ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Pam Warhurst - Cofounder, Incredible Edible
Pam Warhurst cofounded Incredible Edible, an initiative in Todmorden, England dedicated to growing food locally by planting on unused land throughout the community.

Why you should listen

Pam Warhurst is the Chair of the Board of the Forestry Commission, which advises on and implements forestry policy in Great Britain. She also cofounded Incredible Edible Todmorden, a local food partnership that encourages community engagement through local growing. Incredible Edible started small, with the planting of a few community herb gardens in Todmorden, and today has spin-offs in the U.S. and Japan. The community has started projects like Every Egg Matters, which educates people on keeping chickens and encourages them to sell eggs to neighbors, and uses a 'Chicken Map' to connect consumers and farmers. Incredible Edible Todmorden empowers ordinary people to take control of their communities through active civic engagement.

The will to live life differently can start
0
586
2838
00:19
in some of the most unusual places.
1
3424
3446
em alguns dos mais incomuns lugares.
00:22
This is where I come from, Todmorden.
2
6870
1946
00:24
It's a market town in the north of England,
3
8816
2020
00:26
15,000 people, between Leeds and Manchester,
4
10836
2671
15.000 pessoas, entre Leeds e Manchester,
00:29
fairly normal market town.
5
13507
2073
um povoado bem normal.
00:31
It used to look like this,
6
15580
2170
Ele costumava ser assim,
00:33
and now it's more like this,
7
17750
2748
e agora está assim,
00:36
with fruit and veg and herbs sprouting up all over the place.
8
20498
3725
00:40
We call it propaganda gardening. (Laughter)
9
24223
4717
Chamamos de jardinagem propaganda. (Risos)
00:44
Corner row railway, station car park,
10
28940
3015
No canto da linha ferroviária, nos estacionamentos,
00:47
front of a health center, people's front gardens,
11
31955
3752
00:51
and even in front of the police station. (Laughter)
12
35707
3537
e mesmo em frente à delegacia. (Risos)
00:55
We've got edible canal towpaths,
13
39244
2990
Temos margens de canais comestíveis,
00:58
and we've got sprouting cemeteries.
14
42234
2166
e cemitérios que germinam.
01:00
The soil is extremely good. (Laughter)
15
44400
6501
O solo é extremamente bom. (Risos)
01:06
We've even invented a new form of tourism.
16
50901
2243
Inventamos uma nova forma de turismo.
01:09
It's called vegetable tourism, and believe it or not,
17
53144
3607
01:12
people come from all over the world to poke around in our raised beds,
18
56751
3924
as pessoas vêm de todas as partes do mundo para olhar nossos canteiros,
01:16
even when there's not much growing. (Laughter)
19
60675
2984
mesmo quando não há nada crescendo. (Risos)
01:19
But it starts a conversation. (Laughter)
20
63659
3630
Mas assim começa uma conversa. (Risos)
01:23
And, you know, we're not doing it because we're bored. (Laughter)
21
67289
4008
Sabe, não fazemos isso por puro tédio. (Risos)
01:27
We're doing it because we want to start a revolution.
22
71297
4817
Fazemos porque queremos começar uma revolução.
01:32
We tried to answer this simple question:
23
76114
1318
Tentamos responder uma pergunta simples:
01:33
Can you find a unifying language that cuts across age
24
77432
2890
01:36
and income and culture that will help people themselves
25
80322
4217
a renda e a cultura, e que ajude as pessoas a acharem
01:40
find a new way of living,
26
84539
1661
uma nova forma de viver,
01:42
see spaces around them differently,
27
86200
2125
01:44
think about the resources they use differently,
28
88325
2603
01:46
interact differently?
29
90928
1993
a interagir de outra maneira?
01:48
Can we find that language?
30
92921
2369
Podemos achar tal linguagem?
01:51
And then, can we replicate those actions?
31
95290
3967
E depois, podemos replicar tais ações?
01:55
And the answer would appear to be yes,
32
99257
2758
A resposta parece ser sim,
01:57
and the language would appear to be food.
33
102015
3403
e a linguagem parece ser a comida.
02:01
So, three and a half years ago, a few of us
34
105418
2019
Três anos e meio atrás, alguns de nós
02:03
sat around a kitchen table and
35
107437
1619
sentamos na mesa da cozinha
02:04
we just invented the whole thing. (Laughter)
36
109056
3368
e inventamos tudo. (Risos)
02:08
(Applause)
37
112424
3237
(Aplausos)
02:11
We came up with a really simple game plan that we put to a public meeting.
38
115661
2591
02:14
We did not consult. We did not write a report.
39
118252
2313
Não pedimos conselhos. Não escrevemos relatórios.
02:16
Enough of all that. (Laughter)
40
120565
2575
Chega de tudo isso. (Risos)
02:19
And we said to that public meeting in Todmorden,
41
123140
3018
E dissemos na reunião em Todmorden,
02:22
look, let's imagine that our town
42
126158
2946
vejam, imaginem que nossa cidade
02:25
is focused around three plates:
43
129104
1756
está baseada em três pratos:
02:26
a community plate, the way we live our everyday lives;
44
130860
2224
um comunitário, a forma como vivemos o dia a dia;
02:28
a learning plate, what we teach our kids in school
45
133084
3048
02:32
and what new skills we share amongst ourselves;
46
136132
2761
e quais habilidades novas dividimos entre nós;
02:34
and business, what we do with the pound in our pocket
47
138893
3119
02:37
and which businesses we choose to support.
48
142012
1821
e que tipo de negócio escolhemos apoiar.
02:39
Now, let's imagine those plates agitated
49
143833
2807
Agora, vamos imaginar esses pratos sendo agitados
02:42
with community actions around food.
50
146640
2640
com ações comunitárias em torno da comida.
02:45
If we start one of those community plates spinning,
51
149280
2241
Se fazemos girar um desses pratos comunitários,
02:47
that's really great, that really starts to empower people,
52
151521
3384
02:50
but if we can then spin that community plate
53
154905
2087
mas se pudermos girar esse prato comunitário
02:52
with the learning plate, and then spin it with the business plate,
54
156992
2896
02:55
we've got a real show there, we've got some action theater.
55
159888
3736
02:59
We're starting to build resilience ourselves.
56
163624
3345
Estamos começando a construir, nós mesmos, a resiliência.
03:02
We're starting to reinvent community ourselves,
57
166969
3391
Estamos começando a reinventar a comunidade,
03:06
and we've done it all without a flipping strategy document.
58
170360
3467
e fizemos isso sem nenhum documento estratégico.
03:09
(Applause)
59
173827
5311
(Aplausos)
03:15
And here's the thing as well.
60
179138
2792
E tem mais uma coisa.
03:17
We've not asked anybody's permission to do this,
61
181930
2416
03:20
we're just doing it. (Laughter)
62
184346
2293
estamos fazendo e pronto. (Risos)
03:22
And we are certainly not waiting for that check
63
186639
1761
Também não estamos esperando que aquele cheque
03:24
to drop through the letterbox before we start,
64
188400
2738
03:27
and most importantly of all, we are not daunted
65
191138
2332
03:29
by the sophisticated arguments that say,
66
193470
1852
com os argumentos sofisticados que dizem:
03:31
"These small actions are meaningless in the face of tomorrow's problems,"
67
195322
3896
"Essas pequenas ações são insignificantes diante dos problemas do futuro",
03:35
because I have seen the power of small actions,
68
199218
3668
porque eu vi o poder das pequenas ações,
03:38
and it is awesome.
69
202886
2071
e é incrível.
03:40
So, back to the public meeting. (Laughter)
70
204957
3113
Então, de volta à reunião pública. (Risos)
03:43
We put that proposition to the meeting, two seconds,
71
208070
2889
Apresentamos aquela proposição na reunião, 2 segundos,
03:46
and then the room exploded.
72
210959
1708
e depois a sala explodiu.
03:48
I have never, ever experienced anything like that in my life.
73
212667
3888
03:52
And it's been the same in every single room, in every town
74
216555
3382
03:55
that we've ever told our story.
75
219937
1555
na qual contamos nossa história.
03:57
People are ready and respond to the story of food.
76
221492
4344
04:01
They want positive actions they can engage in,
77
225836
2257
04:03
and in their bones, they know it's time
78
228093
2599
e, bem no fundo, sabem que chegou a hora
04:06
to take personal responsibility
79
230692
1889
de assumir a responsabilidade
04:08
and invest in more kindness to each other
80
232581
2571
04:11
and to the environment.
81
235152
2923
e com o meio ambiente.
04:13
And since we had that meeting three and a half years ago,
82
238075
3314
04:17
it's been a heck of a roller coaster.
83
241389
3250
tem sido uma montanha-russa e tanto.
04:20
We started with a seed swap, really simple stuff,
84
244639
2896
04:23
and then we took an area of land, a strip on the side
85
247535
2249
04:25
of our main road, which was a dog toilet, basically,
86
249784
2502
04:28
and we turned it into a really lovely herb garden.
87
252286
3354
04:31
We took the corner of the car park in the station
88
255640
2286
04:33
that you saw, and we made vegetable beds
89
257926
1735
04:35
for everybody to share and pick from themselves.
90
259661
3524
para que todos compartilhem e colham sozinhos.
04:39
We went to the doctors. We've just had
91
263185
1309
Fomos aos médicos. Acabamos de ganhar
04:40
a 6-million-pound health center built in Todmorden,
92
264494
2905
04:43
and for some reason that I cannot comprehend,
93
267399
2688
04:45
it has been surrounded by prickly plants. (Laughter)
94
270087
3793
ele foi rodeado por plantas espinhentas. (Risos)
04:49
So we went to the doctors, said, "Would you mind us taking them up?"
95
273880
3089
04:52
They said, "Absolutely fine, provided you get planning permission
96
276969
2354
04:55
and you do it in Latin and you do it in triplicate,"
97
279323
1922
em latim e em três vias,"
04:57
so we did — (Laughter) — and now there are fruit trees
98
281245
2790
então fizemos - (Risos) - agora, há arvores frutíferas
04:59
and bushes and herbs and vegetables
99
284035
3295
e arbustos, ervas, vegetais
05:03
around that doctor's surgery.
100
287330
3230
em torno daquele centro médico.
05:06
And there's been lots of other examples, like the corn
101
290560
2276
Há muitos outros exemplos, como o milho
05:08
that was in front of the police station,
102
292836
1856
em frente à delegacia,
05:10
and the old people's home that we've planted it with food
103
294692
1817
e o asilo, onde plantamos comida
05:12
that they can pick and grow.
104
296509
1972
que eles podem colher e cultivar.
05:14
But it isn't just about growing,
105
298481
1710
Mas não se trata apenas de cultivar,
05:16
because we all are part of this jigsaw.
106
300191
2545
porque somos parte desse quebra-cabeça.
05:18
It's about taking those artistic people in your community
107
302736
2874
05:21
and doing some fabulous designs in those raised beds
108
305610
2233
e fazer alguns desenhos fabulosos nos canteiros
05:23
to explain to people what's growing there,
109
307843
2071
05:25
because there's so many people that don't really recognize
110
309914
2216
05:28
a vegetable unless it's in a bit of plastic
111
312130
1888
05:29
with a bit of an instruction packet on the top. (Laughter)
112
314018
2072
com uma instrução em cima do pacote. (Risos)
05:31
So we have some people who designed these things,
113
316090
2896
Então, temos umas pessoas que desenharam isso:
05:34
"If it looks like this, please don't pick it, but if it looks like this,
114
318986
2017
"Se está assim, não pegue, mas, se está assim,
05:36
help yourself."
115
321003
1977
fique à vontade."
05:38
This is about sharing and investing in kindness.
116
322980
2869
05:41
And for those people that don't want to do either
117
325849
1857
05:43
of those things, maybe they can cook,
118
327706
1999
talvez possam cozinhar.
05:45
so we pick them seasonally and then we go on the street,
119
329705
2873
05:48
or in the pub, or in the church,
120
332578
2233
ou ao bar, ou à igreja,
05:50
or wherever people are living their lives.
121
334811
1632
onde quer que as pessoas estejam vivendo.
05:52
This is about us going to the people and saying,
122
336443
2542
Vamos às pessoas e dizemos:
05:54
"We are all part of the local food jigsaw,
123
338985
2409
"Somos todos partes do quebra-cabeça da comida local,
05:57
we are all part of a solution."
124
341394
2655
somos todos partes da solução."
05:59
And then, because we know we've got vegetable tourists
125
344049
2216
06:02
and we love them to bits and they're absolutely fantastic,
126
346265
2708
06:04
we thought, what could we do to give them an even better experience?
127
348973
2576
06:07
So we invented, without asking, of course,
128
351549
2404
Então inventamos, sem perguntar, é claro,
06:09
the Incredible Edible Green Route.
129
353953
2106
a incrível Rota Verde Comestível.
06:11
And this is a route of exhibition gardens,
130
356059
2725
06:14
and edible towpaths, and bee-friendly sites, and the story
131
358784
4711
caminhos comestíveis e lugares amigáveis para abelhas, e a história
06:19
of pollinators, and it's a route that we designed
132
363495
2868
dos polinizadores, é uma rota que concebemos
06:22
that takes people through the whole of our town,
133
366363
2606
que leva as pessoas por toda nossa cidade,
06:24
past our cafes and our small shops, through our market,
134
368969
3219
passa pelos cafés e mercearias, mercados,
06:28
not just to and fro from the supermarket,
135
372188
3413
06:31
and we're hoping that, in changing people's footfall
136
375601
2298
06:33
around our town, we're also changing their behavior.
137
377899
2855
06:36
And then there's the second plate, the learning plate.
138
380754
3720
Daí, tem o segundo prato, o prato do aprendizado.
06:40
Well, we're in partnership with a high school.
139
384474
1580
Bem, fizemos uma parceria com uma escola.
06:41
We've created a company. We are designing and building
140
386054
3073
Criamos uma empresa. Estamos projetando e construindo
06:45
an aquaponics unit in some land that was spare
141
389127
2048
06:47
at the back of the high school, like you do,
142
391175
1907
nos fundos da escola,
06:48
and now we're going to be growing fish and vegetables
143
393082
2193
e agora vamos criar peixes e cultivar verduras
06:51
in an orchard with bees,
144
395275
2549
num pomar com abelhas,
06:53
and the kids are helping us build that,
145
397824
2258
06:55
and the kids are on the board, and because the community
146
400082
2813
estão no conselho, e, como a comunidade
06:58
was really keen on working with the high school,
147
402895
1532
07:00
the high school is now teaching agriculture,
148
404427
3368
a escola está agora ensinando agricultura,
07:03
and because it's teaching agriculture, we started to think,
149
407795
3116
e, por isso, começamos a pensar
07:06
how could we then get those kids that never had a qualification
150
410911
2783
07:09
before in their lives but are really excited about growing,
151
413694
2551
07:12
how can we give them some more experience?
152
416245
1704
07:13
So we got some land that was donated
153
417949
1959
Assim, conseguimos uma terra que foi doada
07:15
by a local garden center.
154
419908
1258
por um centro local de jardinagem.
07:17
It was really quite muddy, but in a truly incredible way,
155
421166
3334
07:20
totally voluntary-led, we have turned that
156
424500
2610
07:23
into a market garden training center,
157
427110
2197
07:25
and that is polytunnels and raised beds
158
429307
2964
e aqui estão estufas e canteiros
07:28
and all the things you need to get the soil under your fingers
159
432271
2704
07:30
and think maybe there's a job in this for me in the future.
160
434975
2321
07:33
And because we were doing that, some local academics said,
161
437296
2208
07:35
"You know, we could help design
162
439504
1332
"Sabe, poderíamos ajudar a projetar
07:36
a commercial horticulture course for you.
163
440836
1772
um curso de horticultura comercial pra vocês.
07:38
There's not one that we know of."
164
442608
1395
Não conhecemos nenhum."
07:39
So they're doing that, and we're going to launch it later this year,
165
444003
2644
07:42
and it's all an experiment, and it's all voluntary.
166
446647
2585
é um experimento, e totalmente voluntário.
07:45
And then there's the third plate,
167
449232
1619
E então há o terceiro prato,
07:46
because if you walk through an edible landscape,
168
450851
1818
07:48
and if you're learning new skills, and if you start to get
169
452669
2595
07:51
interested in what's growing seasonally,
170
455264
2048
07:53
you might just want to spend more of your own money
171
457312
1912
07:55
in support of local producers,
172
459224
2080
no apoio aos produtores locais,
07:57
not just veg, but meat and cheese and beer
173
461304
1752
07:58
and whatever else it might be.
174
463056
2079
e qualquer outra coisa.
08:01
But then, we're just a community group, you know.
175
465135
2737
Mas, sabe, somos apenas um grupo comunitário.
08:03
We're just all volunteers. What could we actually do?
176
467872
1958
Todos voluntários. O que poderíamos fazer de fato?
08:05
So we did some really simple things.
177
469830
1750
Fizemos coisas bem simples.
08:07
We fundraised, we got some blackboards,
178
471580
1787
Nós angariamos fundos, conseguimos uns quadros-negros,
08:09
we put "Incredible Edible" on the top,
179
473367
1170
colocamos "Comestível Incrível" em cima,
08:10
we gave it every market trader that was selling locally,
180
474537
2176
demos a todos os comerciantes locais,
08:12
and they scribbled on what they were selling in any one week.
181
476713
2927
e eles escreviam ali o que estavam vendendo naquela semana.
08:15
Really popular. People congregated around it.
182
479640
2456
Muito popular. As pessoas se juntaram em volta.
08:17
Sales were up.
183
482096
1648
As vendas aumentaram.
08:19
And then, we had a chat with the farmers, and we said,
184
483744
2996
08:22
"We're really serious about this,"
185
486740
977
"Estamos levando isso a sério,"
08:23
but they didn't actually believe us, so we thought,
186
487717
2418
08:26
okay, what should we do? I know. If we can create
187
490135
2625
ok, o que faremos? Eu sei. Se pudermos criar
08:28
a campaign around one product and show them
188
492760
2574
08:31
there is local loyalty to that product,
189
495334
2043
08:33
maybe they'll change their mind and see we're serious.
190
497377
2343
08:35
So we launched a campaign -- because it just amuses me --
191
499720
2991
Então lançamos uma campanha -- porque isso me diverte --
08:38
called Every Egg Matters. (Laughter)
192
502711
2073
chamada Todo Ovo Importa. (Risos)
08:40
And what we did was we put people on our egg map.
193
504784
3621
08:44
It's a stylized map of Togmorden.
194
508405
2151
É um mapa estilizado de Togmorden.
08:46
Anybody that's selling their excess eggs
195
510556
1639
08:48
at the garden gate, perfectly legally, to their neighbors,
196
512195
2538
08:50
we've stuck on there. We started with four,
197
514733
2417
nós marcamos aqui. Começamos com quatro,
08:53
and we've now got 64 on, and the result of that was
198
517150
2274
e agora temos 64, e o resultado disso foi
08:55
that people were then going into shops
199
519424
1500
que as pessoas iam aos mercados
08:56
asking for a local Todmorden egg, and the result of that
200
520924
2681
08:59
was, some farmers upped the amount of flocks they got
201
523605
2289
09:01
of free range birds, and then they went on to meat birds,
202
525894
2109
09:03
and although these are really, really small steps,
203
528003
2581
09:06
that increasing local economic confidence
204
530584
4689
essa crescente confiança na economia local
09:11
is starting to play out in a number of ways,
205
535273
2577
está começando a aparecer de diversas formas,
09:13
and we now have farmers doing cheese
206
537850
1302
e agora temos fazendeiros fazendo queijo,
09:15
and they've upped their flocks and rare breed pigs,
207
539152
1789
09:16
they're doing pasties and pies and things
208
540941
1408
eles estão fazendo pastas, tortas e coisas
09:18
that they would have never done before.
209
542349
2373
que nunca tinham feito antes.
09:20
We've got increasing market stalls selling local food,
210
544722
2621
Temos mais tendas vendendo comida local,
09:23
and in a survey that local students did for us, 49 percent
211
547343
4214
09:27
of all food traders in that town said that their bottom line
212
551557
2953
09:30
had increased because of what we were actually doing.
213
554510
2406
por causa do que estavámos fazendo.
09:32
And we're just volunteers and it's only an experiment.
214
556916
3090
09:35
(Laughter)
215
560006
1404
(Risos)
09:37
Now, none of this is rocket science.
216
561410
2410
Agora, nada disso é ciência espacial.
09:39
It certainly is not clever, and it's not original.
217
563820
2879
E certamente não é inteligente, e nada original.
09:42
But it is joined up, and it is inclusive.
218
566699
3807
Mas é uma ação coletiva e inclusiva.
09:46
This is not a movement for those people
219
570506
2123
Não é um movimento para aquelas pessoas
09:48
that are going to sort themselves out anyway.
220
572629
1922
que encontrariam uma solução de qualquer forma.
09:50
This is a movement for everyone.
221
574551
1334
É um movimento para todos.
09:53
We have a motto: If you eat, you're in. (Laughter)
222
577447
3866
Temos um lema: Se você come, está dentro. (Risos)
09:57
(Applause)
223
581313
1915
(Aplausos)
10:03
Across age, across income, across culture.
224
587402
5077
Atravessa idades, renda, cultura.
10:08
It's been really quite a roller coaster experience,
225
592479
3607
10:11
but going back to that first question that we asked,
226
596086
548
mas voltando àquela primeira pergunta que fizemos,
10:14
is it replicable? Yeah. It most certainly is replicable.
227
598559
3259
é replicável? Sim. Com muita certeza é replicável.
10:17
More than 30 towns in England now are spinning
228
601818
2814
10:20
the Incredible Edible plate.
229
604632
2128
o prato Incrível Comestível.
10:22
Whichever way they want to do it, of their own volition,
230
606760
3495
10:26
they're trying to make their own lives differently,
231
610255
2694
eles estão tentando fazer suas vidas diferentes,
10:28
and worldwide, we've got communities across America
232
612949
2748
e mundo afora, temos comunidades por toda a América
10:31
and Japan -- it's incredible, isn't it? I mean,
233
615697
1744
e no Japão -- é incrível, não? Digo,
10:33
America and Japan and New Zealand.
234
617441
2515
America, Japão e Nova Zelândia.
10:35
People after the earthquake in New Zealand visited us
235
619956
2524
10:38
in order to incorporate some of this public spiritedness
236
622480
3051
10:41
around local growing into the heart of Christchurch.
237
625531
4652
do cultivo local no centro de Christchurch.
10:46
And none of this takes more money
238
630183
2847
E nada disso precisa de mais dinheiro,
10:48
and none of this demands a bureaucracy,
239
633030
3127
nem demanda burocracia,
10:52
but it does demand that you think things differently
240
636157
2863
10:54
and you are prepared to bend budgets and work programs
241
639020
3697
10:58
in order to create that supportive framework
242
642717
2128
no sentido de criar aquele arcabouço
11:00
that communities can bounce off.
243
644845
2714
para que as comunidades possam compartilhar.
11:03
And there's some great ideas already in our patch.
244
647559
2916
11:06
Our local authority has decided to make everywhere
245
650475
2784
Nossas autoridades locais decidiram levar a todos os lugares o
11:09
Incredible Edible, and in support of that
246
653259
2662
Comestível Incrível, e em apoio a isso
11:11
have decided to do two things.
247
655921
1485
decidiram duas coisas
11:13
First, they're going to create an asset register of spare land
248
657406
3109
11:16
that they've got, put it in a food bank so that communities
249
660515
2231
11:18
can use that wherever they live,
250
662746
1736
possam usá-las onde quer que vivam,
11:20
and they're going to underpin that with a license.
251
664482
2177
11:22
And then they've said to every single one of their workforce,
252
666659
2381
11:24
if you can, help those communities grow,
253
669040
2497
se vocês puderem, ajudem essas comunidades a crescer,
11:27
and help them to maintain their spaces.
254
671537
2113
e ajudem-nas a manter seus espaços.
11:29
Suddenly, we're seeing actions on the ground
255
673650
2039
De repente, estamos vendo ações no terreno
11:31
from local government. We're seeing this mainstreamed.
256
675689
2280
do governo local. Está se popularizando.
11:33
We are responding creatively at last to what Rio demanded
257
677969
4425
Por fim, estamos respondendo criativamente à demanda do Rio,
11:38
of us, and there's lots more you could do.
258
682394
2179
11:40
I mean, just to list a few. One, please stop putting
259
684573
2360
Quer dizer, apenas para listar alguns. Um, por favor parem de colocar
11:42
prickly plants around public buildings. It's a waste of space.
260
686933
3368
plantas espinhentas em volta de prédios públicos. É desperdício de espaço.
11:46
(Laughter) Secondly, please create -- please, please create
261
690301
3402
(Risos) Segundo, por favor criem -- por favor, por favor criem
11:49
edible landscapes so that our children start to walk
262
693703
2779
11:52
past their food day in, day out, on our high streets,
263
696482
2183
11:54
in our parks, wherever that might be.
264
698665
2586
11:57
Inspire local planners to put the food sites at the heart
265
701251
3694
12:00
of the town and the city plan, not relegate them
266
704945
3263
12:04
to the edges of the settlements that nobody can see.
267
708208
3320
12:07
Encourage all our schools to take this seriously.
268
711528
2817
Encoragem todas as nossas escolas a levar isso a sério.
12:10
This isn't a second class exercise.
269
714345
2233
Não é exercício de segunda classe.
12:12
If we want to inspire the farmers of tomorrow,
270
716578
2968
Se quisermos inspirar os agricultores de amanhã,
12:15
then please let us say to every school,
271
719546
3049
então nos deixe dizer a todas as escolas,
12:18
create a sense of purpose around the importance
272
722595
3980
12:22
to the environment, local food and soils.
273
726575
2800
12:25
Put that at the heart of your school culture,
274
729375
1887
Ponha isso no coração da cultura escolar,
12:27
and you will create a different generation.
275
731262
3162
e você criará uma geração diferente.
12:30
There are so many things you can do, but ultimately
276
734424
2439
12:32
this is about something really simple.
277
736863
2288
isso é algo bem simples.
12:35
Through an organic process, through
278
739151
3625
12:38
an increasing recognition of the power of small actions,
279
742776
4287
12:42
we are starting, at last, to believe in ourselves again,
280
747063
3825
12:46
and to believe in our capacity, each and every one of us,
281
750888
3841
12:50
to build a different and a kinder future,
282
754729
4393
12:55
and in my book, that's incredible.
283
759122
2423
e, a meu ver, isso é incrível.
12:57
Thank you. (Applause)

Obrigada. (Aplausos)
