araba?
00:23
Anyone! No one?
All right, no problem.
4
11900
5394
Ĉu iu? Neniu?
Bone, ne gravas.
00:29
Once upon a time, not long ago,
5
17529
3963
Iam, antaŭ nelonge,
00:33
I was sitting in a restaurant with my friend,
ordering food.
6
21632
4382
kune kun amiko, mi volis mendi manĝaĵon
en iu restoracio.
00:38
So I looked at the waiter and said,
7
26477
3520
Al la kelnero mi diris:
00:42
"Do you have a menu (Arabic)?"
8
30087
2872
"Ĉu vi havas menuon?"
uzante la araban vorton.
00:45
He looked at me strangely,
thinking that he misheard.
9
33683
3760
Li rigardis min strange,
kvazaŭ li misaŭdis.
00:49
He said, "Sorry? (English)."
10
37633
2073
Li respondis: "Sorry?"
00:52
I said,
"The menu (Arabic), please."
11
40132
3418
Mi repetis arabe:
"La menuon, mi petas."
00:56
He replied,
"Don't you know what they call it?"
12
44110
3293
Li rebatis:
"Ĉu vi ne scias kiel ĝi nomiĝas?"
00:59
"I do."
13
47714
1294
"Ja scias mi."
01:01
He said, "No! It's called "menu" (English),
or "menu" (French)."
14
49133
3485
Li diris: "Ne! ĝi nomiĝas "menu" (angle),
aŭ "menu" (france)."
01:04
Is the French pronunciation correct?
15
52688
1925
Ĉu bonas mia franca prononco?
01:06
"Come, come, take care of this one!"
said the waiter.
16
54663
2390
"Venu, venu, servu tiun ĉi!"
li fine diris.
01:09
He was disgusted when talking to me,
as if he was saying to himself,
17
57123
4235
Li ŝajnis naŭzita parolante al mi,
kvazaŭ li estis pensanta:
01:13
"If this was the last girl on Earth,
I wouldn't look at her!"
18
61458
3942
"Eĉ se ŝi estus la tutlasta ino sur la Tero,
mi ŝin senhesite ignorus!"
01:17
What's the meaning
of saying "menu" in Arabic?
19
65450
2057
Kion signifas
diri "menuon" en la araba?
01:19
Two words made a Lebanese young man
judge a girl as being backward
20
67578
8005
Tiu vorto igis junan Libanulon
taksi samlandaninon neprogresema
01:28
and ignorant.
21
76323
2027
kaj nescia.
01:30
How could she speak that way?
22
78820
5176
Kiel ŝi povas paroli tiele?
01:36
At that moment, I started thinking.
23
84346
2685
Tiumomente, mi komencis pripensi.
01:39
It made me mad.
24
87059
1048
Tio kolerigis min,
01:40
It definitely hurts!
25
88152
1084
sendube vundis min!
01:41
I'm denied the right to speak
my own language in my own country?
26
89326
3065
Ĉu oni malpermesas min paroli
mian propran lingvon en mia hejmlando?
01:44
Where could this happen?
27
92441
1871
Kie povus okazi tielaĵo?
01:46
How did we get here?
28
94392
3280
Kiel ĝi povis estiĝi?
01:49
Well, while we are here,
there are many people like me,
29
97732
3772
Nu, pri tiu punkto,
estas multaj homoj kiel mi,
01:53
who would reach a stage in their lives,
where they involuntarily give up
30
101674
3408
kiuj dum siaj vivoj atingas fazon,
en kiu ili pretas nevolonte forlasi
01:57
everything
that has happened to them in the past,
31
105132
2288
ĉion, kio devenas de la pasinteco,
01:59
just so they can say that they're modern
32
107420
2139
nur por ke ili povas diri sin modernaj
02:01
and civilized.
33
109699
2141
kaj civilizitaj.
02:03
Should I forget all my culture, thoughts,
34
111920
2825
Ĉu mi devus forgesi mian kulturon, pensojn,
02:06
intellect and all my memories?
35
114835
4605
intelekton kaj ĉiujn memoraĵojn?
02:11
Childhood stories might be the best memories
we have of the war!
36
119690
3305
Niaj infanmemoraĵoj estas eble
la plej bonaj, kiujn ni havas pri la milito!
02:15
Should I forget everything
I learned in Arabic, just to conform?
37
123118
5185
Ĉu mi devus forgesi ĉion,
kion mi lernis en la araba, nur por konformiĝi?
02:20
To be one of them?
38
128423
3165
Por esti unu el ili?
02:23
Where's the logic in that?
39
131878
2144
Ĉu logike?
02:26
Despite all that,
I tried to understand him.
40
134132
3558
Malgraŭ ĉio,
mi strebis kompreni lin.
02:29
I didn't want to judge him
with the same cruelty that he judged me.
41
137780
6166
Mi ne volis juĝi lin tiel kruele,
kiel li juĝis min.
02:35
The Arabic language
doesn't satisfy today's needs.
42
143946
3766
La araba lingvo
ne sufiĉas por la bezonoj hodiaŭaj.
02:39
It's not a language for science,
43
147902
1792
Ne estas lingvo por scienco,
02:41
research,
44
149764
1451
esplorado, ne estas
02:43
a language we're used to in universities,
45
151275
1959
lingvo kutima en universitatoj,
02:45
a language we use in the workplace,
46
153294
2080
lingvo kutima en la laborejo,
02:47
a language we rely on if we were to perform
an advanced research project,
47
155694
6104
lingvo, kiun ni uzus por
esplorprojekto progresema,
02:53
and it definitely isn't a language
we use at the airport.
48
161888
2667
kaj tute ne lingvo
uzita en flughaveno.
02:56
If we did so,
they'd strip us of our clothes.
49
164555
2805
Se ni uzus ĝin tie,
oni tuj pripalpserĉus nin.
03:00
Where can I use it, then?
We could all ask this question!
50
168780
3548
Kie ĝi estas uzebla, tiam?
Jen demando por ni ĉiuj!
03:04
So, you want us to use Arabic.
Where are we to do so?
51
172408
3572
Nu, vi volas, ke ni uzu la araban...
Sed kie do?
03:08
This is one reality.
52
176660
2470
Jen unu realo nia.
03:11
But we have another more important reality
that we ought to think about.
53
179240
5248
Sed estas alia realo, pli grava,
kiun ni devus pripensi.
03:16
Arabic is the mother tongue.
54
184878
2929
La araba estas nia patrolingvo.
03:19
Research says that mastery
of other languages
55
187867
5825
Laŭ esploroj, la estreco de fremdaj lingvoj postulas estrecon de la patrolingvo.
03:25
demands mastery of the mother tongue.
56
193718
3496
Estreco de la patrolingvo estas antaŭkondiĉo
por kreiva esprimeco en aliaj lingvoj.
03:29
Mastery of the mother tongue is a prerequisite
for creative expression in other languages.
57
197679
6665
Kiel?
03:36
How?
58
204514
1305
Ĝibran Ĥalil Ĝibran.
03:38
Gibran Khalil Gibran,
59
206199
1700
Kiam li komencis verkadi,
li uzis la araban.
03:40
when he first started writing,
he used Arabic.
60
208489
3901
Liaj ideoj, lia imagpovo, lia filosofio
03:44
All his ideas, imagination and philosophy
61
212540
6332
devenis tute de tiu knabeto
el la vilaĝo
03:51
were inspired by this little boy
in the village
62
219122
3467
kie li kreskis,
flarante specifajn odorojn,
03:54
where he grew up,
smelling a specific smell,
63
222869
2111
aŭdante specifajn voĉojn,
03:57
hearing a specific voice,
64
225150
1211
kaj pensante specifajn pensojn.
03:58
and thinking a specific thought.
65
226421
1565
Do kiam li komencis verki angle
li jam havis solidan fundamenton.
04:00
So, when he started writing in English,
he had enough baggage.
66
228206
4581
Eĉ angle,
04:04
Even when he wrote in English,
67
232917
2268
kiam oni legas lin angle,
oni retrovas la samajn odorojn,
04:07
when you read his writings in English,
you smell the same smell,
68
235265
3711
la samajn sentojn.
04:11
sense the same feeling.
69
239157
1714
Eblas imagi lin
verkante en la angla,
04:13
You can imagine that that's him
writing in English,
70
241147
3586
tiun saman knabeton
el iu Libana monta vilaĝo.
04:16
the same boy who came from the mountain.
From a village on Mount Lebanon.
71
244813
5264
Jen do ekzemplo neniel pridisputinda.
04:22
So, this is an example
no one can argue with.
72
250730
6361
Due, oni ofte diras,
ke por mortigi nacion,
04:29
Second, it's often said
that if you want to kill a nation,
73
257401
4580
la nura maniero,
04:34
the only way to kill a nation,
74
262060
2781
estas mortigi ĝian lingvon.
04:37
is to kill its language.
75
265006
1459
Tiun fakton disvolvigitaj socioj
tute prikonscias.
04:38
This is a reality
that developed societies are aware of.
76
266875
5120
Germanoj, Francoj, Japanoj, Ĉinoj,
ĉiuj estas konsciaj pri tio.
04:44
The Germans, French, Japanese and Chinese,
all these nations are aware of this.
77
272352
6314
Jen kial ili perleĝe
protektas siajn lingvojn.
04:50
That's why they legislate
to protect their language.
78
278876
3836
Ili faras ilin sakraĵoj.
04:54
They make it sacred.
79
282842
2401
Jen kial ili uzas ilin ĉiumaniere,
kaj multpagas por disvolvigi ilin.
04:57
That's why they use it in production,
they pay a lot of money to develop it.
80
285323
5507
Ĉu ni estas pli astutaj ol ili?
05:03
Do we know better than them?
81
291340
2366
Kompreneble,
05:06
All right,
82
294116
1000
ni ne estas parto de la plej modernaj landoj,
05:07
we aren't from the developed world,
83
295122
1827
tia aŭdaca pensmaniero
ankoraŭ ne trafis nin,
05:08
this advanced thinking
hasn't reached us yet,
84
296949
2218
sed ni devus strebi
samniveliĝi kun ili.
05:11
and we would like to catch up
with the civilized world.
85
299257
2644
Landoj, kiuj antaŭe estis je nia nivelo,
sed firmdecidis disvolviĝi,
05:15
Countries that were once like us,
but decided to strive for development,
86
303181
4043
faras esplorojn,
05:19
do research,
87
307514
1436
kaj sukcesas samniveliĝi,
05:21
and catch up with those countries,
88
309100
1833
landoj kiel Turkio, Malajzio k.a.,
05:22
such as Turkey, Malaysia and others,
89
310994
2779
kunportas siajn lingvojn
dum ili supreniras la progresmonton,
05:25
they carried their language with them
as they were climbing the ladder,
90
313933
3671
kaj protektas ilin kvazaŭ diamantoj,
05:29
protected it like a diamond.
91
317724
3287
kaj vartas ilin.
05:33
They kept it close to them.
92
321131
1509
Ĉar se vi aĉetas aĵon
el Turkio aŭ aliloke
05:34
Because if you get any product
from Turkey or elsewhere
93
322690
4250
kaj la etiketo estas ne en la turka,
05:39
and it's not labeled in Turkish,
94
327030
2076
nacia varo ĝi ne estas.
05:41
then it isn't a local product.
95
329616
2449
Ĝi ne estis farita en la lando mem.
05:44
You wouldn't believe it's a local product.
96
332195
2583
La aĉetinto estas ne plu faranto,
05:47
They'd go back to being consumers,
97
335168
2472
li nur aĉetas, kiel ni,
plejofte.
05:49
clueless consumers, like we are
most of the time.
98
337800
5353
Do por esti novigantoj kaj produktantoj,
ili nepre protektis siajn lingvojn.
05:55
So, in order for them to innovate and produce,
they had to protect their language.
99
343463
5871
Se mi diras: "Libereco, memregadeco,
sendependeco" en la araba,
06:03
If I say, "Freedom, sovereignty,
independence (Arabic),"
100
351187
4334
pri kio mi memorigas vin?
06:08
what does this remind you of?
101
356101
2454
Ĝi neniel eĥas ĉe vi, ĉu?
06:12
It doesn't ring a bell, does it?
102
360625
1616
Ne gravas, kiu diris la vortojn
nek kiel aŭ kial.
06:14
Regardless of the who, how and why.
103
362819
3701
Lingvoj ne utilas nur por konversacii,
ne estas nur elbuŝigitaj vortoj.
06:19
Language isn't just for conversing,
just words coming out of our mouths.
104
367580
6078
Ili korespondas al specifaj periodoj
el niaj vivoj,
06:25
Language represents specific stages
in our lives,
105
373798
4702
kaj al terminaroj
ligitaj al niaj emocioj.
06:30
and terminology
that is linked to our emotions.
106
378690
5033
Kiam oni diras:
"Libereco, memregadeco, sendependeco"
06:35
So when we say,
"Freedom, sovereignty, independence,"
107
383723
2432
ĉiu el vi bildigas ion specifan
en via menso,
06:38
each one of you draws a specific image
in their own mind,
108
386155
3410
specifajn emociojn
06:41
there are specific feelings
109
389778
2596
pri specifa tago
en specifa historiperiodo.
06:44
of a specific day
in a specific historical period.
110
392444
2557
Lingvoj estas ne unu, du
aŭ tri vortoj aŭ literoj kunigitaj.
06:47
Language isn't one, two
or three words or letters put together.
111
395121
3304
Estas interna ideo, kiu rilatas
al nia maniero pensi,
06:50
It's an idea inside
that relates to how we think,
112
398765
2574
kaj vidi la aliajn.
06:53
and how we see each other
and how others see us.
113
401339
5664
Kio estas nia intelekto?
06:59
What is our intellect?
114
407003
1704
Kiel scii, ĉu la alia
ja komprenas vin?
07:00
How do you say
whether this guy understands or not?
115
408977
2522
Se mi dirus: "Freedom, sovereignty,
independence",
07:03
So, if I say, "Freedom, sovereignty,
independence (English),"
116
411639
7729
aŭ se via filo alparolus vin kaj dirus:
07:12
or if your son came up to you and said,
117
420164
1989
"Paĉjo, ĉu vi travivis la periodon,
kiam uziĝis la slogano "Freedom"?
07:14
"Dad, have you lived through the period of
the freedom (English) slogan?"
118
422265
4586
Kion vi sentus?
07:18
How would you feel?
119
426971
1680
Se problemon vi ne vidas,
07:21
If you don't see a problem,
120
429741
3724
mi tuj eliru la scenejon,
ĉar mi parolas vane.
07:25
then I'd better leave,
and stop talking in vain.
121
433665
3479
Esprimoj tiaj memorigas nin pri specifaj ideoj.
07:29
The idea is that these expressions
remind us of a specific thing.
122
437334
5266
Francparolanta amikino mia
edzigis Francon.
07:35
I have a francophone friend

5336
Iam, mi demandis al ŝi, kiel iras ŝian geedziĝon.
07:40
I asked her once how things were going.
124
448946
3217
"Ĉio glatas", diris ŝi,
07:44
She said,
"Everything is fine,
125
452253
1536
"sed iam mi pasigis tutan nokton

asking and trying to translate
126
453921

the meaning of the word

'Bury me?' (English)"
134
482369
2216
Estas nur unu el multaj ekzemploj.
08:17
This is one of the few examples.
135
485085
2448
Ni kune konstatis, ke ŝi ne povas diri
tiun esprimon al sia edzo,
08:19
It made us feel that she's unable to tell
that word to her husband,
136
487623
3149
ĉar ĝi estas nekomprenebla de li,
08:22
since he won't understand,
137
490772
2689
kaj prave;
lia pensmaniero malsamas.
08:25
and he's right not to;
his way of thinking is different.
138
493461
2921
Ŝi ankaŭ rakontis:
"Fajruz ni aŭskultas kune,
08:28
She said to me,
"He listens to Fairuz with me,
139
496862
3314
kaj iun vesperon,
mi provis traduki por li,
08:32
and one night,
I tried to translate for him
140
500446
4415
por ke li sentu tion, kion mi sentas
aŭsukultante al Fajruz".
08:36
so he can feel what I feel when
I listen to Fairuz."
141
504991
3259
La kompatindulino provis francigi:
08:40
The poor woman tried to translate
this for him:
142
508310
2190
"El ili mi etendis la manojn
kaj ŝtelis vin --"
08:42
"From them I extended my hands
and stole you --"
143
510590
4105
(Ridoj)
08:46
(Laughter)
144
514755
1075
Kaj jen la stumbligaĵo:
08:48
And here's the pickle:
145
516000
1405
"Sed vi apartenas al ili,
kaj mi reprenis la manojn kaj lasis vin".
08:49
"And because you belong to them,
I returned my hands and left you."
146
517405
4095
Traduku tion por mi.
08:53
(Laughter)
147
521500
1116
(Ridoj)
08:54
Translate that for me.
148
522765
1315
Traduku tion por mi.
08:56
(Applause)
149
524140
7534
(Aplaŭdoj)
09:03
So, what have we done to protect
the Arabic language?
150
531804
4045
Do, kion ni faris
por protekti la araban?
09:08
We turned this into a concern
of the civil society,
151
536129
3136
Ni faris tiun problemon
socia zorgado,
09:11
and we launched a campaign to preserve
the Arabic language.
152
539495
2704
kaj starigis kampanjon por protekti la araban.
09:14
Even though many people told me,
"Why do you bother?
153
542279
3315
Malgraŭ ke multaj diris:
"Kiucele havigi al vi penon tian?
09:17
Forget about this headache
and go have fun."
154
545644
3033
Forgesu pri tio kaj amuziĝu".
09:20
No problem!
155
548717
1537
Nenia problemo!
09:22
The campaign to preserve Arabic
launched a slogan that says,
156
550434
3093
La kampanjo por protekti la araban
uzis sloganon, kiu diris:
09:25
"I talk to you from the East,
but you reply from the West."
157
553527
2833
"Mi alparolas vin oriente,
sed vi respondas okcidente".
09:28
We didn't say,
"No! We do not accept this or that."
158
556620
7308
Ni ne diris:
"Ne! Ni rifuzas tion aŭ tion ĉi".
09:36
We didn't adopt this style because
that way, we wouldn't be understood.
159
564188
4865
Ni elektis alian stilon,
por ke oni komprenu nin.
09:41
And when someone talks to me that way,
I hate the Arabic language.
160
569203
3444
Kaj kiam oni parolas al mi tiel,
mi malŝatas la araban.
09:44
We say--
161
572947
1332
Ni diras --
09:46
(Applause)
162
574359
2822
(Aplaŭdoj)
09:49
We want to change our reality,
163
577271
2382
Ni volas ŝanĝi nian realon,
09:51
and be convinced in a way that reflects
our dreams, aspirations and day-to-day life.
164
579703
4682
kaj konvinki per maniero konforma
al niaj revoj, niaj aspiroj kaj nia ĉiutaga vivo.
09:56
In a way that dresses like us
and thinks like we do.
165
584655
5295
Per maniero, kiu similas al ni
kaj pensas kiel ni.
10:01
So, "I talk to you from the East,
but you reply from the West"
166
589950
2873
Tiukiale, "Mi alparolas vin oriente,
sed vi respondas okcidente"
10:04
has hit the spot.
167
592823
1653
estis ja trafe.
10:06
Something very easy,
yet creative and persuasive.
168
594476
3693
Io plej facila,
tamen kreiva kaj persvadiva.
10:10
After that,
we launched another campaign
169
598579
3098
Poste,
ni starigis alian kampanjon
10:14
with scenes of letters on the ground.
170
602277
3408
per leteroj sternitaj surteren.
10:17
You've seen an example of it outside,
171
605795
2309
Vi vidas ekzemplon ekstere,
10:20
a scene of a letter surrounded
by black and yellow tape
172
608284
4382
iun leteron kadritan
de nigra kaj flava glubendo,
10:24
with "Don't kill your language!"
written on it.
173
612666
2842
kiu diras: "Ne mortigu vian lingvon!"
10:27
Why?
Seriously, don't kill your language.
174
615508
3614
Kial? Serioze, ne mortigu vian lingvon.
10:31
We really shouldn't kill our language.
175
619212
2914
Ni devus ja ne mortigi nian lingvon.
10:34
If we were to kill the language,
we'd have to find an identity.
176
622266
5038
Se ni mortigus ĝin,
neprus trovi identecon.
10:39
We'd have to find an existence.
177
627424
1889
Neprus trovi ekzistadon.
10:41
We'd go back to the beginning.
178
629383
2315
Ni devus reveni al la komenco.
10:43
This is beyond just missing our chance
of being modern and civilized.
179
631768
6492
Tio transas nur maltrafi nian ŝancon
esti modernaj kaj civilizitaj.
10:51
After that we released photos
of guys and girls wearing the Arabic letter.
180
639260
5940
Poste, ni publikigis fotojn
de gejunuloj portantaj arabajn literojn.
10:57
Photos of "cool" guys and girls.
181
645620
2513
Fotoj de "cool" genujuloj.
11:00
We are very cool!
182
648263
2161
Ja "cool" ni estas!
11:02
And to whoever might say,
"Ha! You used an English word!"
183
650904
4294
Kaj al ĉiuj, kiuj diros:
"Ha! Vi ĵus uzis anglan vorton!"
11:07
I say,
"No! I adopt the word 'cool.'"
184
655278
3792
Mi respondos,
"Ne! Mi alproprigas al mi la vorton 'cool'".
11:11
Let them object however they want,
but give me a word that's nicer
185
659120
3745
Obĵetu kion ajn vi volas,
sed donu al mi vorton pli bonan,
11:14
and matches the reality better.
186
662895
2636
kiu pli bone rilatas al la mondo.
11:17
I will keep on saying "Internet"
187
665591
1974
Mi ne ĉesos diri "Internet"
11:19
I wouldn't say:
"I'm going to the world wide web"
188
667565
2824
Mi ne diros:
"Mi iras en la Tut-Tera Teksaĵo"
11:22
(Laughs)
189
670399
1776
(Ridoj)
11:24
Because it doesn't fit!
We shouldn't kid ourselves.
190
672175
3271
Ne rilatas al ni!
Ni ne mensogu al ni mem.
11:27
But to reach this point,
we all have to be convinced
191
675686
3669
Sed por atingi tiun punkton,
ni devas esti konvinkitaj,
11:31
that we shouldn't allow anyone
who is bigger
192
679885
2135
ke ni ne permesu
al iu pli granda, aŭ al iu
11:34
or thinks they have any authority over us
when it comes to language,
193
682020
3336
kiu pensas rajti estri nin
lingvo-rilate,
11:37
to control us or make us think and feel
what they want.
194
685356
5459
kontroli nin, aŭ igi nin pensi kaj senti
kion ajn li volas.
11:43
Creativity is the idea.
195
691685
3758
Kreivo estas neceso.
11:47
So, if we can't reach space
or build a rocket and so on,
196
695653
2560
Se ni ne povas atingi la foran spacon
aŭ fari raketon, ktp,
11:50
we can be creative.
197
698213
1900
ni estu kreivaj.
11:52
At this moment, every one of you
is a creative project.
198
700113
3767
Tiun momenton mem, ĉiu el vi
estas kreiva projekto.
11:55
Creativity in your mother tongue
is the path.
199
703950
2518
La kreivo de via patrolingvo
estas la vojo.
11:58
Let's start from this moment.
200
706798
3446
Ni eku je tiu momento.
12:02
Let's write a novel
or produce a short film.
201
710534
2002
Ni verku romanon
aŭ faru mallongan kinaĵon.
12:04
A single novel could make us global again.
202
712596
3278
Simpla romano tutmondigus nin denove.
12:07
It could bring the Arabic language
back to being number one.
203
715934
3766
Ĝi denove unuarangigus la araban.
12:12
So, it's not true that there's no solution;
there is a solution!
204
720380
3851
Ne pravas, ke ne estas solvo;
solvo estas ja!
12:16
But we have to know that, and be convinced
that a solution exists,
205
724231
3999
Sed tion ni devas scii, konvinkiĝi ke solvo ekzistas,
12:20
that we have a duty
to be part of that solution.
206
728230
2999
ke estas nia devo
esti parto de tiu solvo.
12:23
In conclusion, what can you do today?
207
731929
2787
Konklude, kion vi povas fari hodiaŭ?
12:26
Now, tweets, who's tweeting?
208
734836
3164
Nu, pepadoj... Kiu ĉi tie pepadas?
12:32
Please, I beg of you,
even though my time has finished,
209
740060
5275
Mi petas... petegas vin,
kvankam mia tempo estas preskaŭ finita,
12:37
either Arabic, English, French
or Chinese.
210
745430
5057
en la araba, la angla, la franca aŭ la ĉina.
12:42
But don't write Arabic
with Latin characters mixed with numbers!
211
750577
5581
Sed ne skribu en la araba
per latinaj literoj miksitaj kun numeroj!
12:48
(Applause)
212
756298
4060
(Aplaŭdoj)
12:52
It's a disaster!
That's not a language.
213
760408
3148
Kia katastrofo!
Tio estas ne lingvo.
12:55
You'd be entering a virtual world
with a virtual language.
214
763866
3546
Estas la virtuala lingvo
de virtuala mondo.
12:59
It's not easy to come back
from such a place and rise.
215
767562
2682
Ne facilas reveni
el tia mondo kaj disvolviĝi.
13:02
That's the first thing we can do.
216
770724
2082
Jen la unua afero farebla.
13:04
Second, there are many other things
that we can do.
217
772896
2603
Due, multaj aliaj faroj
entrepreneblas.
13:07
We're not here today to convince
each other.
218
775499
2405
Ni estas ĉi tie hodiaŭ
ne por konvinki unujn la aliajn.
13:09
We're here to bring attention
to the necessity of preserving this language.
219
777904
3534
Ni volas priatentigi la neceson
protekti nian lingvon.
13:13
Now I will tell you a secret.
220
781438
2875
Nun, jen sekreto.
13:17
A baby first identifies its father
221
785303
5187
Bebo rekonas sian patron unue
13:22
through language.
222
790490
2067
per lia lingvo.
13:24
When my daughter is born, I'll tell her,
"This is your father, honey (Arabic)."
223
792557
5159
Kiam naskiĝos mian filinon, mi diros al ŝi:
"Jen via patro, kara".
13:29
I wouldn't say,
"This is your dad, honey (English)."
224
797796
4528
Mi ne diros:
"This is your dad, honey".
13:34
And in the supermarket,
I promise my daughter Noor,
225
802585
3185
Ĉe la supermerkato,
mi promesis al mia filino Noor,
13:37
that if she says to me,
"Thanks (Arabic),"
226
805770
2216
ke se iam ŝi diras:
"Dankon" en la araba,
13:40
I won't say, "Dis, 'Merci, Maman,'"
and hope no one has heard her.
227
808086
4667
Mi ne respondos: "Dis: 'Merci, Maman'",
esperante, ke neniu aŭdis ŝin.
13:44
(Applause)
228
812813
3087
(Aplaŭdoj)
13:55
Let's get rid of this cultural cringe.
229
823980
4897
Ni forigu tiun kulturan malestimon.
