Si një artist,
00:17
connection is very important to me.
1
2000
2000
lidhja është shumë e rëndësishme për mua.
00:19
Through my work I'm trying to articulate
2
4000
3000
Përmes punes sime të po përpiqem ta artikulojë
00:22
that humans are not separate from nature
3
7000
3000
00:25
and that everything is interconnected.
4
10000
3000
dhe se çdo gjë është e ndërlidhur.
00:29
I first went to Antarctica almost 10 years ago,
5
14000
2000
00:31
where I saw my first icebergs.
6
16000
2000
kur e pash ajsbergun e parë.
00:33
I was in awe.
7
18000
3000
Ishte e mrekullueshme.
00:36
My heart beat fast, my head was dizzy,
8
21000
3000
00:39
trying to comprehend what it was that stood in front of me.
9
24000
3000
00:42
The icebergs around me
10
27000
2000
Ajsberget rreth meje
00:44
were almost 200 feet out of the water,
11
29000
3000
ishin pothuajse 200 metra jashtë ujit,
00:47
and I could only help but wonder
12
32000
2000
dhe thosha me vehte se
00:49
that this was one snowflake
13
34000
2000
kjo është një fjollë bore
00:51
on top of another snowflake,
14
36000
2000
mbi një fjollë bore tjetër,
00:53
year after year.
15
38000
2000
vit pas viti.
00:55
Icebergs are born
16
40000
2000
Ajsberget lindin
00:57
when they calve off of glaciers
17
42000
3000
kur ata shkeputen nga akullnajat
01:00
or break off of ice shelves.
18
45000
3000
ose ndahen nga "raftet" e akujve.
01:05
Each iceberg has its own individual personality.
19
50000
4000
Secili ajsberg ka përsonalitetin individual të tij.
01:09
They have a distinct way
20
54000
2000
Kanë një menyrë të ndryshme
01:11
of interacting with their environment
21
56000
2000
të bashkëveprimit me ambientin e tyre
01:13
and their experiences.
22
58000
3000
dhe eksperiencat e tyre.
01:16
Some refuse to give up
23
61000
2000
Disa prej tyre refuzojnë të dorëzohen
01:18
and hold on to the bitter end,
24
63000
2000
dhe mbahen me zor,
01:20
while others can't take it anymore
25
65000
2000
gjersa të tjerat nuk durojnë më
01:22
and crumble in a fit of dramatic passion.
26
67000
4000
dhe shkatërrohen në më mënyrë dramatike.
01:26
It's easy to think, when you look at an iceberg,
27
71000
3000
01:29
that they're isolated,
28
74000
2000
se ato janë të izoluara,
01:31
that they're separate and alone,
29
76000
2000
01:33
much like we as humans sometimes view ourselves.
30
78000
3000
pothuajse sikurse ne njerëzit e shohim vetveten nganjëherë.
01:36
But the reality is far from it.
31
81000
2000
Mirëpo realiteti është shumë larg nga kjo.
01:38
As an iceberg melts,
32
83000
2000
Kur një ajsberg shkrihet,
01:40
I am breathing in
33
85000
2000
Unë thithi
01:42
its ancient atmosphere.
34
87000
2000
atmosferën e tij antike.
01:44
As the iceberg melts,
35
89000
2000
Kur ajsberget fillojnë të shkrinë,
01:46
it is releasing mineral-rich fresh water
36
91000
4000
01:50
that nourishes many forms of life.
37
95000
3000
që ushqen shumë forma të jetës.
01:54
I approach photographing these icebergs
38
99000
3000
Unë i bëj fotografime këtyre ajsbergve
01:57
as if I'm making portraits of my ancestors,
39
102000
3000
sikur jam duke i portretizuar paraardhësit e mi,
02:00
knowing that in these individual moments
40
105000
3000
02:03
they exist in that way
41
108000
2000
ata duken në atë menyrë
02:05
and will never exist that way again.
42
110000
2000
02:07
It is not a death when they melt;
43
112000
2000
Nuk është vdekje kur ata shkrihen;
02:09
it is not an end,
44
114000
2000
nuk është një përfundim,
02:11
but a continuation
45
116000
2000
por një vazhdim
02:13
of their path through the cycle of life.
46
118000
3000
02:21
Some of the ice in the icebergs that I photograph is very young --
47
126000
4000
02:25
a couple thousand years old.
48
130000
2000
pak mijëra vite e vjetër.
02:27
And some of the ice
49
132000
2000
Dhe disa prej akullit
02:29
is over 100,000 years old.
50
134000
3000
është mbi 100,000 vite e vjetër.
02:41
The last pictures I'd like to show you
51
146000
2000
Fotografitë e fundit që dëshiroj t'ua shfaqi
02:43
are of an iceberg that I photographed
52
148000
2000
janë të një ajsbergu që kam fotografuar
02:45
in Qeqetarsuaq, Greenland.
53
150000
3000
në Qeqetrasuqu, Greenland.
02:48
It's a very rare occasion
54
153000
2000
Është një moment shumë i rrallë
02:50
that you get to actually witness
55
155000
2000
që ju mund të jeni dëshmitar
02:52
an iceberg rolling.
56
157000
2000
të një ajsbergu në rrotullim.
02:54
So here it is.
57
159000
2000
Andaj ja ku është.
02:56
You can see on the left side a small boat.
58
161000
3000
02:59
That's about a 15-foot boat.
59
164000
3000
Kjo është rreth 4.5 metra.
03:02
And I'd like you to pay attention
60
167000
2000
Dëshiroj që ju të keni vemendjen
03:04
to the shape of the iceberg
61
169000
2000
tek forma e ajsbergut
03:06
and where it is at the waterline.
62
171000
3000
dhe ku është në vijën e ujit.
03:09
You can see here, it begins to roll,
63
174000
2000
Ju mund ta shihni këtu, fillon të rrotullohet,
03:11
and the boat has moved to the other side, and the man is standing there.
64
176000
2000
03:13
This is an average-size Greenlandic iceberg.
65
178000
3000
03:16
It's about 120 feet above the water,
66
181000
3000
Është rreth 40 metra mbi ujin,
03:19
or 40 meters.
67
184000
2000
apo 40 metra.
03:21
And this video is real time.
68
186000
2000
Dhe kjo video është në kohë reale.
03:23
(Music)
69
188000
8000
(Muzika)
03:52
And just like that,
70
217000
2000
Dhe mu kështu,
03:54
the iceberg shows you a different side of its personality.
71
219000
3000
03:58
Thank you.
72
223000
2000
Faliminderit.
04:00
(Applause)
