ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Hasan Elahi - Privacy artist
In 2002, American artist Hasan Elahi’s name was added (by mistake) to the US government’s watch list.

Why you should listen

That led to an intensive investigation by the FBI. After months of interrogations, Elahi was finally cleared of suspicions but advised to keep the FBI informed of his whereabouts. Which he did -- fully, by opening up just about every aspect of his life to the public. What started with a practicality grew into an open-ended art project, with Elahi posting photos of his minute-by-minute life online (hotel rooms, airports, meals, receipts, bathrooms), tracking himself on Google Maps, releasing communication records, banking transactions and transportation logs, and more. The project questions the consequences of living under constant surveillance, and it has been presented at Centre Pompidou in Paris and at the Venice Biennale, among others. He is an associate professor of Art at University of Maryland, roughly equidistant from the CIA, FBI and NSA headquarters.

Hi there. I'm Hasan. I'm an artist.
0
0
2000
Tungjatjeta. Unë jam Hasan. Jam artist.
00:17
And usually when I tell people I'm an artist,
1
2000
3000
Zakonisht kur i them njerëzve që jam një artist,
00:20
they just look at me and say, "Do you paint?"
2
5000
2000
ata më shikojne mua dhe thonë , "A pikturon?"
00:22
or "What kind of medium do you work in?"
3
7000
3000
apo " cfaer lloj pune ben ti?"
00:25
Well most of my work that I work with
4
10000
2000
Shumicen e punës që unë bëj
00:27
is really a little bit about methodologies of working
5
12000
3000
është vetem pak rreth metodologjisë së punës
00:30
rather than actually a specific discipline
6
15000
3000
me mire se një disipline e vecantë
00:33
or a specific technique.
7
18000
2000
apo një teknik specifike.
00:35
So what I'm really interested in is creative problem solving.
8
20000
3000
00:38
And I had a little bit of a problem a few years ago.
9
23000
3000
00:41
So let me show you a little of that.
10
26000
2000
00:43
So it started over here.
11
28000
2000
Filloj ketu.
00:45
And this is the Detroit airport in June 19th of 2002.
12
30000
4000
00:49
I was flying back to the U.S. from an exhibition overseas.
13
34000
3000
00:52
And as I was coming back,
14
37000
2000
Dhe ndersa isha duke u kthyer,
00:54
well I was taken by the FBI, met by an FBI agent,
15
39000
3000
00:57
and went into a little room
16
42000
2000
më derguan në një dhome të vogël
00:59
and he asked me all sorts of questions --
17
44000
2000
01:01
"Where were you? What were you doing? Who were you talking with?
18
46000
2000
"Ku ishe? Cfare ishte duke bërë? Me kë ishe duke folur?
01:03
Why were you there? Who pays for your trips?" --
19
48000
2000
Përse ishe atje? Kush kishte paguar për udhetimin tuaj? --
01:05
all these little details.
20
50000
2000
të gjitha këto detaje të vogla.
01:07
And then literally just out of nowhere,
21
52000
2000
dhe fjalë për fjalë nga askund,
01:09
the guy asks me, "Where were you September 12th?"
22
54000
3000
01:12
And when most of us get asked, "Where were you September 12th?"
23
57000
2000
01:14
or any date for that fact,
24
59000
2000
apo cfardo date për atë fakt,
01:16
it's like, "I don't exactly remember, but I can look it up for you."
25
61000
3000
01:19
So I pulled out my little PDA,
26
64000
2000
01:21
and I said, "Okay, let's look up my appointments for September 12th."
27
66000
3000
dhe thashe, "Në rregull, te shikoj takimet e mia me 12 Shtator"
01:24
I had September 12th -- from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., I paid my storage bill.
28
69000
3000
01:27
From 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., I met with Judith who was one of my graduate students at the time.
29
72000
3000
01:30
From 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., I taught my intro class,
30
75000
2000
Nga 12:00 deri në 3:00, ligjerova në klasen time,
01:32
3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., I taught my advanced class.
31
77000
2000
3:00 deri 6:00, ligjerova ne klasen e avancuar.
01:34
"Where were you the 11th?" "Where were you the 10th?"
32
79000
2000
"Ku ishe ne daten 11? " Ku ishe ne daten 10?"
01:36
"Where were you the 29th? the 30th?"
33
81000
2000
"Ku ishe me date 29? Po me 30?"
01:38
"Where were you October 5th?"
34
83000
2000
"Ku ke qen më 5 Tetor?"
01:40
We read about six months of my calendar.
35
85000
3000
Ne lexuam rreth 6 muajt e kalendarit tim.
01:43
And I don't think he was expecting me to have such detailed records
36
88000
3000
01:46
of what I did.
37
91000
2000
per ate qe kisha bere.
01:48
But good thing I did,
38
93000
2000
Mire qe e kisha berë,
01:50
because I don't look good in orange.
39
95000
2000
01:52
(Laughter)
40
97000
2000
(Qeshje)
01:54
So he asked me --
41
99000
2000
Kështu që më pyeti --
01:56
(Applause)
42
101000
2000
(Duartrokitje)
01:58
"So this storage unit that you paid the rent on,
43
103000
2000
"Pra, ne keto fatura qe ke paguar qeran,
02:00
what did you have in it?"
44
105000
3000
cfare kishe në to?
02:03
This was in Tampa, Florida,
45
108000
2000
Kjo ishte në Tampa, Florida,
02:05
so I was like, "Winter clothes that I have no use for in Florida.
46
110000
3000
02:08
Furniture that I can't fit in my ratty apartment.
47
113000
3000
02:11
Just assorted garage sale junk,
48
116000
3000
Vetem gjëra të zgjedhuar për shitje,
02:14
because I'm a pack rat."
49
119000
2000
sepse unë jam një mi i paketuar"
02:16
And he looks at me really confused and says, "No explosives?"
50
121000
3000
02:19
(Laughter)
51
124000
2000
(Qeshje)
02:21
I was like, "No, no. I'm pretty certain there were no explosives.
52
126000
2000
02:23
And if there were, I would have remembered that one."
53
128000
3000
Po te kishte patur ndonje, me siguri do te me ishte kujtuar."
02:26
And he's still a little confused,
54
131000
2000
Ai akoma është paksa i habitur,
02:28
but I think that anyone who talks to me for more than a couple of minutes
55
133000
2000
02:30
realizes I'm not exactly a terrorist threat.
56
135000
3000
02:33
And so we're sitting there,
57
138000
3000
Dhe kështu ne ishim ulur këtu,
02:36
and eventually after about an hour, hour and a half of just going back and forth,
58
141000
4000
02:40
he says, "Okay, I have enough information here.
59
145000
2000
ai tha, "Në rregull kam informacionin e duhur tani.
02:42
I'm going to pass this onto the Tampa office. They're the ones who initiated this.
60
147000
2000
Do ta transferoj tek zyra në Tampa.
02:44
They'll follow up with you, and we'll take care of it."
61
149000
2000
02:46
I was like, "Great."
62
151000
2000
Une thashe, "Super."
02:48
So I got home and the phone rings,
63
153000
3000
02:51
and a man introduced himself.
64
156000
2000
një njëri prezantohet.
02:53
Basically this is the FBI offices in Tampa
65
158000
3000
02:56
where I spent six months of my life --
66
161000
2000
ku harxhova 6 muaj të jetes sime --
02:58
back and forth, not six months continuously.
67
163000
2000
para dhe mbrapa, jo gjashtë muaj ne vazhdimesi.
03:00
By the way, you folks know that in the United States,
68
165000
2000
Meqë ra fjala, ju degjues e dini qe ne Shtetet e Bashkuara,
03:02
you can't take photographs of federal buildings,
69
167000
2000
03:04
but Google can do it for you.
70
169000
2000
po Google mund ta bëj kete për ty.
03:06
So to the folks from Google, thank you.
71
171000
2000
Kështu që degjuesve nga google, ju faliminderit.
03:08
(Applause)
72
173000
3000
(Duartrokitje)
03:11
So I spent a lot of time in this building.
73
176000
2000
03:13
Questions like:
74
178000
2000
Pyetje si:
03:15
"Have you ever witnessed or participated in any act
75
180000
3000
"A keni dëshmuar apo marre pjese në ndonje akt
03:18
that may be detrimental to the United States or a foreign nation?"
76
183000
4000
03:22
And you also have to consider the state of mind you're in
77
187000
2000
03:24
when you're doing this.
78
189000
2000
kur je duke bërë këtë.
03:26
You're basically face-to-face with someone
79
191000
2000
Ne te vertete jeni balle per balle me dike
03:28
that essentially decides life or death.
80
193000
3000
i cili vendos jete apo vdekje.
03:31
Or questions such as -- actually, during the polygraph,
81
196000
2000
Apo pyetje si -- gjate poligrafit,
03:33
which was how it finally ended after nine consecutive of them --
82
198000
3000
03:36
one of the polygraph questions was ...
83
201000
2000
njëra nga pyetjet e polografit ishte ..
03:38
well the first one was, "Is your name Hasan?" "Yes."
84
203000
3000
e para ishte "A është emri i juaj Hasan?" "Po."
03:41
"Are we in Florida?" "Yes." "Is today Tuesday?" "Yes."
85
206000
3000
"A jemi ne në Florida? " "Po." "A është sot e Martë?" "Po"
03:44
Because you have to base it on a yes or no.
86
209000
2000
03:46
Then, of course, the next question is:
87
211000
2000
Me pas, sigurisht, pyetja tjeter është:
03:48
"Do you belong to any groups that wish to harm the United States?"
88
213000
3000
"A je pjesë e ndonje grupi i cili dëshiron të dëmtoj Shtetet e Bashkuara?"
03:51
I work at a university.
89
216000
2000
Unë punoj në universitet.
03:53
(Laughter)
90
218000
2000
(Qeshje)
03:55
So I was like, "Maybe you want to ask some of my colleagues that directly."
91
220000
4000
03:59
But they said, "Okay, aside from what we had discussed,
92
224000
3000
04:02
do you belong to any groups that wish to harm the United States?"
93
227000
2000
a jeni pjes e ndonje grupi i cili dëshiron të dëmtoj Shtetet e BAshkuara?"
04:04
I was like, "No."
94
229000
2000
Une thashe, "Jo."
04:06
So at the end of six months of this
95
231000
2000
Kështu që në fund të gjashtë muajve
04:08
and nine consecutive polygraphs,
96
233000
2000
dhe nëntë seancave të poligrafit
04:10
they said, "Hey, everything's fine."
97
235000
2000
04:12
I was like, "I know. That's what I've been trying to tell you guys all along.
98
237000
2000
Une ju pergjigja. Kjo ishte ajo që dëshiroja tju thoja që ne fillim.
04:14
I know everything's fine."
99
239000
2000
04:16
So they're looking at me really odd.
100
241000
3000
Kështu që ato po me shikonin verte cuditëshem.
04:19
And it's like, "Guys, I travel a lot."
101
244000
2000
Dhe thashe, "Djema unë udhëtoj shumë."
04:21
This is with the FBI.
102
246000
2000
Kjo është me FBI-në.
04:23
And I was like, "All we need is Alaska not to get the last memo,
103
248000
2000
04:25
and here we go all over again."
104
250000
2000
dhe ja ku jemi qe nga fillimi."
04:27
And there was a sincere concern there.
105
252000
2000
Dhe atje ishte një cështje e sinqert.
04:29
And he was like, "You know, if you get into trouble,
106
254000
2000
Ishte sikur, "E di cfar, nëse keni ndonje problem,
04:31
give us a call -- we'll take care of it."
107
256000
2000
04:33
So ever since then, before I would go anywhere, I would call the FBI.
108
258000
3000
04:36
I would tell them, "Hey guys, this is where I'm going. This is my flight.
109
261000
3000
Do I them, "Shikoni djema, ky eshte vendi kut do te shkoj. Ky është fluturimi im.
04:39
Northwest flight seven coming into Seattle
110
264000
3000
Fluturimi veri-perendimor i shtatë i cili vjen nga Seattle
04:42
on March 12th" or whatever.
111
267000
2000
më 12 Mars " apo cfaredotjeter.
04:44
A couple weeks later, I'd call again, let them know.
112
269000
2000
Disa jave me vone, do ti telefonoj prap, ti tregoj.
04:46
It wasn't that I had to, but I chose to.
113
271000
3000
04:49
Just wanted to say, "Hey guys.
114
274000
2000
Vetem doja te thoja, "Hey djema.
04:51
Don't want to make it look like I'm making any sudden moves."
115
276000
2000
Mos mendoni se jam duke bëre ndonje film "
04:53
(Laughter)
116
278000
2000
(Qeshje)
04:55
"I don't want you guys to think that I'm about to flee.
117
280000
3000
"Sdua që ju djema të mendoni se une jam duke ikur.
04:58
Just letting you know. Heads up."
118
283000
2000
Vetem qe ta dini. Duart përpjet."
05:00
And so I just kept doing this over and over and over.
119
285000
2000
05:02
And then the phone calls turned into emails,
120
287000
2000
Dhe thirrjet telefonike u kthyen në e-mail,
05:04
and the emails got longer and longer and longer ...
121
289000
2000
05:06
with pictures,
122
291000
2000
me fotografi,
05:08
with travel tips.
123
293000
2000
me udhetime.
05:10
Then I'd make websites.
124
295000
2000
Me pas do te bej një faqe interneti.
05:12
And then I built this over here. Let me go back to it over here.
125
297000
2000
Dhe ndërtova këtë që shihni. Më lejoni të shkoj këtu.
05:14
So I actually designed this back in 2003.
126
299000
3000
Kështu që unë e dizajnova në 2003.
05:17
So this kind of tracks me at any given moment.
127
302000
3000
05:20
I wrote some code for my mobile phone.
128
305000
2000
Une shkruajta disa kode për telefonin tim.
05:22
Basically, what I decided is okay guys, you want to watch me, that's cool.
129
307000
3000
05:25
But I'll watch myself. It's okay.
130
310000
2000
Po unë do te shikoj veten. Në rregull.
05:27
You don't have to waste your energy or your resources.
131
312000
2000
05:29
And I'll help you out.
132
314000
3000
Do t'ju ndihmoj.
05:32
So in the process, I start thinking, well what else might they know about me?
133
317000
3000
05:35
Well they probably have all my flight records,
134
320000
2000
Ndoshta duan të dine numrat e të gjithe fluturimeve të mia,
05:37
so I decided to put all my flight records from birth online.
135
322000
5000
05:42
So you can see, Delta 1252
136
327000
3000
Kështu që mund ti shihni, Delta 1252
05:45
going from Kansas City to Atlanta.
137
330000
2000
duke shkuar nga qyteti Kanas në Atlanta.
05:47
And then you see, these are some of the meals that I've been fed on the planes.
138
332000
3000
05:52
This was on Delta 719
139
337000
2000
Kjo ishte në Delta 719
05:54
going from JFK to San Francisco.
140
339000
4000
05:58
See that? They won't let me on a plane with that,
141
343000
3000
06:01
but they'll give it to me on the plane.
142
346000
2000
por do të ma japin ne avion.
06:03
(Laughter)
143
348000
2000
(Qeshje)
06:05
These are the airports that I hang out in,
144
350000
2000
06:07
because I like airports.
145
352000
2000
sepse më pëlqejn aeroportet.
06:09
That's Kennedy airport, May 19th, Tuesday.
146
354000
3000
Ky është Airoporti i Kendy-it, 19 Maj, e martë.
06:12
This is in Warsaw.
147
357000
3000
Ky është Warsaw.
06:15
Singapore. You can see, they're kind of empty.
148
360000
3000
Singapor. Sic mund ta shihni, është i boshatisur i tëri.
06:18
These images are shot really anonymously
149
363000
2000
Këto imazhe jane marre me anonimitet të plot
06:20
to the point where it could be anyone.
150
365000
2000
06:22
But if you can cross-reference this with the other data,
151
367000
3000
06:25
then you're basically replaying the roll of the FBI agent
152
370000
2000
06:27
and putting it all together.
153
372000
2000
duke i vëndosur të gjith së bashku.
06:29
And when you're in a situation
154
374000
2000
Dhe kur jeni në një situat
06:31
where you have to justify every moment of your existence,
155
376000
2000
ku ju duhet të sqaroni cdo moment të ekzistences suaj,
06:33
you're put in the situation where you react in a very different manner.
156
378000
3000
06:36
At the time that this was going on,
157
381000
2000
Në kohen qe kjo po zhvillohej,
06:38
the last thing on my mind was "art project."
158
383000
3000
gjëja e fundit në mendjen time ishte " projekti i artit".
06:41
I was certainly not thinking, hey, I got new work here.
159
386000
3000
06:44
But after going through this, after realizing, well what just happened?
160
389000
3000
06:47
And after piecing together this, this and this,
161
392000
2000
06:49
this way of actually trying to figure out what happened for myself
162
394000
3000
06:52
eventually evolved into this,
163
397000
2000
u zhvillua në të gjithë këtë,
06:54
and it actually became this project.
164
399000
3000
dhe në fakt u bë ky projekt.
06:57
So these are the stores that I shop in -- some of them --
165
402000
2000
Pra këto jan tregimet të cilat i blejn -- disa nga to --
06:59
because they need to know.
166
404000
2000
sepse ju nevojitet ta dinë.
07:01
This is me buying some duck flavored paste
167
406000
2000
07:03
at the Ranch 99 in Daly City
168
408000
2000
në Ranch 99 në Qytetin Daly
07:05
on Sunday, November 15th.
169
410000
2000
të dielen, me 15 nentor.
07:07
At Coreana Supermarket
170
412000
2000
Në supermarketin Coreana
07:09
buying my kimchi because I like kimchi.
171
414000
2000
duke blerë kimichi sepse më pëlqen kimchi.
07:11
And I bought some crabs too right around there,
172
416000
3000
07:14
and some chitlins at the Safeway in Emoryville.
173
419000
3000
dhe disa supa tek Safeway në Emoryville.
07:17
And laundry too. Laundry detergent at West Oakland --
174
422000
2000
Dhe disa rroba gjithashtu. Detergjent për larje tek West Oakland --
07:19
East Oakland, sorry.
175
424000
2000
East Oakland, më falni
07:21
And then my pickled jellyfish
176
426000
2000
Dhe pastaj mora peshqirat
07:23
at the Hong Kong Supermarket on Route 18 in East Brunswick.
177
428000
3000
07:26
Now if you go to my bank records,
178
431000
2000
Nëse shikoni ne historikun e llogaris sime bankare,
07:28
it'll actually show something from there,
179
433000
2000
faktikisht prej andej do te dali dicka,
07:30
so you know that, on May 9th,
180
435000
2000
kështu që ju e dini, më 9 Maj,
07:32
that I bought $14.79 in fuel from Safeway Vallejo.
181
437000
3000
qe bleva 14.79$ benzin prej Safeway Vallejo.
07:35
So not only that I'm giving this information here and there,
182
440000
4000
07:39
but now there's a third party,
183
444000
2000
por tani është edhe pjesa e trete,
07:41
an independent third party, my bank,
184
446000
3000
pjesa e trete e pavarur, banka ime,
07:44
that's verifying that, yes indeed, I was there at this time.
185
449000
2000
07:46
So there's points, and these points are actually being cross-referenced.
186
451000
3000
07:49
And there's a verification taking place.
187
454000
2000
07:51
Sometimes they're really small purchases.
188
456000
2000
07:53
So 34 cents foreign transaction fee.
189
458000
2000
Kështu që 34 cent shërbime për transaksionin nderkombëtar.
07:55
All of these are extracted directly from my bank accounts,
190
460000
3000
07:58
and everything pops up right away.
191
463000
2000
dhe gjithcka shfaqet menjëher.
08:00
Sometimes there's a lot of information.
192
465000
2000
Nganjëhere ka shumë informacione.
08:02
This is exactly where my old apartment in San Francisco was.
193
467000
4000
08:06
And then sometimes you get this.
194
471000
2000
Dhe nganjëhere e kupton kete gje.
08:08
Sometimes you just get this, just an empty hallway in Salt Lake City,
195
473000
2000
08:10
January 22nd.
196
475000
2000
te 22 Janarit.
08:12
And I can tell you exactly who I was with, where I was,
197
477000
2000
Mund t'ju them saktësisht se kush kam qen, ku isha,
08:14
because this is what I had to do with the FBI.
198
479000
2000
sepse kjo ishte cfare kam berë me FBI-në.
08:16
I had to tell them every little detail of everything.
199
481000
2000
08:18
I spend a lot of time on the road.
200
483000
2000
Kam harxhuar shumë kohë në rruge.
08:20
This is a parking lot in Elko, Nevada
201
485000
2000
Ky është parkingu në Elko, Nevada
08:22
off of Route 80
202
487000
2000
jasht rruges 80
08:24
at 8:01 p.m. on August 19th.
203
489000
2000
në ora 08:01 të mëngjesit më 19 Gusht.
08:26
I spend a lot of time in gas stations too -- empty train stations.
204
491000
3000
08:29
So there's multiple databases.
205
494000
2000
Kështu janë shumë baza të dhënavesh.
08:31
And there's thousands and thousands and thousands of images.
206
496000
3000
Dhe jane qinda e mijra fotografi.
08:34
There's actually 46,000 images right now on my site,
207
499000
3000
Në fakt jan 46,000 fotografi per momentin në faqen time,
08:37
and the FBI has seen all of them --
208
502000
3000
dhe FBI-ja i ka pare te gjitha --
08:40
at least I trust they've seen all of them.
209
505000
3000
të pakten besoj se i kane parë të gjitha.
08:43
And then sometimes you don't get much information at all,
210
508000
3000
08:46
you just get this empty bed.
211
511000
2000
ti merr vetem këtë shtrat të zbrazur.
08:48
And sometimes you get a lot of text information and no visual information.
212
513000
3000
Dhe ndonjehere merr vetem informacion tekstual dhe jo vizual.
08:51
So you get something like this.
213
516000
2000
08:53
This, by the way, is the location of my favorite sandwich shop in California --
214
518000
2000
08:55
Vietnamese sandwich.
215
520000
2000
Sandwvic Vietnames.
08:57
So there's different categorizations
216
522000
2000
Kështu që jane kategorizime të ndryshme
08:59
of meals eaten outside
217
524000
2000
të ushqimeve të ngrëna jashte
09:01
empty train stations, empty gas stations.
218
526000
3000
09:04
These are some of the meals that I've been cooking at home.
219
529000
2000
09:06
So how do you know these are meals eaten at home?
220
531000
2000
09:08
Well the same plate shows up a whole bunch of times.
221
533000
3000
09:11
So again, you have to do some detective work here.
222
536000
3000
09:14
So sometimes the databases get so specific.
223
539000
3000
Ndonjehere baza e të dhënave bëhet shumë specifike.
09:17
These are all tacos eaten in Mexico City
224
542000
2000
09:19
near a train station
225
544000
2000
afër stacionit të trenit
09:21
on July fifth to July sixth.
226
546000
3000
me pesë deri më gjashtë korrik.
09:24
At 11:39 a.m. was this one.
227
549000
2000
Në 11:39 ishte kjo.
09:26
At 1:56 p.m. was this one. At 4:59 p.m. was this one.
228
551000
3000
Në 1:56 ishte kjo . Në 4:59 ishte kjo.
09:29
So I time-stamp my life every few moments.
229
554000
3000
Kështu që regjistrova jeten time në cdo moment.
09:32
Every few moments I shoot the image.
230
557000
2000
Në cdo moment bëra një fotografi.
09:34
Now it's all done on my iPhone,
231
559000
2000
09:36
and it all goes straight up to my server,
232
561000
2000
09:38
and my server does all the backend work
233
563000
2000
09:40
and categorizes things and puts everything together.
234
565000
3000
09:43
They need to know where I'm doing my business,
235
568000
2000
Ato duhet ta dine se ku jam duke e bërë biznesin tim,
09:45
because they want to know about my business.
236
570000
3000
sepse ato ju duhet te dine rreth biznesit tim.
09:48
So on December 4th, I went here.
237
573000
3000
Kështu që me 4 dhjetor, shkova këtu.
09:51
And on Sunday, June 14th at 2009 --
238
576000
3000
Dhe të Dielen, me 14 qershor të 2009 --
09:54
this was actually about two o'clock in the afternoon
239
579000
2000
kjo ishte ores dy te pasdites
09:56
in Skowhegan, Maine -- this was my apartment there.
240
581000
2000
në Skowhegan, Maine -- ky ishte apartmanti im.
09:58
So what you're basically seeing here
241
583000
3000
10:01
is all bits and pieces and all this information.
242
586000
2000
10:03
If you go to my site, there's tons of things.
243
588000
3000
Nëse viziton faqen time, ka informacione te medha.
10:06
And really, it's not the most user-friendly interface.
244
591000
3000
10:09
It's actually quite user-unfriendly.
245
594000
4000
Eshtë pak a shume e papërshtatshme.
10:13
And one of the reasons, also being part of the user-unfriendliness,
246
598000
2000
10:15
is that everything is there,
247
600000
2000
është qe e gjitha eshte atje,
10:17
but you have to really work through it.
248
602000
2000
por duhet vërtet të punosh permes saj.
10:19
So by me putting all this information out there,
249
604000
4000
10:23
what I'm basically telling you is I'm telling you everything.
250
608000
3000
ajo cfare po u'a them juve është ajo qe po ju a them të gjitheve.
10:26
But in this barrage of noise
251
611000
2000
Por në kete perde zhurme
10:28
that I'm putting out,
252
613000
2000
të cilen jam duke e vendosur,
10:30
I actually live an incredibly anonymous and private life.
253
615000
4000
10:34
And you know very little about me actually.
254
619000
4000
10:38
And really so I've come to the conclusion
255
623000
3000
Dhe kështu kam arritur në përfundimin
10:41
that the way you protect your privacy,
256
626000
2000
10:43
particularly in an era where everything is cataloged
257
628000
2000
praktikisht ne kohen ku gjithcka është e kataloguar
10:45
and everything is archived and everything is recorded,
258
630000
2000
10:47
there's no need to delete information anymore.
259
632000
3000
10:50
So what do you do when everything is out there?
260
635000
3000
Keshtu qe cfare bën kur cdogje është atje jashte?
10:53
Well you have to take control over it.
261
638000
2000
Duhet të marrim kontrollin mbi të.
10:55
And if I give you this information directly,
262
640000
3000
Dhe nëse ua jap këtë informacion direkt,
10:58
it's a very different type of identity
263
643000
3000
është një lloj i ndryshem i identitetit
11:01
than if you were to try to go through and try to get bits and pieces.
264
646000
3000
11:04
The other thing that's also interesting that's going on here
265
649000
3000
The gjëja tjeter gjithashtu shumë interesante
11:07
is the fact that intelligence agencies --
266
652000
2000
është fakti që agjensite e intelegjences --
11:09
and it doesn't matter who they are --
267
654000
3000
11:12
they all operate in an industry
268
657000
2000
të gjitha ato operojne në një industri
11:14
where their commodity is information,
269
659000
2000
ku artikulli i tyre kryesor është informacioni,
11:16
or restricted access to information.
270
661000
2000
ose informacioni i cili është i kufizuar.
11:18
And the reason their information has any value
271
663000
3000
11:21
is, well, because no one else has access to it.
272
666000
3000
11:24
And by me cutting out the middle man
273
669000
2000
11:26
and giving it straight to you,
274
671000
3000
dhe duke ju a dhëne juve direkt,
11:29
the information that the FBI has has no value,
275
674000
3000
11:32
so thus devaluing their currency.
276
677000
3000
ju që po e devaluoni monedhen tuaj.
11:35
And I understand that, on an individual level,
277
680000
2000
Unë e kuptoj atë, qe në nivelin individual,
11:37
it's purely symbolic.
278
682000
2000
është simbolik i paster.
11:39
But if 300 million people in the U.S.
279
684000
2000
Por nëse 300 milion njerëz në SHBA
11:41
started doing this,
280
686000
2000
filluan ta bëjnë këtë,
11:43
we would have to redesign the entire intelligence system
281
688000
2000
ne duhet të ri-dizajnojmë të gjithe sistemin e intelegjences
11:45
from the ground up.
282
690000
2000
që nga fillimi.
11:47
Because it just wouldn't work if everybody was sharing everything.
283
692000
3000
Sepse thjeshte nuk do të bënte punë nese cdokush do të ndante cdogjë.
11:50
And we're getting to that.
284
695000
2000
Dhe ne jemi duke arrituar tek ajo.
11:52
When I first started this project,
285
697000
2000
Kur e fillova per here te pare kete projekt,
11:54
people were looking at me and saying,
286
699000
2000
njerezit më shikonin dhe më thonin,
11:56
"Why would you want to tell everybody what you're doing, where you're at?
287
701000
3000
"Përse dëshiron ti tregosh cdokujt se cfaer po bene, se ku je?"
11:59
Why are you posting these photos?"
288
704000
2000
Përse je duke postuar këto fotografi?"
12:01
This was an age before people were Tweeting everywhere
289
706000
4000
Kjo ishte koha kur njerëzit ishin duke tweet kudo
12:05
and 750 million people
290
710000
3000
dhe 750 milion njerëz
12:08
were posting status messages
291
713000
2000
12:10
or poking people.
292
715000
2000
ose duke u pokuar.
12:12
So in a way, I'm glad that I'm completely obsolete.
293
717000
3000
12:15
I'm still doing this project, but it is obsolete,
294
720000
3000
12:18
because you're all doing it.
295
723000
2000
12:20
This is something that we all are doing on a daily basis,
296
725000
2000
12:22
whether we're aware of it or not.
297
727000
2000
nëse ne jemi duke e ditur apo jo .
12:24
So we're creating our own archives and so on.
298
729000
3000
12:27
And you know, some of my friends have always said,
299
732000
3000
12:30
"Hey, you're just paranoid. Why are you doing this?
300
735000
2000
"Hej ti je një paranojak. Përse je duke e berë këtë?
12:32
Because no one's really watching.
301
737000
2000
Sepse askush nuk po te shikon.
12:34
No one's really going to bother you."
302
739000
2000
Askush nuk po të shqeteson ty"
12:36
So one of the things that I do
303
741000
2000
12:38
is I actually look through my server logs very carefully.
304
743000
2000
12:40
Because it's about surveillance.
305
745000
2000
Sepse flitet per vëzhgim.
12:42
I'm watching who's watching me.
306
747000
3000
Une shoh ate qe po me shikon mua.
12:45
And I came up with these.
307
750000
2000
Dhe une arrij ne keto perfundime.
12:47
So these are some of my sample logs.
308
752000
2000
Kështu që këto janë disa nga shembujt.
12:49
And just little bits and pieces, and you can see some of the things there.
309
754000
3000
Dhe vetem disa pjese dhe copëza, dhe mund te shihni disa prej tyre.
12:52
And I cleaned up the list a little bit so you can see.
310
757000
3000
12:55
So you can see that the Homeland Security likes to come by --
311
760000
3000
Kështu që ju mund ta shihni qe sigurimi i mëmëdheut dëshiron të vij me ---
12:58
Department of Homeland Security.
312
763000
2000
Departamentin e sigurimit të mëmëdheut.
13:00
You can see the National Security Agency likes to come by.
313
765000
2000
Ju mund të shihni se Agjencia e sigurimit nacional dëshiron të vij.
13:02
I actually moved very close to them. I live right down the street from them now.
314
767000
4000
13:06
Central Intelligence Agency.
315
771000
2000
Agjensia qendrore e intelegjences (CIA).
13:08
Executive Office of the President.
316
773000
4000
Zyra ekzekutive e presidentit.
13:12
Not really sure why they show up, but they do.
317
777000
3000
13:15
I think they kind of like to look at art.
318
780000
2000
Mendoj se atyre u pëlqen të shikojne art.
13:17
And I'm glad that we have patrons of the arts in these fields.
319
782000
4000
13:21
So thank you very much. I appreciate it.
320
786000
2000
Ju faliminderit shume. E vlerësoj këtë.
13:23
(Applause)
321
788000
9000
(Duartrokitje)
13:33
Bruno Giussani: Hasan, just curious.
322
798000
2000
Bruno giussanni: Hasan, thjesht per kuriozitet.
13:35
You said, "Now everything automatically goes from my iPhone,"
323
800000
3000
Ju thate "Tani cdogjë automatikisht shkon prej Iphon-it tuaj,"
13:38
but actually you do take the pictures and put on information.
324
803000
2000
13:40
So how many hours of the day does that take?
325
805000
3000
13:43
HE: Almost none.
326
808000
2000
Ai: Në fakt asnjë.
13:45
It's no different
327
810000
2000
Nuk është me ndryshe
13:47
than sending a text.
328
812000
2000
sesa dergimi i një teksti.
13:49
It's no different than checking an email.
329
814000
3000
13:52
It's one of those things, we got by just fine before we had to do any of those.
330
817000
2000
13:54
So it's just become another day.
331
819000
2000
13:56
I mean, when we update a status message,
332
821000
2000
Dua te them, kur ne përditësojm statutin tonë në mesenxher,
13:58
we don't really think about how long that's going to take.
333
823000
3000
14:01
So it's really just a matter of my phone clicking a couple of clicks,
334
826000
2000
14:03
send, and then it's done.
335
828000
2000
14:05
And everything's automated at the other end.
336
830000
2000
Dhe gjithcka eshte e automatizuar per fundin tjeter.
14:07
BG: On the day you are in a place where there is no coverage, the FBI gets crazy?
337
832000
3000
14:10
HE: Well it goes to the last point that I was at.
338
835000
2000
Ai: Epo shkon tek pika e fundit që unë isha.
14:12
So it holds onto the very last point.
339
837000
2000
14:14
So if I'm on a 12-hour flight,
340
839000
2000
14:16
you'll see the last airport that I departed from.
341
841000
3000
ju do të shihni piken e fundit prej airoportit prej të cilit jeni nisur.
14:19
BG: Hasan, thank you very much. (HE: Thank you.)
342
844000
3000
BG: Hasan, faliminderit shumë (Ai: Faliminderit.)
14:22
(Applause)
343
847000
2000
