Quais são os verdadeiros desafios

00:38
Well, first of all, how do we get

Em primeiro lugar, como conseguimos
as capacidades de uma formiga

in a robotrobô at the samemesmo sizeTamanho scaleescala?

00:44
Well, first we need to figurefigura out
how to make them movemover
10
31909
2604
Primeiro temos que descobrir
como fazê-los andar,
sendo tão pequenos.
00:46
when they're so smallpequeno.
11
34513
1410
Precisamos de mecanismos como

we want a lot of them workingtrabalhando togetherjuntos

17
49071

queremos que trabalhem em conjunto

01:05
So I'll startcomeçar with mobilitymobilidade.
18
53019
2691
Vou começar com a mobilidade.
01:07
InsectsInsetos movemover around amazinglySurpreendentemente well.

01:17
and it's ablecapaz to do this because its legspernas
are a combinationcombinação of rigidrígida materialsmateriais,
23
65195
3997
Ela consegue fazer isto porque as suas
pernas combinam materiais rígidos,
01:21
whichqual is what we traditionallytradicionalmente

24
69192
2353
que usamos tradicionalmente
para fazer robôs,
01:23
and softsuave materialsmateriais.
25
71545
1599
com materiais macios.
01:26
JumpingSalto is anotheroutro really interestinginteressante way
to get around when you're very smallpequeno.
26
74374
3827
Quando se é muito pequeno, outra forma
interessante de deslocação é saltar.
01:30
So these insectsinsetos storeloja energyenergia in a springPrimavera
and releaselançamento that really quicklyrapidamente
27
78201
4069
Estes insetos armazenam energia numa mola
e libertam-na muito rapidamente,
01:34
to get the highAlto powerpoder they need
to jumpsaltar out of wateragua, for exampleexemplo.
28
82270
4011
para conseguirem a potência necessária
para sair da água, por exemplo.
01:38
So one of the biggrande
contributionscontribuições from my lablaboratório
29
86281
3122
Uma das grandes contribuições
do meu laboratório
01:41
has been to combinecombinar
rigidrígida and softsuave materialsmateriais
30
89403
2750
tem sido combinar
materiais rígidos e macios
01:44
in very, very smallpequeno mechanismsmecanismos.
31
92153
2214
em mecanismos muito, muito pequenos.
01:46
So this jumpingsaltando mechanismmecanismo
is about fourquatro millimetersmilímetros on a sidelado,
32
94367
3165
Este mecanismo de salto tem cerca
de quatro milímetros de lado.
01:49
so really tinyminúsculo.
33
97532
1688
É muito pequeno.
01:51
The hardDifícil materialmaterial here is siliconsilício,
and the softsuave materialmaterial is siliconesilicone rubberborracha.
34
99220
3838
O material rígido aqui é silicone,
e o macio é borracha de silicone.
01:55
And the basicbásico ideaidéia is that
we're going to compresscomprimir this,
35
103058
2895
A ideia básica é que vamos
comprimir isto,
01:58
storeloja energyenergia in the springsmolas,
and then releaselançamento it to jumpsaltar.
36
105953
2701
armazenar energia nas molas
e depois soltá-la para saltar.
02:00
So there's no motorsmotores
on boardborda this right now, no powerpoder.
37
108654
3383
Ainda não estamos a usar
motores ou potência.
02:04
This is actuatedatuada with a methodmétodo
that we call in my lablaboratório
38
112037
2763
Isto é acionado com um método a que
chamamos, no meu laboratório,
02:07
"graduategraduado studentaluna with tweezerspinça."
(LaughterRiso)
39
114800
2672
"universitário com pinças".
(Risos)
02:09
So what you'llvocê vai see in the nextPróximo videovídeo
40
117472
1834
O que verão no próximo vídeo
02:11
is this guy doing
amazinglySurpreendentemente well for its jumpssalta.
41
119306
3027
é um tipo a portar-se muito
bem nos seus saltos.
02:14
So this is AaronAaron, the graduategraduado studentaluna
in questionquestão, with the tweezerspinça,
42
122333
3614
Este é o Aaron, o universitário
em questão, com as pinças.
02:18
and what you see is this
four-millimeter-sizedquatro-milímetros de tamanho mechanismmecanismo
43
125947
2683
O que veem é um mecanismo
de quatro milímetros
02:20
jumpingsaltando almostquase 40 centimeterscentímetros highAlto.
44
128630
2211
a saltar cerca de 40
centímetros em altura.
02:23
That's almostquase 100 timesvezes its ownpróprio lengthcomprimento.
45
130841
2424
É quase 100 vezes o seu comprimento.
02:25
And it survivessobrevive, bouncessalta on the tablemesa,
46
133265
1956
Ele sobrevive, balança na mesa,
02:27
it's incrediblyincrivelmente robustrobusto, and of coursecurso
survivessobrevive quitebastante well untilaté we loseperder it
47
135221
3514
é incrivelmente robusto e sobrevive
muito bem até que o perdemos,
02:30
because it's very tinyminúsculo.
48
138735
2626
por ser tão pequeno.
02:33
UltimatelyEm última análise, thoughApesar, we want
to addadicionar motorsmotores to this too,
49
141361
2609
Em última análise, queremos
acrescentar motores a isto.
02:36
and we have studentsalunos in the lablaboratório
workingtrabalhando on millimeter-sizedTamanho mm motorsmotores
50
143970
3116
Temos estudantes no laboratório
a trabalhar em motores milimétricos,
02:39
to eventuallyeventualmente integrateintegrar ontopara
smallpequeno, autonomousAutônomo robotsrobôs.
51
147086
3600
para serem integrados em robôs
pequenos e autónomos.
02:42
But in orderordem to look at mobilitymobilidade and
locomotionlocomoção at this sizeTamanho scaleescala to startcomeçar,
52
150686
3581
De modo a trabalhar a mobilidade e a
locomoção a esta escala, para começar,
02:46
we're cheatingfazer batota and usingusando magnetsímãs.
53
154267
1974
estamos a fazer batota e a usar ímanes.
02:48
So this showsmostra what would eventuallyeventualmente
be partparte of a micro-robotmicrorobô legperna,
54
156241
3076
Isto mostra o que poderá ser parte
da perna de um micro-robô.
02:51
and you can see the siliconesilicone rubberborracha jointsarticulações
55
159317
2017
Podem ver as juntas
de borracha de silicone.
02:53
and there's an embeddedembutido magnetÍman em forma de
that's beingser movedse mudou around
56
161334
2629
Existe um íman incorporado
que está a ser deslocado
02:56
by an externalexterno magneticmagnético fieldcampo.
57
163963
2303
por um campo magnético externo.
02:58
So this leadsconduz to the robotrobô
that I showedmostrou you earliermais cedo.
58
166266
2683
Isto leva-nos ao robô
que vos mostrei antes.
03:02
The really interestinginteressante thing
that this robotrobô can help us figurefigura out
59
169959
3151
A coisa mais interessante que este
robô nos ajuda a perceber
é como os insetos se movem, a esta escala.
03:05
is how insectsinsetos movemover at this scaleescala.
60
173110
2007
Temos um modelo realmente bom
de como tudo se move,
03:07
We have a really good modelmodelo
for how everything
61
175117
2225
03:09
from a cockroachbarata up to an elephantelefante movesse move.
62
177342
1962
desde uma barata até a um elefante.
03:11
We all movemover in this
kindtipo of bouncyinsuflável way when we runcorre.
63
179304
2924
Todos nos movemos de um modo
saltitante quando corremos.
03:14
But when I'm really smallpequeno,
the forcesforças betweenentre my feetpés and the groundchão
64
182228
4285
Quando se é muito pequeno,
as forças entre os pés e o chão
03:18
are going to affectafetar my locomotionlocomoção
a lot more than my massmassa,
65
186513
2775
afetam muito mais a locomoção
do que a massa,
03:21
whichqual is what causescausas that bouncyinsuflável motionmovimento.
66
189288
2354
que é o que causa aquele
movimento saltitante.
03:23
So this guy doesn't work quitebastante yetainda,
67
191642
1675
Este tipo ainda não funciona,
03:25
but we do have slightlylevemente largermaior versionsversões
that do runcorre around.
68
193317
3075
mas temos versões ligeiramente
maiores que conseguem correr.
03:28
So this is about a centimetercentímetros cubedao cubo,
a centimetercentímetros on a sidelado, so very tinyminúsculo,
69
196392
3885
Isto tem cerca de um centímetro cúbico,
um centímetro de lado, muito pequeno.
03:32
and we'venós temos gottenobtido this to runcorre
about 10 bodycorpo lengthscomprimentos perpor secondsegundo,
70
200277
2902
Pusemo-lo a correr 10 comprimentos do seu
corpo por segundo, ou 10 cm por segundo.
03:35
so 10 centimeterscentímetros perpor secondsegundo.
71
203179
1386
03:36
It's prettybonita quickrápido for a little, smallpequeno guy,
72
204565
2033
Bastante rápido,
para um tipo tão pequeno,
03:38
and that's really only limitedlimitado
by our testteste setupinstalação.
73
206598
2362
e só está limitado pelo nossos testes.
Isto dá-nos uma ideia de como
as coisas funcionam neste momento.
03:41
But this gives you some ideaidéia
of how it workstrabalho right now.
74
208960
2647
03:44
We can alsoAlém disso make 3D-printedD-impresso versionsversões
of this that can climbescalar over obstaclesobstáculos,
75
212027
3754
Também podemos fazer versões impressas
em 3D que conseguem trepar obstáculos,
03:47
a lot like the cockroachbarata
that you saw earliermais cedo.
76
215781
3499
como a barata, que viram antes.
03:51
But ultimatelyem última análise we want to addadicionar
everything onboarda bordo the robotrobô.
77
219280
2886
Em última análise, queremos
acrescentar tudo a este robô.
03:54
We want sensingde detecção, powerpoder, controlao controle,
actuationatuação all togetherjuntos,
78
222166
3693
Queremos sensores, potência,
controlo, tudo acionado em conjunto.
03:58
and not everything
needsprecisa to be bio-inspiredBio-inspirada.
79
225859
2906
Nem tudo tem que ser
inspirado na biologia.
04:00
So this robot'sdo robô about
the sizeTamanho of a TicTique TacTAC.
80
228765
3135
Este robô tem cerca
do tamanho de um Tic Tac.
04:04
And in this casecaso, insteadem vez de of magnetsímãs
or musclesmúsculos to movemover this around,
81
231900
3949
Neste caso, em vez de ímanes
ou músculos para se mover,
04:08
we use rocketsfoguetes.
82
235849
2425
usamos foguetes.
04:10
So this is a micro-fabricatedmicrofabricadas
energeticenergético materialmaterial,
83
238274
2666
Isto é um material energético
micro fabricado.
04:13
and we can createcrio tinyminúsculo pixelspixéis of this,
84
240940
2599
Podemos criar pequenos
pontos deste material,
04:15
and we can put one of these pixelspixéis
on the bellybarriga of this robotrobô,
85
243539
3787
e podemos pôr um desses pontos
na barriga deste robô.
04:19
and this robotrobô, then, is going to jumpsaltar
when it sensessentidos an increaseaumentar in lightluz.
86
247326
4396
Assim, este robô vai saltar quando
sentir um aumento de luz.
04:24
So the nextPróximo videovídeo is one of my favoritesfavoritos.
87
252645
1973
O próximo vídeo é um dos meus favoritos.
04:26
So you have this 300-milligram-miligrama robotrobô
88
254618
3040
Temos aqui um robô de 300 miligramas
04:29
jumpingsaltando about eightoito
centimeterscentímetros in the airar.
89
257658
2406
a saltar oito centímetros no ar.
04:32
It's only fourquatro by fourquatro
by sevenSete millimetersmilímetros in sizeTamanho.
90
260064
2910
Só tem quatro por quatro por sete
milímetros de tamanho.
04:35
And you'llvocê vai see a biggrande flashinstantâneo
at the beginningcomeçando
91
262974
2156
Verão um grande clarão no início,
04:37
when the energeticenergético is setconjunto off,
92
265130
1492
quando a energia for libertada,
04:38
and the robotrobô tumblingTumbling throughatravés the airar.
93
266622
1908
e o robô aos tombos pelo ar.
04:40
So there was that biggrande flashinstantâneo,
94
268530
1609
Aí está o grande clarão,
04:42
and you can see the robotrobô
jumpingsaltando up throughatravés the airar.
95
270139
3197
e podemos ver o robô
a subir através do ar.
04:45
So there's no tethersbaraços on this,
no wiresfios connectingconectando to this.
96
273336
3032
Não há aqui amarras nem fios de ligação.
04:48
Everything is onboarda bordo,

04:55
