ABOUT THE SPEAKER
AJ Jacobs - Author
Immersing himself in alternate lifestyles and long, hilarious experiments (usually with himself the guinea pig), writer AJ Jacobs tests the limits of behavior, customs, culture, knowledge -- and his wife's sense of humor.

Why you should listen

AJ Jacobs' writings stand at the intersection of philosophy, Gonzo journalism and performance art. Stubbornly curious and slyly perceptive, he takes immersive learning to its irrational and profoundly amusing extreme -- extracting wisdom and meaning after long stints as a self-styled guinea pig. For his widely circulated Esquire article "My Outsourced Life," he explored the phenomenon of outsourcing by hiring a team in Bangalore to take care of every part of his life -- from reading his emails to arguing with his wife to reading bedtime stories to his own son. A previous article, "I Think You're Fat," chronicled a brief, cringe-inducing attempt to live his life in Radical Honesty, telling all the truth, all the time.

Jacobs is author of The Know-It-All, which documents the year he spent reading the Encyclopedia Britannica from A to Z, uncovering both funny and surprising factoids but also poignant insight into history and human nature. In 2007 he released The Year of Living Biblically, in which he attempted to follow every single rule in the Bible as literally as possible for an entire year. His recent book The Guinea Pig Diaries: My Life as an Experiment is a collection of numerous personal experiments. including living according to George Washington's rules of conduct, outsourcing every single task to India, and posing as a woman on an online dating site.

the article文章 was called, "I Think You're Fat脂肪."

34
112000
4000
02:12
(Laughter
35
116000
1000
02:13
It's a very exciting令人興奮 twist扭曲 ending結束, like an O. Henry亨利 novel小說, so I won't唔會 ruin破壞 it.
36
117000
4000
02:17
But I love that one,
37
121000
2000
02:19
because that was an experiment實驗 about how much information信息
38
123000
4000
02:23
one human人類 brain大腦 could absorb吸收.
39
127000
2000
02:25
Although雖然, listening to Kevin凱文 Kelly凱利, you don't have to remember記得 anything.
40
129000
4000
02:29
You can just Google谷歌 it.
41
133000
2000
02:31
So, I wasted嘥晒 some time there.
42
135000
2000
02:33
I love those experiments
43
137000
3000
02:36
but I think that the most profound深刻
44
140000
2000
02:38
and life-changing改變生活 experiment實驗 that I've done
45
142000
4000
02:42
is my most recent最近 experiment實驗, where I spent a year
46
146000
4000
02:46
trying試圖 to follow遵循 all of the rules規則 of the Bible聖經,
47
150000
3000
02:49
"The Year of Living生活 Biblically聖經."
48
153000
2000
02:52
And I undertook承諾 this for two reasons原因.
49
156000
3000
02:55
The first was that I grew增長 up with no religion宗教 at all.
50
159000
4000
02:59
As I say in my book, I'm Jewish猶太 in the same相同 way
51
163000
4000
03:03
the Olive橄欖 Garden花園 is Italian意大利文.
52
167000
2000
03:05
(Laughter
53
169000
2000
03:07
So, not very.
54
171000
2000
03:09
But I've become成為 increasingly越黎越 interested興趣 in religion宗教.
55
173000
3000
03:12
I do think it's the defining定義 issue個問題 of our time,
56
176000
2000
03:14
or one of the main主要 ones.
57
178000
2000
03:16
And I have a son. I want to know what to teach him.
58
180000
3000
03:19
So, I decided決定 to dive潛水 in head first, and try to live the Bible聖經.
59
183000
4000
03:24
The second第二 reason原因 I undertook承諾 this is because
60
188000
3000
03:27
I'm concerned有關 about the rise上升 of fundamentalism原教旨主義,
61
191000
3000
03:30
religious宗教 fundamentalism原教旨主義, and people who say
62
194000
3000
03:33
they take the Bible聖經 literally從字面上, which is, according根據 to some polls民意調查,
63
197000
3000
03:36
as high as 45 or 50 percent百分比 of America美國.
64
200000
3000
03:40
So I decided決定, what if you really did take the Bible聖經 literally從字面上?
65
204000
4000
03:44
I decided決定 to take it to its logical邏輯 conclusion結論
66
208000
4000
03:48
and take everything in the Bible聖經 literally從字面上,
67
212000
2000
03:50
without picking and choosing選擇.
68
214000
3000
03:53
The first thing I did was I got a stack堆棧 of bibles聖經.
69
217000
3000
03:56
I had Christian基督教 bibles聖經.
70
220000
2000
03:58
I had Jewish猶太 bibles聖經.
71
222000
2000
04:00
A friend朋友 of mine sent me something called a hip-hop嘻哈 bible聖經,
72
224000
3000
04:03
where the twenty-third第二十三 Psalm詩篇 is rendered呈現 as, "The Lord is all that,"
73
227000
4000
04:07
as opposed反對 to what I knew it as, "The Lord is my shepherd牧羊人."
74
231000
4000
04:11
Then I went down and I read several幾個 versions版本,
75
235000
4000
04:15
and I wrote down every single law法律 that I could find.
76
239000
3000
04:18
And this was a very long list列表 -- over 700 rules規則.
77
242000
4000
04:23
And they range範圍 from the famous著名 ones that I had heard聽到 of --
78
247000
3000
04:26
The Ten Commandments, love your neighbor鄰居, be fruitful富有成果 and multiply.
79
250000
3000
04:29
So I wanted to follow遵循 those.
80
253000
2000
04:31
And actually講真, I take my projects項目 very seriously嚴重,
81
255000
3000
04:34
because I had twins孖寶 during my year,
82
258000
2000
04:36
so I definitely絕對 take my projects項目 seriously嚴重.
83
260000
3000
04:39
But I also wanted to follow遵循 the hundreds數以百計
84
263000
3000
04:42
of arcane神秘 and obscure模糊 laws法律 that are in the Bible聖經.
85
266000
3000
04:45
There is the law法律 in Leviticus,
86
269000
2000
04:47
"You cannot唔可以 shave剃鬚 the corners角落 of your beard鬍子."
87
271000
2000
04:49
I didn't know where my corners角落 were,
88
273000
2000
04:51
so I decided決定 to let the whole整個 thing grow成長,
89
275000
3000
04:54
and this is what I looked like by the end結束.
90
278000
2000
04:57
As you can imagine想象, I spent a lot of time at airport機場 security安全.
91
281000
4000
05:01
(Laughter
92
285000
2000
05:03
My wife妻子 wouldn't唔會 kiss me for the last two months.
93
287000
3000
05:06
So, certainly梗係 the challenge挑戰 was there.
94
290000
2000
05:08
The Bible聖經 says you cannot唔可以 wear穿 clothes made作出 of mixed混合 fibers纖維,
95
292000
5000
05:13
so I thought, "Sounds聽上去 strange奇怪, but I'll try it."
96
297000
2000
05:15
You only know if you try it.
97
299000
2000
05:17
I got rid擺脫 of all my poly-cotton聚棉 T-shirtst 卹衫.
98
301000
3000
05:20
The Bible聖經 says that if two men男人 are in a fight戰鬥,
99
304000
4000
05:24
and the wife妻子 of one of those men男人 grabs抓住 the testicles睾丸 of the other man,
100
308000
6000
05:30
then her hand shall be cutcut off.
101
314000
2000
05:32
So, I wanted to follow遵循 that rule規則.
102
316000
2000
05:34
(Laughter
103
318000
1000
05:35
That one I followed黎緊 by default默認,
104
319000
3000
05:38
by not getting得到 in a fight戰鬥 with a man whose wife妻子 was standing nearby附近,
105
322000
4000
05:42
looking like she had a strong grip.
106
326000
2000
05:45
(Laughter
107
329000
2000
05:48
So -- oh, there's another另一個 shot拍攝 of my beard鬍子.
108
332000
3000
05:52
I will say it was an amazing驚人 year
109
336000
2000
05:54
because it really was life changing, and incredibly令人難以置信 challenging挑戰.
110
338000
3000
05:57
And there were two types類型 of laws法律 that were particularly特別 challenging挑戰.
111
341000
3000
06:00
The first was avoiding避免 the little sins that we all commit提交 every day.
112
344000
4000
06:04
You know, I could spend a year not killing,
113
348000
2000
06:06
but spending支出 a year not gossiping說閑話, not coveting覬覦, not lying --
114
350000
5000
06:11
you know, I live in New新增功能 York約克, and I work as a journalist記者,
115
355000
3000
06:14
so this was 75, 80 percent百分比 of my day I had to do it.
116
358000
5000
06:19
But it was really interesting有趣, because I was able to make some progress進展,
117
363000
5000
06:24
because I couldn't唔可以 believe how much
118
368000
2000
06:26
my behavior行為 changed my thoughts思想.
119
370000
3000
06:29
This was one of the huge巨大 lessons of the year,
120
373000
2000
06:31
is that I almost爭 D pretended假裝 to be a better person,
121
375000
3000
06:34
and I became成為 a little bit of a better person.
122
378000
3000
06:37
So I had always thought, you know, "You change your mind介意,
123
381000
5000
06:42
and you change your behavior行為," but it's often經常 the other way around.
124
386000
3000
06:45
You change your behavior行為, and you change your mind介意.
125
389000
5000
06:50
So, you know, if you want to become成為 more compassionate富有同情心,
126
394000
3000
06:53
you visit訪問 sick生病 people in the hospital醫院,
127
397000
2000
06:55
and you will become成為 more compassionate富有同情心.
128
399000
2000
06:57
You donate捐贈 money to a cause原因,
129
401000
2000
06:59
and you become成為 emotionally情緒 involved涉及 in that cause原因.
130
403000
3000
07:02
So, it really was cognitive認知 psychology心理學 --

07:05
you know, cognitive認知 dissonance失調 -- that I was experiencing經歷.
132
409000
3000
07:08
The Bible聖經 actually講真 talks會談 about cognitive認知 psychology心理學,
133
412000
3000
07:13
In the Proverbs諺語, it says that if you smile微笑, you will become成為 happier快樂,
135
417000
4000
07:17
which, as we know, is actually講真 true真係.
136

07:20
The second第二 type類型 of rule規則 that was difficult困難 to obey服從

07:24
was the rules規則 that will get you into a little trouble唔該

07:30
And perhaps或者 the clearest清晰 example例子 of this is stoning石工 adulterers姦婬.
140
434000
5000
07:35
(Laughter
141
439000
1000
07:36
But it's a big part部分 of the Bible聖經,
142
440000
4000
07:40
so I figured I had to address地址 it.
143
444000
2000
07:43
So, I was able to stone石頭 one adulterer通姦.
144
447000
2000
07:45
It happened發生 -- I was in the park公園, and I was dressed穿著 in my biblical聖經 clothing,
145
449000
5000
07:50
so sandals涼鞋 and sort排序 of a white白色 robe長袍,
146
454000
3000
07:53
you know, because again, the outer affects影響 the inner.
147
457000
2000
07:55
I wanted to see how dressing敷料 biblically聖經 affected影響 my mind介意.
148
459000
3000
07:59
And this man came up to me and he said,
149
463000
2000
08:01
"Why are you dressed穿著 like that?"
150
465000
2000
08:03
And I explained解釋 my project項目,
151
467000
2000
08:05
and he said, "Well, I am an adulterer通姦, are you going to stone石頭 me?"
152
469000
3000
08:08
And I said, "Well, that would be great!"
153
472000
3000
08:11
(Laughter
154
475000
4000
08:16
And I actually講真 took out a handful of stones石頭 from my pocket個袋入面
155
480000
5000
08:21
that I had been carrying承載 around for weeks禮拜,
156
485000
2000
08:23
hoping希望 for just this interaction互動 -- and, you know, they were pebbles石春 --
157
487000
4000
08:27
but he grabbed抓住 them out of my hand.
158
491000
3000
08:30
He was actually講真 an elderly老人 man, mid-中期-70s, just so you know.
159
494000
3000
08:33
But he's still an adulterer通姦, and still quite都幾 angry.
160
497000
2000
08:35
He grabbed抓住 them out of my hand
161
499000
2000
08:37
and threw them at my face塊面, and I felt覺得 that I could --
162
501000
3000
08:40
eye眼睛 for an eye眼睛 -- I could retaliate報復, and throw one back at him.
163
504000
4000
08:44
So that was my experience經驗 stoning石工, and it did allow允許 me
164
508000
3000
08:47
to talk about, in a more serious嚴重 way, these big issues個問題.
165
511000
5000
08:52
How can the Bible聖經 be so barbaric野蠻 in some places地方,
166
516000
4000
08:56
and yet尚未 so incredibly令人難以置信 wise明智 in others?
167
520000
2000
08:59
How should we view视图 the Bible聖經?
168
523000
2000
09:01
Should we view视图 it, you know, as original源語言 intent意圖,
169
525000
2000
09:03
like a sort排序 of a Scalia斯卡利亚 version版本 of the Bible聖經?
170
527000
4000
像是一種Scalia(美國大法官)式的聖經?
09:08
How was the Bible聖經 written?
171
532000
2000
09:10
And actually講真, since因為 this is a tech技術 crowd人群,
172
534000
2000
09:12
I talk in the book about how the Bible聖經 actually講真 reminds me
173
536000
4000
09:16
of the Wikipedia維基百科, because it has all of these authors作者 and editors編輯
174
540000
3000
09:19
over hundreds數以百計 of years.
175
543000
2000
09:21
And it's sort排序 of evolved進化.
176
545000
2000
09:23
It's not a book that was written and came down from on high.
177
547000
3000
09:28
So I thought I would end結束 by telling話畀 you
178
552000
4000
09:32
just a couple夫婦 of the take-aways採取-成日, the bigger lessons
179
556000
3000
09:35
that I learned from my year.
180
559000
2000
09:38
The first is, thou shalt not take the Bible聖經 literally從字面上.
181
562000
4000
09:42
This became成為 very, very clear清楚, early早期 on.
182
566000
3000
09:45
Because if you do, then you end結束 up acting代理 like a crazy person,
183
569000
3000
09:48
and stoning石工 adulterers姦婬, or -- here's呢度有 another另一個 example例子.
184
572000
3000
09:51
Well, that's another另一個. I did spend some time shepherding牧羊.
185
575000
5000
09:56
(Laughter
186
580000
1000
09:57
It's a very relaxing放鬆 vocation職業. I recommend推薦 it.
187
581000
3000
10:01
But this one is -- the Bible聖經 says that you cannot唔可以 touch women婦女
188
585000
4000
10:05
during certain一定 times of the month, and more than that,
189
589000
3000
10:08
you cannot唔可以 sit on a seat座位 where a menstruating經期 woman女人 has sat.
190
592000
3000
10:12
And my wife妻子 thought this was very offensive進攻,
191
596000
2000
10:14
so she sat in every seat座位 in our apartment公寓,
192
598000
2000
10:16
and I had to spend much of the year standing
193
600000
3000
10:19
until直到 I bought my own自己 seat座位 and carried進行 it around.
194
603000
6000
10:25
So, you know, I met遇到 with creationistscreationists.
195
609000
4000
10:29
I went to the creationists'creationists' museum
196
613000
2000
10:31
And these are the ultimate最終 literalistsliteralists.
197
615000
2000
10:33
And it was fascinating迷人, because they were not stupid愚蠢 people at all.
198
617000
3000
10:36
I would wager that their佢哋 IQ智商 is exactly完全 the same相同 as the average平均 evolutionist進化論.
199
620000
3000
10:39
It's just that their佢哋 faith信仰 is so strong
200
623000
3000
10:42
in this literal文字 interpretation解釋 of the Bible聖經
201
626000
2000
10:44
that they distort扭曲 all the data數據 to fit their佢哋 model模型.
202
628000
4000
10:49
And they go through透過 these amazing驚人 mental心理 gymnastics體操 to accomplish完成 this.
203
633000
4000
10:53
And I will say, though雖然, the museum博物館 is gorgeous華麗.
204
637000
5000
10:58
They really did a fantastic夢幻般 job工作.
205
642000
2000
11:00
If you're ever in Kentucky
11:01
there's, you can see a movie電影 of the flood洪水,
207
645000
3000
11:04
and they have sprinklers花灑 in the ceiling天花板
208
648000
2000
11:06
that will sprinkle on you during the flood洪水 scenes場景.
209
650000
4000
11:10
So, whatever無論 you think of creationism -- and I think it's crazy --
210
654000
3000
11:13
they did a great job工作.
211
657000
2000
11:16
(Laughter
212
660000
2000
11:18
Another另一個 lesson is that thou shalt give thanks多謝.
213
662000
4000
11:22
And this one was a big lesson because I was praying
214
666000
4000
11:26
giving these prayers祈禱 of thanksgiving感恩節, which was odd奇怪 for an agnostic不可知論者.
215
670000
4000
11:30
But I was saying thanks多謝 all the time, every day,
216
674000
4000
11:34
and I started初時 to change my perspective視角.
217
678000
3000
11:37
And I started初時 to realize實現 the hundreds數以百計 of little things
218
681000
3000
11:40
that go right every day, that I didn't even notice通知,
219
684000
4000
11:44
that I took for granted授予, as opposed反對 to focusing聚焦
220
688000
2000
11:46
on the three or four that went wrong.
221
690000
3000
11:50
So, this is actually講真 a key關鍵 to happiness幸福 for me,
222
694000
2000
11:53
is to just remember記得 when I came over here,
223
697000
2000
11:55
the car架車 didn't flip翻轉 over, and I didn't trip旅行 coming up the stairs樓梯.
224
699000
4000
11:59
It's a remarkable顯著 thing.
225
703000
2000
12:03
Third第三, that thou shall have reverence崇敬.
226
707000
2000
12:05
This one was unexpected意外 because I started初時 the year
227
709000
3000
12:08
as an agnostic不可知論者, and by the end結束 of the year,
228
712000
2000
12:10
I became成為 what a friend朋友 of mine calls調用 a reverent虔誠 agnostic不可知論者, which I love.
229
714000
5000
12:15
And I'm trying試圖 to start初時 it as a movement運動.
230
719000
2000
12:17
So, if anyone任何人 wants to join加入,
231
721000
2000
12:19
the basic基本 idea想法 is, whether係唔係 or not there is a God,
232
723000
3000
12:22
there's something important重要 and beautiful about the idea想法 of sacredness神聖,
233
726000
4000
12:26
and that our rituals儀式 can be sacred神聖.
234
730000
2000
12:28
The Sabbath安息日 can be sacred神聖.
235
732000
3000
12:31
This was one of the great things about my year, doing the Sabbath
236
735000
3000
12:34
because I am a workaholic, so having this one day
237
738000
4000
12:38
where you cannot唔可以 work, it really, that changed my life.
238
742000
3000
12:42
So, this idea想法 of sacredness神聖, whether係唔係 or not there is a God.
239
746000
4000
12:47
Thou shall not stereotype
12:49
This one happened發生 because
241
753000
2000
12:51
I spent a lot of time with various各種 religious宗教 communities社區
242
755000
3000
12:54
throughout整個 America美國 because I wanted it to be more
243
758000
2000
12:56
than about my journey旅程.
244
760000
2000
12:58
I wanted it to be about religion宗教 in America美國.
245
762000
3000
13:01
So, I spent time with evangelical福音派 Christians基督徒, and Hasidic哈西德 Jews猶太人, and the Amish阿米什.
246
765000
4000
13:05
I'm very proud驕傲 because
247
769000
2000
13:07
I think I'm the only person in America美國
248
771000
2000
13:09
to out Bible-talk聖經-傾偈 a Jehovah's耶和華嘅 Witness證人.
249
773000
3000
13:12
(Laughter
250
776000
1000
13:13
After three and a half一半 hours小時, he looked at his watch,
251
777000
3000
13:16
he's like, "I gotta go."
252
780000
2000
13:18
(Laughter
253
782000
2000
13:20
Oh, thank you very much.
254
784000
1000
13:25
Thank you. Bless保佑 you, bless保佑 you.
255
789000
1000
13:27
But it was interesting有趣
256
791000
2000
13:29
because I had some very preconceived先入為主 notions概念 about, for instance實例,
257
793000
3000
13:32
evangelical福音派 Christianity基督教, and I found發現 that
258
796000
4000
13:36
it's such a wide and varied不同 movement運動
259
800000
2000
13:38
that it is difficult困難 to make generalizations概括 about it.
260
802000
5000
13:44
There's a group I met遇到 with called the Red Letter Christians基督徒,
261
808000
3000
13:47
and they focus重點 on the red words的話 in the Bible聖經,
262
811000
3000
13:50
which are the ones that Jesus耶穌 spoke講嘢.
263
814000
2000
13:52
That's how they printed印刷 them in the old Bibles聖經.
264
816000
2000
13:54
And their佢哋 argument參數 is that Jesus耶穌 never talked談到 about homosexuality同性戀.
265
818000
5000
13:59
They have a pamphlet小冊子 that says,
266
823000
2000
14:01
"Here's呢度有 what Jesus耶穌 said about homosexuality同性戀,"
267
825000
2000
14:03
and you open打開 it up, and there's nothing in it.
268
827000
2000
14:06
So, they say Jesus耶穌 did talk a lot about helping幫手 the outcasts棄兒,
269
830000
6000
14:12
helping幫手 poor可憐 people.
270
836000
3000
14:15
So, this was very inspiring皷舞人心 to me.
271
839000
3000
14:19
I recommend推薦 Jim吉姆 Wallis沃利斯 and Tony托尼 CampoloCampolo.
272
843000
4000
Tony Campolo,
14:24
They're very inspiring皷舞人心 leaders領導人, even though雖然 I disagree反對
273
848000
4000
14:28
with much of what they say.
274
852000
2000
14:30
Also, thou shalt not disregard無視 the irrational非理性.
275
854000
3000
14:33
This one was very unexpected意外 because, you know,
276
857000
4000
14:37
I grew增長 up with the scientific科學 worldview世界觀,
277
861000
3000
14:40
and I was shocked震驚 learning學習 how much of my life
278
864000
7000
14:47
is governed治理 by irrational非理性 forces力量.
279
871000
3000
14:50
And the thing is, if they're not harmful有害,
280
874000
3000
14:54
they're not to be completely完全 dismissed炒魷.
281
878000
2000
14:56
Because I learned that -- I was thinking思維, I was
282
880000
4000
15:00
doing all these rituals儀式, these biblical聖經 rituals儀式,
283
884000
3000
15:03
separating分離 my wool and linen亚麻, and I would ask問吓 these religious宗教 people
284
887000
3000
15:07
"Why would the Bible聖經 possibly可能 tell us to do this? Why would God care護理?"
285
891000
4000
15:11
And they said, "We don't know,
286
895000
2000
15:13
but it's just rituals儀式 that give us meaning意義."
287
897000
4000
15:17
And I would say, "But that's crazy."
288
901000
2000
15:19
And they would say, "Well, what about you?
289
903000
2000
15:21
You blow打擊 out candles蠟燭 on top返回頁首 of a birthday生日 cake蛋糕.
290
905000
4000
15:26
If a guy from Mars火星 came down and saw, here's呢度有 one guy
291
910000
4000
15:30
blowing out the fire on top返回頁首 of a cake蛋糕
292
914000
4000
15:34
versus another另一個 guy not wearing穿 clothes of mixed混合 fabrics織物,
293
918000
4000
15:38
would the Martians火星 say, 'Well"好, that guy, he makes使 sense,
294
922000
4000
15:42
but that guy's友嘅 crazy?'"
295
926000
2000
15:44
So no, I think that rituals儀式 are, by nature自然, irrational非理性.
296
928000
5000
15:49
So the key關鍵 is to choose選擇 the right rituals儀式,
297
933000
3000
15:52
the ones that are not harmful有害 -- but rituals儀式 by themselves自己
298
936000
6000
15:58
are not to be dismissed炒魷.
299
942000
2000
16:01
And finally最後 I learned that thou shall pick選擇 and choose選擇.
300
945000
4000
16:05
And this one I learned because
301
949000
2000
16:07
I tried試過 to follow遵循 everything in the Bible聖經.
302
951000
2000
16:09
And I failed miserably.
303
953000
2000
16:11
Because you can't.
304
955000
2000
16:13
You have to pick選擇 and choose選擇. And anyone任何人 who follows遵循 the Bible聖經
305
957000
3000
16:16
is going to be picking and choosing選擇.
306
960000
2000
16:18
The key關鍵 is to pick選擇 and choose選擇 the right parts部分.
307
962000
5000
16:23
There's the phrase短語 called cafeteria自助餐廳 religion宗教,
308
967000
4000
16:27
and the fundamentalists原教旨主義 will use it in a denigrating way,
309
971000
4000
16:31
and they'll佢地會 say, "Oh, it's just cafeteria自助餐廳 religion宗教.
310
975000
2000
16:33
You're just picking and choosing
311
977000
1000
16:34
But my argument參數 is, "What's wrong with cafeterias自助餐廳?"
312
978000
4000
16:38
I've had some great meals at cafeterias
16:40
I've also had some meals that make me want to dry heave
314
984000
4000
16:44
So, it's about choosing選擇 the parts部分 of the Bible聖經 about compassion同情,
315
988000
3000
16:48
about tolerance寬容, about loving your neighbor鄰居,
316
992000
2000
16:51
as opposed反對 to the parts部分 about homosexuality同性戀 is a sin,
317
995000
5000
16:56
or intolerance容忍, or violence暴力,
318
1000000
2000
16:58
which are very much in the Bible聖經 as well.
319
1002000
2000
17:00
So if we are to find any meaning意義 in this book,
320
1004000
4000
17:04
then we have to really engage從事 it, and wrestle摔跤 with it.
321
1008000
4000
17:08
And I thought I'd end結束 with just a couple夫婦 more.
322
1012000
3000
17:11
There's me reading閲讀 the Bible聖經.
323
1015000
2000
17:13
That's how I hailed歡呼 taxicabs的士.
324
1017000
2000
17:15
(Laughter
325
1019000
3000
17:18
Seriously嚴重, and it worked工作. And yes,
326
1022000
2000
17:20
that was actually講真 a rented sheep,
327
1024000
3000
17:23
so I had to return返回 that in the morning早上, but it served服務 well for a day.
328
1027000
4000
17:28
So, anyway反正, thank you so much for letting me speak.
329
