3000
00:18
exploding爆炸 population人口, small planet行星;
2

3000
00:21
it's going to lead to ugly醜陋 things.

00:23
But I'm moving移動 past過去 Malthus馬爾薩斯,

00:30
Here's這裡的 why.
7
18000
2000
00:32
This is the U.N.'s population人口 data數據,
8
20000
2000
00:34
you may可能 have seen看到, for the world世界.
9
22000
3000
00:37
And the world's世界 population人口 expected預期 to top最佳 out
10
25000
2000
00:39
at something hopefully希望 a bit less than 10 billion十億, late晚了 this century世紀.
11
27000
4000
00:43
And after that, most likely容易 it's going to begin開始 to decline下降.
12
31000
4000
00:47
So what then?
13
35000
3000
00:50
Most of the economic經濟 models楷模 are built內置 around scarcity缺乏 and growth發展.
14
38000
3000
00:53
So a lot of economists
00:55
look at declining下降 population人口
16
43000
2000
00:57
and expect期望 to see stagnation停滯, maybe depression蕭條.
17
45000
3000
01:00
But a declining下降 population人口 is going to have
18

3000
01:03
at least最小 two very beneficial有利 economic經濟 effects效果.
19
51000
4000
01:07
One: fewer people on a fixed固定 amount of land土地
20
55000
5000
01:12
make investing投資 in property屬性 a bad bet賭注.
21
60000
4000
01:16
In the cities城市, a lot of the cost成本 of property屬性
22
64000
4000
01:20
is actually其實 wrapped包裹 up in its speculative投機 value.
23
68000
4000
01:24
Take away land土地 speculation推測,
24
72000
2000
01:26
price價錢 of land土地 drops滴劑.
25
74000
2000
01:28
And that begins開始 to lift電梯 a heavy burden負擔
26

2000
01:30
off the world's世界 poor較差的.
27
78000
3000
01:33
Number two: a declining下降 population人口
28
81000
4000
01:41
As wages工資 increase增加
31
89000
2000
01:43
that also lifts升降機 the burden負擔 on the poor較差的 and the working加工 class.
32
91000
5000
01:48
Now I'm not talking about a radical激進 drop下降 in population人口 like we saw in the Black黑色 Death死亡.
33
96000
4000
01:52
But look what happened發生 in Europe歐洲
