ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dyan deNapoli - Penguin expert
Call her "the Penguin Lady." Dyan deNapoli educates the world about these fascinating birds.

Why you should listen

While she was the Senior Penguin Aquarist at the New England Aquarium, Dyan deNapoli hand-raised dozens of penguin chicks, presented daily programs about penguins to aquarium visitors, and traveled the globe to work with penguin researchers in the field.

Now, as head of her own educational company, she frequently writes on penguin topics and has served as the onboard penguin expert and guest lecturer on cruise ships visiting the Galapagos Islands and Antarctica. She estimates she has taught about 250,000 people in the US and abroad about penguins.

For as long as I can remember,
0
0
3000
Desde que me entendo por gente,
00:18
I have felt a very deep connection
1
3000
2000
sinto uma ligação muito profunda
00:20
to animals and to the ocean.
2
5000
2000
com os animais e o oceano.
00:22
And at this age,
3
7000
2000
E nesta idade,
00:24
my personal idol
4
9000
2000
meu ídolo
00:26
was Flipper the dolphin.
5
11000
2000
era Flipper, o golfinho.
00:28
And when I first learned about endangered species,
6
13000
3000
00:31
I was truly distressed to know
7
16000
3000
me senti muito angustiada em saber
00:34
that every day animals were being wiped off the face of this Earth forever.
8
19000
4000
00:38
And I wanted to do something to help,
9
23000
2000
E eu queria fazer alguma coisa para ajudar,
00:40
but I always wondered,
10
25000
2000
mas sempre me perguntava,
00:42
what could one person possibly do to make a difference?
11
27000
3000
como uma pessoa poderia fazer a diferença?
00:45
And it would be 30 years,
12
30000
2000
E levou 30 anos,
00:47
but I would eventually get the answer to that question.
13
32000
3000
00:51
When these heartbreaking images of oiled birds
14
36000
3000
00:54
finally began to emerge from the Gulf of Mexico last year
15
39000
3000
começaram finalmente a emergir do Golfo do México no ano passado
00:57
during the horrific BP oil spill,
16
42000
2000
00:59
a German biologist by the name of Silvia Gaus
17
44000
2000
uma bióloga alemã chamada Silvia Gaus
01:01
was quoted as saying,
18
46000
2000
literalmente disse,
01:03
"We should just euthanize all oiled birds
19
48000
3000
"Deveríamos abater todas as aves petrolizadas
01:06
because studies have shown
20
51000
2000
porque estudos têm mostrado
01:08
that fewer than one percent of them
21
53000
2000
que menos de um por cento delas
01:10
survive after being released."
22
55000
2000
sobrevivem após serem soltas."
01:12
And I could not disagree more.
23
57000
3000
E eu não poderia discordar mais.
01:15
And in addition, I believe that every oiled animal
24
60000
3000
01:18
deserves a second chance at life.
25
63000
2000
merece uma segunda chance na vida.
01:20
And I want to tell you
26
65000
2000
E quero lhes contar
01:22
why I feel so strongly about this.
27
67000
2000
porque estou convencida disto.
01:24
On June 23rd, 2000,
28
69000
2000
Em 23 de junho de 2000,
01:26
a ship named the Treasure
29
71000
2000
um navio chamado "Treasure"
01:28
sank off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa,
30
73000
2000
01:30
spilling 1,300 tons of fuel,
31
75000
2000
derramando 1,300 toneladas de petróleo,
01:32
which polluted the habitats
32
77000
2000
que poluiu os habitats
01:34
of nearly half the entire world population
33
79000
3000
de quase metade de toda população mundial
01:37
of African penguins.
34
82000
3000
de pinguins africanos.
01:40
Now the ship sank between Robben Island to the south
35
85000
3000
01:43
and Dassen Island to the north.
36
88000
2000
e a ilha Dassen ao norte.
01:45
And these are two of the penguins' main breeding islands.
37
90000
3000
01:48
And exactly six years and three days earlier,
38
93000
3000
E exatamente seis anos e três dias antes
01:51
on June 20th, 1994,
39
96000
3000
em 20 de junho de 1994,
01:54
a ship named the Apollo Sea sank near Dassen Island,
40
99000
3000
um navio chamado "Apollo Sea" afundou próximo a ilha Dassen,
01:57
oiling 10,000 penguins --
41
102000
2000
cobrindo de petróleo 10.000 pinguins --
01:59
half of which died.
42
104000
3000
metade dos quais morreu.
02:02
Now when the Treasure sank in 2000,
43
107000
2000
Então quando o "Treasure" afundou em 2000,
02:04
it was the height of the best breeding season
44
109000
3000
era o auge da melhor temporada reprodutiva
02:07
scientists had ever recorded for the African penguin --
45
112000
3000
02:10
which at the time, was listed as a threatened species.
46
115000
3000
02:13
And soon, nearly 20,000 penguins
47
118000
3000
E logo, aproximadamente 20,000 pinguins
02:16
were covered with this toxic oil.
48
121000
3000
estavam cobertos com este óleo tóxico.
02:19
And the local seabird rescue center, named SANCCOB,
49
124000
3000
E o centro local de resgate de aves marítimas, chamado SANCCOB,
02:22
immediately launched a massive rescue operation --
50
127000
3000
iniciou imediatamente uma gigantesca operação de salvamento --
02:25
and this soon would become
51
130000
2000
e isso logo tornou-se
02:27
the largest animal rescue ever undertaken.
52
132000
3000
o maior salvamento de animais já empreendido.
02:30
Now at the time, I was working down the street.
53
135000
2000
Naquela época, eu trabalhava perto de casa.
02:32
I was a penguin aquarist at the New England Aquarium.
54
137000
3000
02:35
And exactly 11 years ago yesterday,
55
140000
4000
E há exatamente 11 anos completados ontem,
02:39
the phone rang in the penguin office.
56
144000
2000
o telefone tocou no escritório de pinguins.
02:41
And with that call, my life would change forever.
57
146000
3000
02:44
It was Estelle van der Meer calling from SANCCOB,
58
149000
3000
Era Estelle van der Meer ligando do SANCCOB,
02:47
saying, "Please come help.
59
152000
2000
dizendo, "Por favor venha ajudar.
02:49
We have thousands of oiled penguins
60
154000
2000
Temos milhares de pinguins cobertos de petróleo
02:51
and thousands of willing,
61
156000
2000
e milhares de voluntários
02:53
but completely inexperienced, volunteers.
62
158000
4000
dispostos mas completamente inexperientes.
02:57
And we need penguin experts to come train and supervise them."
63
162000
3000
03:00
So two days later,
64
165000
2000
Então dois dias depois,
03:02
I was on a plane headed for Cape Town
65
167000
2000
03:04
with a team of penguin specialists.
66
169000
3000
com uma equipe de especialistas em pinguins.
03:07
And the scene inside of this building
67
172000
2000
E o cenário dentro do prédio
03:09
was devastating and surreal.
68
174000
3000
era devastador e surreal.
03:12
In fact, many people compared it to a war zone.
69
177000
3000
03:15
And last week, a 10 year-old girl asked me,
70
180000
3000
03:18
"What did it feel like
71
183000
2000
"Como você se sentiu
03:20
when you first walked into that building
72
185000
2000
quando entrou pela primeira vez naquele prédio
03:22
and saw so many oiled penguins?"
73
187000
4000
e viu tantos pinguins cobertos de petróleo?"
03:26
And this is what happened.
74
191000
2000
E foi isto que aconteceu.
03:28
I was instantly transported
75
193000
2000
Fui instantaneamente transportada
03:30
back to that moment in time.
76
195000
2000
de volta àquele exato momento.
03:32
Penguins are very vocal birds
77
197000
2000
Pinguins são aves muito vocais
03:34
and really, really noisy.
78
199000
2000
e muito, muito barulhentas.
03:36
And so I expected to walk into this building
79
201000
3000
Então eu esperava entrar nesse prédio
03:39
and be met with this cacophony
80
204000
2000
e encontrar esta cacofonia
03:41
of honking and braying and squawking,
81
206000
2000
de grasnidos e zurros e guinchados,
03:43
but instead,
82
208000
2000
mas em vez disso,
03:45
when we stepped through those doors and into the building,
83
210000
3000
quando atravessamos aquelas portas e entramos no prédio,
03:48
it was eerily silent.
84
213000
3000
tudo estava assustadoramente silencioso.
03:52
So it was very clear
85
217000
2000
Então ficou muito claro que
03:54
these were stressed, sick, traumatized birds.
86
219000
3000
as aves estavam estressadas, doentes e traumatizadas.
03:57
The other thing that was so striking
87
222000
3000
Outra coisa muito impressionante
04:00
was the sheer number of volunteers.
88
225000
2000
era o grande número de voluntários.
04:02
Up to 1,000 people a day
89
227000
2000
Até 1,000 pessoas por dia
04:04
came to the rescue center,
90
229000
2000
iam ao centro de salvamento.
04:06
and eventually, over the course of this rescue,
91
231000
3000
E eventualmente, no decurso deste salvamento,
04:09
more than 12 and a half thousand volunteers
92
234000
3000
mais de 12 mil e quinhentos voluntários
04:12
came from all over the world to Cape Town
93
237000
2000
04:14
to help save these birds.
94
239000
2000
para ajudar a salvar estas aves.
04:16
And the amazing thing
95
241000
2000
E o incrível
04:18
was that not one of them had to be there --
96
243000
2000
era que nenhum deles precisava estar lá --
04:20
yet they were.
97
245000
2000
no entanto, estava.
04:22
So for the few of us that were there in a professional capacity,
98
247000
3000
04:25
this extraordinary volunteer response
99
250000
2000
esta extraordinária resposta voluntária
04:27
to this animal crisis
100
252000
2000
para esta crise animal
04:29
was profoundly moving and awe-inspiring.
101
254000
3000
era profundamente emocionante e inspiradora.
04:32
So the day after we arrived,
102
257000
2000
No dia seguinte à nossa chegada,
04:34
two of us from the aquarium were put in charge of room two,
103
259000
3000
04:37
and room two had more than 4,000 oiled penguins in it.
104
262000
4000
04:41
Now mind you, three days earlier,
105
266000
2000
Vejam bem, três dias antes,
04:43
we had 60 penguins under our care,
106
268000
2000
tínhamos 60 pinguins sob nossos cuidados.
04:45
so we were definitely overwhelmed
107
270000
2000
Estávamos totalmente sobrecarregados
04:47
and just a bit terrified -- at least I was.
108
272000
3000
04:50
Personally, I really didn't know
109
275000
2000
Pessoalmente, eu realmente não sabia
04:52
if I was capable of handling
110
277000
2000
se seria capaz de lidar
04:54
such a monstrous task.
111
279000
2000
com uma tarefa tão grandiosa.
04:56
And collectively,
112
281000
2000
E coletivamente,
04:58
we really didn't know if we could pull this off.
113
283000
3000
nós realmente não sabíamos se conseguiríamos
05:01
Because we all knew
114
286000
2000
Porque sabíamos
05:03
that just six years earlier,
115
288000
2000
que apenas seis anos antes,
05:05
half as many penguins had been oiled and rescued
116
290000
2000
05:07
and only half of them had survived.
117
292000
3000
e apenas metade deles sobreviveu.
05:10
So would it be humanly possible
118
295000
2000
Então seria humanamente possível
05:12
to save this many oiled penguins?
119
297000
2000
salvar este tanto de pinguins petrolizados?
05:14
We just did not know.
120
299000
2000
Nós simplesmente não sabíamos.
05:16
But what gave us hope
121
301000
2000
Mas o que nos deu esperança
05:18
were these incredibly dedicated and brave volunteers --
122
303000
4000
foram estes voluntários incrivelmente dedicados e corajosos --
05:22
three of whom here are force-feeding penguins.
123
307000
3000
05:25
And you may notice they're wearing very thick gloves.
124
310000
2000
05:27
And what you should know about African penguins
125
312000
3000
05:30
is that they have razor-sharp beaks.
126
315000
2000
05:32
And before long,
127
317000
2000
E em pouco tempo,
05:34
our bodies were covered head to toe
128
319000
2000
05:36
with these nasty wounds
129
321000
2000
com estes ferimentos desagradáveis
05:38
inflicted by the terrified penguins.
130
323000
2000
infligidos pelos aterrorizados pinguins
05:40
Now the day after we arrived,
131
325000
2000
Um dia após nossa chegada,
05:42
a new crisis began to unfold.
132
327000
2000
começou uma nova crise.
05:44
The oil slick was now moving north towards Dassen Island,
133
329000
4000
05:48
and the rescuers despaired,
134
333000
2000
e a equipe de salvamento desesperou-se,
05:50
because they knew if the oil hit,
135
335000
2000
05:52
it would not be possible to rescue any more oiled birds.
136
337000
3000
05:55
And there really were no good solutions.
137
340000
2000
E não havia realmente boas soluções.
05:57
But then finally,
138
342000
2000
Mas então finalmente,
05:59
one of the researchers threw out this crazy idea.
139
344000
2000
um dos pesquisadores lançou esta ideia maluca.
06:01
He said, "Okay, why don't we try and collect
140
346000
3000
06:04
the birds at the greatest risk of getting oiled" --
141
349000
2000
06:06
they collected 20,000 --
142
351000
2000
eles coletaram 20,000 --
06:08
"and we'll ship them 500 miles up the coast
143
353000
4000
"e nós as enviaremos 500 milhas pela costa acima
06:12
to Port Elizabeth in these open air trucks
144
357000
2000
até Porto Elizabeth nestes caminhões abertos
06:14
and release them into the clean waters there
145
359000
2000
e as soltamos lá em águas limpas
06:16
and let them swim back home."
146
361000
3000
06:19
(Laughter)
147
364000
4000
(Risos)
06:23
So three of those penguins -- Peter, Pamela and Percy --
148
368000
2000
Então três desses pinguins -- Peter, Pamela e Percy --
06:25
wore satellite tags,
149
370000
2000
usaram anilhas monitoradas via satélite.
06:27
and the researchers crossed their fingers and hoped
150
372000
2000
E os pesquisadores cruzaram os dedos e torceram
06:29
that by the time they got back home,
151
374000
2000
para que quando eles retornassem,
06:31
the oil would be cleaned up from their islands.
152
376000
2000
a ilha deles já estivesse livre do petróleo.
06:33
And luckily, the day they arrived,
153
378000
2000
06:35
it was.
154
380000
2000
estava.
06:37
So it had been a huge gamble, but it had paid off.
155
382000
3000
06:40
And so they know now
156
385000
2000
E eles sabem agora
06:42
that they can use this strategy
157
387000
2000
que podem usar esta estratégia
06:44
in future oil spills.
158
389000
2000
em futuros vazamentos de óleo.
06:46
So in wildlife rescue, as in life,
159
391000
3000
06:49
we learn from each previous experience,
160
394000
2000
nós aprendemos com cada experiência anterior,
06:51
and we learn from both our successes
161
396000
2000
e aprendemos tanto com nossos sucessos
06:53
and our failures.
162
398000
2000
como com nossos fracassos.
06:55
And the main thing learned
163
400000
2000
E o mais importante que aprendemos
06:57
during the Apollo Sea rescue in '94
164
402000
3000
durante o salvamento do "Apollo Sea" em 1994
07:00
was that most of those penguins had died
165
405000
2000
foi que a maioria daqueles pinguins morrera
07:02
due to the unwitting use
166
407000
2000
devido ao uso não intencional
07:04
of poorly ventilated
167
409000
2000
do transporte em caixas e caminhões
07:06
transport boxes and trucks --
168
411000
2000
mal ventilados --
07:08
because they just had not been prepared
169
413000
2000
porque eles não haviam sido preparados
07:10
to deal with so many oiled penguins at once.
170
415000
2000
07:12
So in these six years between these two oil spills,
171
417000
3000
07:15
they built thousands of these well-ventilated boxes,
172
420000
3000
eles construiram milhares dessas caixas bem ventiladas.
07:18
and as a result, during the Treasure rescue,
173
423000
3000
07:21
just 160 penguins died
174
426000
3000
apenas 160 pinguins morreram
07:24
during the transport process,
175
429000
2000
durante o processo de transporte,
07:26
as opposed to 5,000.
176
431000
2000
em oposição aos 5.000.
07:28
So this alone was a huge victory.
177
433000
2000
07:30
Something else learned during the Apollo rescue
178
435000
2000
Outra coisa aprendida durante o salvamento do "Apollo"
07:32
was how to train the penguins
179
437000
2000
foi como treinar os pinguins
07:34
to take fish freely from their hands,
180
439000
3000
para pegar peixe livremente pelas mãos,
07:37
using these training boxes.
181
442000
2000
usando estas caixas de treinamento.
07:39
And we used this technique again
182
444000
2000
E nós usamos esta técnica novamente
07:41
during the Treasure rescue.
183
446000
2000
durante o salvamento do "Treasure".
07:43
But an interesting thing was noted
184
448000
2000
Mas uma coisa interessante foi notada
07:45
during the training process.
185
450000
2000
durante o processo de treinamento.
07:47
The first penguins
186
452000
2000
Os primeiros pinguins
07:49
to make that transition to free feeding
187
454000
2000
07:51
were the ones that had a metal band on their wing
188
456000
3000
07:54
from the Apollo Sea spill six years earlier.
189
459000
3000
do vazamento do "Apollo Sea" seis anos antes.
07:57
So penguins learn
190
462000
2000
Portanto, pinguins aprendem
07:59
from previous experience, too.
191
464000
2000
com experiências anteriores também.
08:01
So all of those penguins
192
466000
2000
Assim todos aqueles pinguins
08:03
had to have the oil meticulously cleaned from their bodies.
193
468000
3000
tiveram seus corpos meticulosamente limpos do petróleo.
08:06
And it would take two people at least an hour
194
471000
3000
08:09
just to clean one penguin.
195
474000
2000
para limpar apenas um pinguim.
08:11
And when you clean a penguin,
196
476000
2000
E quando você limpa um pinguim,
08:13
you first have to spray it with a degreaser.
197
478000
2000
08:15
And this brings me to my favorite story
198
480000
2000
E isto me traz à minha história favorita
08:17
from the Treasure rescue.
199
482000
2000
do salvamento do "Treasure".
08:19
About a year prior to this oil spill,
200
484000
2000
Um ano antes deste derramamento de petróleo,
08:21
a 17 year-old student
201
486000
2000
um estudante de 17 anos
08:23
had invented a degreaser.
202
488000
2000
inventou um detergente.
08:25
And they'd been using it at SANCCOB with great success,
203
490000
3000
08:28
so they began using it during the Treasure rescue.
204
493000
3000
por isso eles começaram a utilizá-lo no salvamento do "Treasure".
08:31
But part way through, they ran out.
205
496000
3000
Mas à certa altura, o detergente acabou.
08:34
So in a panic, Estelle from SANCCOB called the student
206
499000
3000
08:37
and said, "Please, you have to make more."
207
502000
2000
08:39
So he raced to the lab
208
504000
2000
Ele correu para o laboratório
08:41
and made enough to clean the rest of the birds.
209
506000
3000
08:44
So I just think it is the coolest thing
210
509000
2000
Eu acho simplesmente incrível
08:46
that a teenager
211
511000
2000
que um adolescente
08:48
invented a product
212
513000
2000
tenha inventado um produto
08:50
that helped save the lives
213
515000
2000
que ajudou a salvar as vidas
08:52
of thousands of animals.
214
517000
2000
de milhares de animais.
08:54
So what happened to those 20,000 oiled penguins?
215
519000
3000
08:57
And was Silvia Gaus right?
216
522000
2000
E Silvia Gaus estava certa?
08:59
Should we routinely euthanize
217
524000
2000
Devemos rotineiramente abater
09:01
all oiled birds
218
526000
2000
todas as aves petrolizadas
09:03
because most of them are going to die anyway?
219
528000
2000
09:05
Well she could not be more wrong.
220
530000
3000
Bem ela não poderia estar mais equivocada.
09:08
After half a million hours
221
533000
2000
Depois de quinhentas mil horas
09:10
of grueling volunteer labor,
222
535000
3000
de fatigante trabalho voluntário
09:13
more than 90 percent of those oiled penguins
223
538000
2000
mais de 90 por cento desses pinguins petrolizados
09:15
were successfully returned to the wild.
224
540000
3000
foram devolvidos à natureza com sucesso.
09:18
And we know from follow-up studies
225
543000
2000
E sabemos através de estudos de acompanhamento
09:20
that they have lived just as long
226
545000
2000
que elas tem vivido tanto quanto
09:22
as never-oiled penguins,
227
547000
2000
pinguins que nunca foram petrolizados,
09:24
and bred nearly as successfully.
228
549000
3000
e reproduziram com quase tanto sucesso.
09:27
And in addition, about 3,000 penguin chicks
229
552000
3000
E ainda, cerca de 3.000 filhotes de pinguins
09:30
were rescued and hand-raised.
230
555000
2000
foram resgatados e criados por tratadores.
09:32
And again, we know from long-term monitoring
231
557000
3000
09:35
that more of these hand-raised chicks
232
560000
3000
09:38
survive to adulthood and breeding age
233
563000
2000
sobrevivem à fase adulta e de reprodução
09:40
than do parent-raised chicks.
234
565000
2000
do que filhotes criados pelos pais.
09:42
So, armed with this knowledge,
235
567000
2000
Então, munidos deste conhecimento,
09:44
SANCCOB has a chick-bolstering project.
236
569000
2000
09:46
And every year they rescue and raise abandoned chicks,
237
571000
3000
E todo ano eles resgatam e criam filhotes abandonados.
09:49
and they have a very impressive
238
574000
2000
E eles têm uma taxa muito impressionante
09:51
80 percent success rate.
239
576000
3000
de 80 por cento de sucesso.
09:54
And this is critically important
240
579000
2000
E isto é importantíssimo
09:56
because, one year ago,
241
581000
2000
porque, há um ano,
09:58
the African penguin was declared endangered.
242
583000
3000
10:01
And they could be extinct
243
586000
2000
E eles podem estar extintos
10:03
in less than 10 years,
244
588000
2000
em menos de 10 anos,
10:05
if we don't do something now to protect them.
245
590000
3000
10:08
So what did I learn
246
593000
2000
Então o que aprendi
10:10
from this intense and unforgettable experience?
247
595000
3000
com esta intensa e inesquecível experiência?
10:13
Personally, I learned
248
598000
2000
Pessoalmente, aprendi
10:15
that I am capable of handling so much more than I ever dreamed possible.
249
600000
3000
10:18
And I learned that one person
250
603000
2000
E aprendi que uma pessoa
10:20
can make a huge difference.
251
605000
2000
pode fazer uma imensa diferença.
10:22
Just look at that 17 year-old.
252
607000
2000
Veja esse menino de 17 anos.
10:24
And when we come together
253
609000
2000
E quando nos unimos
10:26
and work as one,
254
611000
2000
e trabalhamos como um só,
10:28
we can achieve extraordinary things.
255
613000
2000
podemos alcançar coisas extraordinárias.
10:30
And truly, to be a part of something
256
615000
2000
E sinceramente, ser parte de algo
10:32
so much larger than yourself
257
617000
2000
tão maior do que vocês mesmos
10:34
is the most rewarding experience
258
619000
2000
é a experiência mais gratificante
10:36
you can possibly have.
259
621000
3000
que vocês possivelmente possam ter.
10:39
So I'd like to leave you with one final thought
260
624000
2000
10:41
and a challenge, if you will.
261
626000
2000
e um desafio, se me permitirem.
10:43
My mission as the penguin lady
262
628000
2000
Minha missão como a dama dos pinguins
10:45
is to raise awareness and funding
263
630000
2000
é conscientizar e obter fundos
10:47
to protect penguins,
264
632000
2000
para proteger os pinguins,
10:49
but why should any of you care about penguins?
265
634000
3000
10:52
Well, you should care
266
637000
2000
Bem, vocês devem se preocupar
10:54
because they're an indicator species.
267
639000
2000
porque eles são uma espécie indicadora.
10:56
And simply put, if penguins are dying,
268
641000
2000
E simplesmente, se pinguins estão morrendo,
10:58
it means our oceans are dying,
269
643000
3000
significa que nossos oceanos estão morrendo,
11:01
and we ultimately will be affected,
270
646000
2000
e seremos por fim afetados,
11:03
because, as Sylvia Earle says,
271
648000
2000
porque, como Sylvia Earle diz,
11:05
"The oceans are our life-support system."
272
650000
3000
"Os oceanos são nosso sistema de suporte à vida."
11:08
And the two main threats to penguins today
273
653000
2000
E as duas principais ameaças aos pinguins hoje
11:10
are overfishing and global warming.
274
655000
2000
são a pesca predatória e o aquecimento global.
11:12
And these are two things
275
657000
2000
e estas são duas coisas
11:14
that each one of us
276
659000
2000
que cada um de nós
11:16
actually has the power to do something about.
277
661000
2000
11:18
So if we each do our part,
278
663000
2000
11:20
together, we can make a difference,
279
665000
3000
juntos, faremos a diferença,
11:23
and we can help keep penguins from going extinct.
280
668000
3000
11:26
Humans have always been the greatest threat to penguins,
281
671000
3000
11:29
but we are now their only hope.
282
674000
2000
mas agora somos sua única esperança.
11:31
Thank you.
283
676000
2000
Obrigada.
