ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Andrew Bird - Musician
Andrew Bird is a virtual one-man band -- he’s a singer and songwriter and plays the violin, guitar, glockenspiel.

Why you should listen

Andrew Bird began to play the violin at age 4, learning to play Bach and Mozart by ear as if they were folk tunes. Though raised on classical repertoire, he still has little use for the written note and spins melody and words out of his cumulative experience, mixing elements of many genres without confining itself to any one in particular. While his early work with his band Bowl of Fire was influenced by pre-war jazz and showcased his violin skills, his sound began to evolve in an indie-folk direction after he went solo. But indie-folk -- or any single genre -- is just a backbone for a swirl of loops, samples and gorgeously rich instrumentation underpinning lyrics of mysterious import.

In 2002, Bird flew his Chicago coop for rural Illinois to live the rural life (yes, he had chickens) and set up his studio in a converted barn. This new environment inspired his 2003 solo album, Weather Systems, which has a surreal quality and poetic, thought-provoking lyrics. His sound progressed further with his 2005 album, The Mysterious Production of Eggs, which used multitrack recorders and loop pedals to layer samples, and featured more guitar, whistling and glockenspiel. Bird released his fifth solo album, Noble Beast, in early 2009 to acclaim; he's now working on a film score and an art installation.

Glazbeni inovator Andrew Bird spaja zajedno svoj zaštitni znak, tehniku violine s ksilofonom, vokalima i sofisticiranim elektroničkim petljama. Dodajte tome njegovu natprirodnu sposobnost da zviždi bilošto i on postaje skladni jednočlani orkestar.

08:01
kindljubazan of bridgesmostovi the gappraznina to the emotionalemotivan.
68
466000
3000
na neki način premoštava jaz do emocionalnog.
08:04
Because althoughiako I've used scientificznanstvena termsUvjeti
69
469000
3000
Jer premda sam koristio znanstvene termine
08:07
in songsPjesme,
70
472000
2000
u pjesmama,
08:09
it's very difficulttežak sometimesponekad to make them lyricallirski.
71
474000
3000
jako je teško ponekad učiniti ih lirskima.
08:12
And there's some things
72
477000
2000
I postoje neke stvari
08:14
you just don't need to have in songsPjesme.
73
479000
3000
koje jednostavno ne trebate u pjesmama.
08:18
So I'm tryingtežak to bridgemost this gappraznina
74
483000

Tako nastojim premostiti taj jaz
08:20
betweenizmeđu this ideaideja and this melodymelodija.
75
485000
3000
između te ideje i te melodije.
08:23
And so, I don't know if you've ever had this,
76
488000
3000
I tako, ne znam jeste li ikada imali ovo,
08:26
but when I closeblizu my eyesoči sometimesponekad

3000
ali kada zatvorim oči ponekad
08:29

78
494000

i pokušam spavati,
08:31
I can't stop thinkingmišljenje about my ownvlastiti eyesoči.
79
496000
3000
ne mogu prestati misliti o svojim očima.
08:34
And it's like your eyesoči

08:38
That's what it feelsosjeća like to me.
82
503000
2000
To je ono kako se osjećam.
08:40
It's not pleasantprijatan.
83
505000
2000
Nije ugodno.
08:42
I'm sorry if I put that ideaideja in your headglava.
84

Žao mi je ako sam vam stavio tu ideju u glavu.
08:44
(LaughterSmijeh)
85

08:46
It's impossiblenemoguće, of coursenaravno, for your eyesoči to see themselvesse,
86

Nemoguće je, naravno, da vaše oči vide same sebe,
08:48
but they seemčiniti se to be tryingtežak.
87

08:51
So that's gettinguzimajući a little more closerbliže to a personalosobni experienceiskustvo.

to je jednostavno nemoguće;
08:59
That's the thing.
