00:21
And in a way, that's true真正, because everything is vibrating振動.
2

00:38
Your ears耳朵 can't hear that chord;
9
23000
2000
00:40
they can actually其實 hear amazing驚人 things. Your ears耳朵 can hear 10 octaves八度.
10

3000
00:43
Incidentally順便, we see just one octave八度.
11

3000
00:46
Your ears耳朵 are always on -- you have no ear lids.
12

Ears耳朵 are made製作 not for hearing聽力,

01:01
but for listening.
19
46000
2000
還能傾聽別人的心聲;
01:03
Listening聽力 is an active活性 skill技能,
20
48000
2000
01:05
whereas hearing聽力 is passive被動, listening is something that we have to work at --
21
50000
3000
01:08
it's a relationship關係 with sound聲音.
22

01:10
And yet然而 it's a skill技能 that none沒有 of us are taught.

01:12
For example, have you ever considered考慮 that there are listening positions位置,

25
60000
2000
01:17
Here are two of them.
26
62000
2000
01:19
Reductive還原的 listening is listening "for."
27
64000
2000
01:21
It reduces減少 everything down to what's relevant相應
28
66000
3000
01:24
and it discards丟棄 everything that's not relevant相應.
29
69000
2000
01:26
Men男人 typically一般 listen reductively還原.
30
71000
2000
01:28
So he's saying, "I've got this problem問題."
31
73000
2000
01:30
He's saying, "Here's這裡的 your solution. Thanks謝謝 very much. Next下一個."
32
75000
2000
01:32
That's the way we talk, right guys?
33
77000
2000
01:34
Expansive膨脹 listening, on the other hand,
34
79000
2000
01:36
is listening "with," not listening "for."
35
81000
2000
01:38
It's got no destination目的地 in mind心神 --
36
83000
2000
01:40
it's just enjoying享受 the journey旅程.
37
85000
2000
01:44
If you look at these two, eye contact聯繫, facing面對 each other,
39
89000
2000
01:46
possibly或者 both talking at the same相同 time.
40
91000
2000
01:48
(Laughter
41
93000
3000
01:51
Men男人, if you get nothing else其他 out of this talk,
42
96000
2000

01:55
and you can transform轉變 your relationships關係.

01:57
The trouble麻煩 with listening is that so much of what we hear
45
102000
3000
02:00
is noise噪聲, surrounding周圍 us all the time.
46
105000
3000
02:03
Noise噪聲 like this, according根據 to the European歐洲的 Union聯盟,

02:24
It's a really big problem問題.
57
129000
2000
02:26
Now, when you were little, if you had noise噪聲 and you didn't want to hear it,
58
131000
2000
02:28
you'd stick your fingers手指 in your ears耳朵 and hum.

02:37
is it brings帶來 three really big health健康 issues問題.
63
142000
3000
02:40
The first really big health健康 issue問題 is a word that Murray穆雷 Schafer謝弗 coined創造:
64
145000
3000
02:43
"schizophoniaschizophonia."
65
148000
2000
02:45
It's a dislocation錯位
66
150000
2000
02:47
between之間 what you see and what you hear.
67
152000
2000
02:49
So, we're inviting誘人的 into our lives生活
68
154000
2000
02:51
the voices聲音 of people who are not present當下 with us.
69
156000
3000
02:54
I think there's something deeply unhealthy不良
70
159000
2000
02:56
about living活的 all the time in schizophoniaschizophonia.
71
161000
2000
02:58
The second第二 problem問題 that comes with headphone耳機 abuse濫用
72
163000
2000
03:00
is compression壓縮.
73
165000
2000
03:02
We squash壁球 music音樂 to fit適合 it into our pocket口袋
74
167000
2000
03:04
and there is a cost成本 attached to this.
75
169000
2000
03:06
Listen to this -- this is an uncompressed未壓縮 piece of music音樂.

And now the same相同 piece of music音樂 with 98 percent百分 of the data數據 removed去除.

03:18
(Music
79
183000
4000
03:22
I do hope希望 that some of you at least最小
80
187000
2000
03:24
can hear the difference區別 between之間 those two.
81
189000
2000
03:26
There is a cost成本 of compression壓縮.
82
191000
2000
03:28
It makes品牌 you tired and irritable急躁 to have to make up all of that data數據.
83
193000
2000
03:30
You're having to imagine想像 it.
84
195000
2000
03:32
It's not good for you in the long run.
85
197000
2000
03:34
The third第三 problem問題 with headphones頭戴耳機 is this: deafness --
