espallados nas páxinas dos xornais,
strewn about our morning papers,
cónxuxes, fillos pequenos.
of our sisters, spouses, small children.
pregunte, que sen dúbida o fará,
when she asks, as she certainly should,
we didn't own it outright.
no que alugamos a liberdade,
for every way we used our privates
dábamos ás nosas cousas
que as impoñían.

encollernos e cubrirnos,
tempo de guerra,
contra os restos dos nosos caídos,
against the outlines of our fallen,
"Por suposto que importamos"
e nos movemos con valente abandono
and moved with courageous abandon

Fuches temerosa ou temible?

in the year it was time?
que ósos tiveches que romper?
which bones had to break?
Estás ben, mamá?
about the arc of your brow,
o arco da túa cella,
already carried so much, wants to know
fixeches tanto, quere saber
que luz salvaches da extinción.
what light did you keep from extinction?
or were you roused?
que fixesches cos teus privilexios?
what did you do with your privilege?
directamente as lapas?
or directly into the flame?
or treat it like a liability?
considerábalas unha carga?
of "nasty" or "less than"?
"despreciable" ou "menos que"?
or a clenched fist?
co puño pechado?
Faino durante toda a vida.
drawn on my face like a dagger,
coma un puñal,
contra todo pronóstico.
in spite of crooked odds.
in the company of courage,
na compaña da valentía,
te tiñas a ti mesma.
when you just had yourself.
irmás xunto a elas,
and the sisters beside them,
