strewn about our morning papers,
izkaisītus rīta laikraksta slejās,
of our sisters, spouses, small children.
māsām, sievām un maziem bērniem.
kad viņa jautās, jo noteikti gribēs zināt,
when she asks, as she certainly should,
we didn't own it outright.
tā mums līdz galam nepiederēja.
for every way we used our privates
darīt ar saviem dzimumorgāniem,
that enforced them.
kas likumus ieviesa.
par šo karalaiku,
vēl viens tāds pats;
against the outlines of our fallen,
and moved with courageous abandon
un drosmīgi devāmies prom,
ducked and parried,
tvērām zeltu hidžābā, vācām nāves draudus,
collected death threats,
and found a running mate,"

shamed nothing but fear,

that we were women,
ka esam sievietes,
visā nopietnībā.
and some of us did not,
bet citas ne,
whether that made us real
vai tas mūs darīja īstākas,
or heir to your triumph,
atvase vai triumfa mantiniece –,
teetering towards woman,
pati kļūstot par sievieti,
Were you fearful or fearsome?
Vai biji bailīga vai bezbailīga?
in the year it was time?
gadā, kad bija pienācis laiks?
which bones had to break?
par šo man sagatavoto ceļu?
un vai ar tevi viss kārtībā, mamm?
about the arc of your brow,
already carried so much, wants to know
esi pūlējusies, grib zināt,
what light did you keep from extinction?
kādu liesmu paglābi no izdzišanas.
or were you roused?
ko darīji ar tev sniegto izdevību?
what did you do with your privilege?
or directly into the flame?
vai uzskatīji tās par apgrūtinājumu?
or treat it like a liability?
of "nasty" or "less than"?
„nejauka” un „mazāk vērta”?
or a clenched fist?
vai sažņaugtu dūri?
Lai tā ir tava dzīve.
drawn on my face like a dagger,
un nogrieza telpas gabalu tev.”
in spite of crooked odds.
par spīti netaisnībai.
in the company of courage,
when you just had yourself.
and the sisters beside them,
un māsas viņām blakus,
