all I could think of was,
til we sat onstage for TED?"
să spună asta pe scenă la TED?"
supposed to see that picture.
s-o vadă.
actually, it was an accident.
de fapt.
just taking some time for myself,
where I've been checking my status
to see how far along I'm going --
ca să văd cum avansează sarcina...
și prietenilor, poate?
I have just been saving it,
you press the wrong button and --
apeși butonul greșit și...
my phone doesn't ring that much --
telefonul meu nu prea sună —
I missed like four calls,
erau patru apeluri pierdute
and I was like, oh no.
just five or six more days -- that's OK.
cinci sau șase zile, dar e OK.
Serena, because it only said 20 weeks,
ești în săptămâna 20,
a whole lot of information on it.
what I've been doing all this time.
I'd just take a picture and save it,
făceam o poză și o salvam,
când mi-a scăpat.
When you heard the news,
Când ai auzit vestea te-ai bucurat?
Were you afraid? Were you worried?
the beginning of the Australian Open,
de deschiderea turneului Australian Open,
turnee de Grand Slam.
two days before, and I knew.
to just focus right there
să mă concentrez
sometimes in the first 12 weeks or so,
undeva în primele 12 săptămâni,
Ms. Williams, you won.
dar ați și câștigat.
turneu de Grand Slam câștigat!
for another handicap, so ... no.
knowing you were pregnant?
știind că ești însărcinată?
about people when they're pregnant,
despre persoane însărcinate,
and so I haven't.
and they get really stressed out,
like I didn't have time
any extra anything,
nimeni nu știa
orice turneu la care particip.
it's actually much bigger news.
that's a big story.
e o știre importantă.
I had to really take anything negative
tot ce era rău
that I was feeling at that point
în acel moment
what the next step for me to do was.
în continuare.
You have a lot of love.
multă dragoste.
m-au oprit nişte oameni la aeroport.
people stopped me at the airport.
„Ghiciți unde mă duc?"
the pilot, "Guess where I'm going?"
că e însărcinată!".
we're so glad she's pregnant."
these cranky Yankees.
despre Ilie Năstase,
was telling me about Ilie Nastase,
deplasate, chiar rasiste.
dare I say racial things.
to dignify what he said,
very inappropriate comments,
foarte deplasate
chiar mi-am încurajat colegii
really supportive of my peers
de aproape 20 de ani
to hold women up,
să susțin femeile
they'll want to take pictures with me,
să se fotografieze cu mine,
și un bun exemplu pentru ele.
and a good example for them.
to say about me and my peers,
despre mine și colegii mei,
for us to stand up for each other
să ne sprijinim unii pe alții
really important for me to say,
a fost foarte important să spun
I'm not going anywhere,
a place for everything.
wasn't the time and the place.
și nici timpul.
că nu pleci nicăieri,
you're not going anywhere,
36 de ani și vine bebelușul.
Baby's coming, 36.
age is always important,
că vârsta e mereu importantă,
that you're coming back.
Two years will she be gone?"
O să lipsească doi ani?”
to defy the odds, you know,
să sfidez neprevăzutul,
I'm not done yet.
N-am terminat încă.
and that's something that --
he's a little bit older than me
care e un pic mai mare decât mine
so I'm like, I know I can do that too.
așa că știu că pot și eu.
especially recently,
mai ales în ultima perioadă,
it's something I want to do.
how this is just a new part of my life,
not crying too much.
și nu va plânge prea mult.
letter to your baby yesterday
ieri pentru copilul tău
to the youngest one,
către mama mai tânără
I can't wait for you to get here.
abia aștept să ajungi acolo.
because I think about your life, Serena.
pentru că mă gândesc la tine, Serena.
in a six-month time:
de viață într-o perioadă de șase luni:
te-ai îndrăgostit.
your love life? Da da da."
E cam tocilar, cam ciudat.
He's a nerdy, kinda geeky guy.
to you about that, yes.
despre asta.
I said, "I know him!" He's awesome.
Iar eu am zis: „Îl știu!”. E extraordinar!
vreodată lângă un tocilar,
with a nerdy geek,
with you, I didn't either,
when others have failed?
this is the one for me?
and my mom says he's very considerate,
iar mama zice că este foarte grijuliu,
make a huge difference in life.
mult în viață.
we have a show every year,
avem o prezentare în fiecare an,
I was running around like crazy,
of this shirt that he had,
cu cămașa pe care o purta,
that I had the same one,

în mijlocul perioadei de antrenament
in the middle of my training season,

„Nu pot. Trebuie să câștig."
"No, I can't go to Rome." OK.
„Nu, nu pot să merg la Roma.”
on reaching my goals

pe care voiam să-l întrec.
that winning is addictive to you.
de victorie.
is superaddictive.
I was only 17 years old,
primul meu campionat,
of your first championship.
de la primul campionat.
in the world like that.
de pregătire,
is a wonderful experience.
e o experiență extraordinară.
like I loved that feeling,
the feeling of losing. I feel like --
sentimentul înfrângerii.
say you're a very bad loser.
că nu știi să pierzi.
în a accepta o înfrângere.
no champion likes to lose.
nu-i place să piardă.
you are very, very, very bad at it.
ești de-a dreptul groaznică.
so you know, that's all I can say.
și la înfrângeri.
between you and Venus,
dintre tine și Venus,
and has followed the story
și care ți-au urmărit cariera
in whatever you do,
when you're playing her,
because you want to do something for her
să faci ceva pentru ea
because you want to crush her.
pentru că vrei s-o înfrângi.
playing her or easier?
împotriva ei?
is like playing myself,
e ca și când aș juca cu mine,
we grew up practicing together.
antrenându-ne împreună.
that has been difficult,
the ball before I hit it,
înainte să o lovesc,
when I go out there,
and I have to say to myself,
și să îmi spun:
but today I have to be better.
dar azi trebuie să fiu mai bună.
if it's my sister or it's my friend,
dacă e sora sau prietena mea,
and I have to be better
than anyone else at this moment
decât oricine asta, în acest moment,
do you fall back for Venus?
nu-i dai un avantaj lui Venus?
it was always Venus and Serena.
has surpassed older sister.
a întrecut-o pe cea mare.
is always going to be Venus and Serena.
Venus și Serena.
she's my best friend,
cea mai bună prietenă
or else I would have shared them,
de foarte proastă calitate,
in a stroller on a tennis court,
pe terenul de tenis
money on the ice cream truck and stuff,
pe înghețată și fleacuri,
and give it to me at school
and she would go without,
iar ea nu își lua,
she actually is
respect for each other
extraordinar una pentru alta,
to realize you can be successful
să înțeleagă că poți avea succes
a wonderful relationship.

nu mi-a făcut nimic rău,
I'm the younger sister.
Sora cea mică.
anything bad to you? Really?
niciun rău? Chiar?
I can think of some stuff I've done bad.
câteva răutăți pe care le-am făcut.
to forget them.
și am uitat.
I know is very pure. I know that.
este foarte sinceră. Știu asta.
GK: Așa este.
to be superclose,
foarte apropiate
and we were always so close.
foarte apropiate.
the two of you don't get together

And I was just laughing at her.
Iar eu doar râdeam.
that we have, and like I said,
și cum spuneam
definitely mortal enemies,
and moments before, we're just --
ca și înainte, suntem doar...
because at the end of the day,
I've been playing forever,
I'll be playing in 50 years, say?
peste 50 de ani, nu?
There's never been anybody like you.
N-a mai fost nimeni ca tine.
never been anybody
gender and race the way you have,
așa cum ai reușit tu,
and the scrutiny that you have.
did you say, "I want to be like that"?
„Vreau să fiu ca ea?”
are looking at you

și mă bucur că ai pus-o.
and I'm glad you brought that up.
mereu să fiu cea mai bună
I always wanted to be the best,
trebuie să ai drept model pe cel mai bun.
you've got to emulate the best.
when I was really young,
turneele, de foarte mică,
I would see Monica Seles,
to a lot of the other players,
the technique that he did,
cu tehnica pe care o avea,
that to be the best,
să fii cel mai bun,
that are the best,
pe cei care sunt în top.
that's not at the top level.
nu muncește ca tine.
nobody works as hard as you.
GK: Așa am auzit și eu.
GK: That's what I heard.
