Why grow homes? Because we can.

1000
3000
Pse te rrisim shtepi? Sepse eshte e mundur.
00:19
Right now, America is in an unremitting state of trauma.
1
4000
3000
Ne kete moment Amerika eshte ne gjendje traume.
00:22
And there's a cause for that, all right.
2
7000
2000
Ka nje arsye per kete, sigurisht.
00:24
We've got McPeople, McCars, McHouses.
3
9000
3000
Kemi McNjerezit, McMakinat, McShtepite.
00:27
As an architect, I have to confront something like this.
4
12000
3000
Si arkitekt, me duhet te perballem me kete gje.
00:30
So what's a technology that will allow us
5
15000
2000
Pra, cila eshte ajo teknologji qe do te na lejoje
00:32
to make ginormous houses?
6
17000
2000
te bejme shtepi gjigande?
00:34
Well, it's been around for 2,500 years.
7
19000
3000
Eh mire, ka ekzistuar qe prej 2500 vjetesh.
00:37
It's called pleaching, or grafting trees together,
8
22000
3000
Quhet shartim i pemeve se bashku,
00:40
or grafting inosculate matter into one contiguous, vascular system.
9
25000
3000
ose bashkim i dy sistemeve vaskulare ngjitur,
00:43
And we do something different
10
28000
2000
Ne bejme dicka ndryshe
00:45
than what we did in the past;
11
30000
2000
nga ajo qe kemi bere me pare.
00:47
we add kind of a modicum of intelligence to that.
12
32000
2000
I shtojme nje sasi te vogel inteligjence.
00:49
We use CNC to make scaffolding
13
34000
2000
Kemi bere llogaritjet per te ndertuar skelen
00:51
to train semi-epithetic matter, plants,
14
36000
2000
per te detyruar lenden semi-epitetike, bimet
00:53
into a specific geometry
15
38000
2000
ne nje forme gjeometrike specifike.
00:55
that makes a home that we call a Fab Tree Hab.
16
40000
3000
per te krjuar nje shtepi qe e kemi quajtur "Banim Bimor Gjenial".
00:58
It fits into the environment. It is the environment.
17
43000
2000
I pershtatet mjedisit. Eshte mjedisi.
01:00
It is the landscape, right?
18
45000
2000
Eshte peisazhi, apo jo?
01:02
And you can have a hundred million of these homes,
19
47000
2000
Dhe mund te prodhohen njeqind milione nga keto shtepi.
01:04
and it's great because they suck carbon.
20
49000
2000
dhe eshte mire, sepse thithin gazin karbonik.
01:06
They're perfect.
21
51000
2000
Jane perfekte.
01:08
You can have 100 million families, or take things out of the suburbs,
22
53000
3000
Mund te strehosh 100 milion familje ose te pastrosh periferite e qytetit,
01:11
because these are homes that are a part of the environment.
23
56000
3000
sepse keto shtepi jane pjese e mjedisit natyral.
01:14
Imagine pre-growing a village --
24
59000
2000
Imagjino te fillosh te rrisesh nje fshat --
01:16
it takes about seven to 10 years --
25
61000
2000
duhen 7 deri ne 10 vjet --
01:18
and everything is green.
26
63000
3000
dhe gjithcka eshte gjelber.
01:21
So not only do we do the veggie house,
27
66000
3000
Nuk bejme vetem shtepi bimore,
01:24
we also do the in-vitro meat habitat,
28
69000
3000
po ashtu dhe banime me baze mishi ne laborator,
01:27
or homes that we're doing research on now in Brooklyn,
29
72000
3000
ose rastet qe po studiojme per momentin,
01:30
where, as an architecture office, we're for the first of its kind
30
75000
3000
ne studion e arkitektures ne Brooklyn, dhe jemi te paret
01:33
to put in a molecular cell biology lab
31
78000
3000
qe kemi instaluar nje laborator te biologjise molekulare
01:36
and start experimenting with regenerative medicine
32
81000
2000
per te bere kerkime ne fushen e mjekesise rigjeneruese
01:38
and tissue engineering
33
83000
2000
dhe inxhinierse se fibrave
01:40
and start thinking about what the future would be
34
85000
2000
dhe filluam te mendojme se cila do te ishte e ardhmja
01:42
if architecture and biology became one.
35
87000
2000
nese arkitektura dhe biologjia behen nje.
01:44
So we've been doing this for a couple of years, and that's our lab.
36
89000
3000
Kemi dy vjet qe po bejme kete, ja laboratori yne.
01:47
And what we do is we grow
37
92000
2000
Dhe ajo qe bejme eshte qe ne rrisim
01:49
extracellular matrix from pigs.
38
94000
2000
inde ekstracelulare nga derrat.
01:51
We use a modified inkjet printer,
39
96000
2000
Perdorim nje printer te modifkuar.
01:53
and we print geometry.
40
98000
2000
dhe printojme forma gjeometrike.
01:55
We print geometry where we can make industrial design objects
41
100000
3000
Ne printojme forma gjeometrike e mund te bejme objekte te dizajnit industrial
01:58
like, you know, shoes, leather belts,
42
103000
2000
si, kepuce, rripa lekure,
02:00
handbags, etc.,
43
105000
2000
canta, etj.,
02:02
where no sentient creature is harmed.
44
107000
2000
ku gjerat e gjalla nuk jane demtuar.
02:04
It's victimless. It's meat from a test tube.
45
109000
2000
S'ka viktima. Eshte mish ne epruvete.
02:06
So our theory is that eventually
46
111000
2000
Teoria jone eshte qe me ne fund
02:08
we should be doing this with homes.
47
113000
2000
duhet te jemi ne gjendje te bejme te njejten gje edhe me shtepite.
02:10
So here is a typical stud wall,
48
115000
2000
Pra ky eshte nje mur tipik,
02:12
an architectural construction,
49
117000
2000
nje konstruksion arkitektonik,
02:14
and this is a section
50
119000
2000
dhe ky eshte nje seksion
02:16
of our proposal for a meat house,
51
121000
2000
i propozimit per shtepine prej mishi,
02:18
where you can see we use fatty cells as insulation,
52
123000
2000
ku ju shihni qe kemi perdorur qelizat dhjamore si izolues,
02:20
cilia for dealing with wind loads
53
125000
2000
qerpiket per te perballuar eren
02:22
and sphincter muscles for the doors and windows.
54
127000
3000
dhe muskujt unazore per dyert dhe dritaret.
02:25
(Laughter)
55
130000
3000
(Te qeshura)
02:28
And we know it's incredibly ugly.
56
133000
2000
Dhe e dime qe eshte shume e shemtuar.
02:30
It could have been an English Tudor or Spanish Colonial,
57
135000
3000
Mund te ishte nje stil Tudor Anglez apo stil Spanjoll Kolonial,
02:33
but we kind of chose this shape.
58
138000
2000
por e zgjodhem vete kete forme.
02:35
And there it is kind of grown, at least one particular section of it.
59
140000
3000
Dhe eshte rritur, te pakten nje pjese e vecante e saj.
02:38
We had a big show in Prague,
60
143000
2000
Kemi bere nje ekspozite te madhe ne Prage,
02:40
and we decided to put it in front of the cathedral
61
145000
2000
dhe vendosem ta veme perpara katedrales
02:42
so religion can confront the house of meat.
62
147000
3000
ne menyre qe feja te takohej me shtepine prej mishi.
02:45
That's why we grow homes. Thanks very much.
63
150000
2000
Ja pse i rrisim shtepite. Faleminderit te gjitheve.
02:47
(Applause)
