Let's define밝히다 listening청취
6
15000
2000
00:32
as making만들기 meaning의미 from sound소리.
7
17000
2000
00:34
It's a mental지적인 process방법,
8
19000
2000
00:36
and it's a process방법 of extraction추출.
9
21000
2000
00:38
We use some pretty예쁜 cool시원한 techniques기법 to do this.
10
23000
2000
00:40
One of them is pattern무늬 recognition인식.
11
25000
2000
00:42
(Crowd군중 Noise소음) So in a cocktail칵테일 party파티 like this,
12
27000
3000
00:45
if I say, "David데이비드, Sara새라, pay지불 attention주의,"
13
30000
2000
00:47
some of you just sat앉은 up.
14

00:49
We recognize인정하다 patterns패턴들
15
34000
2000
00:51
to distinguish드러내다 noise소음 from signal신호,
16
36000

00:53
and especially특히 our name이름.
17
38000
2000
00:55
Differencing차이점 is another다른 technique기술 we use.
18
40000
2000
00:57
If I left this pink담홍색 noise소음 on for more than a couple of minutes의사록,
19
42000
3000
01:00
you would literally말 그대로 cease중지 to hear듣다 it.
20
45000
2000
01:02
We listen to differences
21
47000
2000
01:04
we discount할인 sounds소리 that remain남아있는 the same같은.
22
49000
3000
01:07
And then there is a whole완전한 range범위 of filters필터.
23
52000
3000
01:10
These filters필터 take us from all sound소리
24
55000
3000
01:13
down to what we pay지불 attention주의 to.
25
58000
2000
01:15
Most가장 people are entirely전적으로 unconscious무의식
26
60000
2000
01:17
of these filters필터.
27
62000
2000
01:19
But they actually사실은 create몹시 떠들어 대다 our reality현실 in a way,
28
64000
3000
01:22
because they tell us what we're paying지불하는 attention주의 to right now.
29
67000
3000
01:25
Give you one example of that:
30
70000
2000
01:27
Intention의향 is very important중대한 in sound소리, in listening청취.
31
72000
3000
01:30
When I married기혼 my wife아내,
32
75000

01:32
I promised약속 한 her that I would listen to her every...마다 day
33

01:44
But that's not all.
38
89000
2000
01:46
Sound소리 places장소들 us in space공간 and in time.
39
91000
3000
01:49
If you close닫기 your eyes right now in this room,
40

3000

01:58
And you're aware알고있는 of how many많은 people are around you
44
103000
2000
02:00
because of the micro-noises마이크로 소음 you're receiving전수.
45
105000
3000
02:03
And sound소리 places장소들 us in time as well,
46
108000
3000
02:06
because sound소리 always has
47
111000
2000
02:08
time embedded내장 된 in it.
48
113000
2000
02:10
In fact, I would suggest제안하다 that our listening청취 is the main본관 way
49
115000
2000
02:12
that we experience경험 the flow흐름 of time
50
117000
2000
02:14
from past과거 to future미래.
51
119000
2000
02:16
So, "Sonority울려 퍼짐 is time and meaning의미" -- a great quote인용문.
52
121000
2000
02:18
I said at the beginning처음, we're losing지는 our listening청취.
53
123000
3000
02:21
Why did I say that?
54
126000
2000
02:23
Well there are a lot of reasons원인 for this.
55
128000
2000
02:25
First of all, we invented발명 된 ways of recording녹음 --
56
130000
2000
02:27
first writing쓰기, then audio오디오 recording녹음
57
132000
2000
02:29
and now video비디오 recording녹음 as well.

02:46
it's tiring지루한 to listen.
65
151000
2000
02:48
Many많은 people take refuge피난 in headphones헤드폰,
