00:31
And in that time we prototypedprototyped and builtbyggd,
7
19000
3000
00:34
in about threetre daysdagar, a systemsystemet that would allowtillåta

00:41
We tooktog what we knewvisste about AfricaAfrika,
11

2000
Vi tog vad vi visste om Afrika,
00:43
the defaultstandard deviceanordning,
12
31000
2000
den grundläggande apparaten,
00:45
the mobilemobil phonetelefon, as our commonallmänning denominatornämnare,
13
33000
2000
mobiltelefonen, som vår gemensamma nämnare,
00:47
and wentåkte from there.
14
35000
2000
och vi gick vidare.
00:49
We got reportsrapporter like this.
15
37000
3000
Vi fick rapporter som denna.
00:56
This is just a couplepar of them from JanuaryJanuari 17thth, last yearår.
16
44000
3000
01:02
And our systemsystemet was rudimentaryrudimentär. It was very basicgrundläggande.
17
50000
3000
Och vårt system var grundläggande. Det var mycket enkelt.
01:05
It was a mash-upmash-up that used datadata that we collectedsamlade in from people,
18
53000
3000
01:08
and we put it on our mapKarta.
19
56000
2000
01:10
But then we decidedbestämt we neededbehövs to do something more.
20
58000
2000
01:12
We neededbehövs to take what we had builtbyggd
21
60000
2000
Vi behövde ta det vi hade byggt
01:14
and createskapa a platformplattform out of it so that it could be used elsewherenågon annanstans in the worldvärld.
22
62000
3000
01:17
And so there is a teamteam of developersutvecklare
23
65000
3000
Det finns ett team av utvecklare
01:20
from all over AfricaAfrika, who are partdel of this teamteam now --
24
68000
3000
01:23
from GhanaGhana, from MalawiMalawi, from KenyaKenya.
25
71000
2000
från Ghana, från Malawi, från Kenya.
01:25
There is even some from the U.S.
26
73000
4000
Det finns även en del från USA.
01:29
We're buildingbyggnad for smartphonessmartphones, so that it can be used in the developedtagit fram worldvärld,
27
77000
3000
01:32
as well as the developingutvecklande worldvärld.
28
80000
2000
likväl som i utvecklingsvärlden.
01:34
We are realizinginse that this is truesann.
29
82000
2000
Vi inser att detta är sant.
01:36
If it worksArbetar in AfricaAfrika then it will work anywherevar som helst.
30
84000
2000
01:38
And so we buildbygga for it in AfricaAfrika first
31
86000
3000
01:41
and then we moveflytta to the edgeskanter.
32
89000
2000
och sedan flyttar vi ut mot kanterna.
01:43
It's now been deployedutplaceras in the DemocraticDemokratiska RepublicRepubliken of the CongoKongo.

Den blir just nu använd i Demokratiska Republiken Kongo.
01:46

01:57
But that's actuallyfaktiskt not what I'm here to talk about.
38
105000
2000
01:59
I'm here to talk about the nextNästa bigstor thing,
39
107000
2000
02:01
because what we're findingfynd out is that
40
109000
2000
eftersom vi upptäcker att
02:03
we have this capacitykapacitet to reportrapportera
41
111000
2000
vi har kapaciteten att rapportera
02:05
eyewitnessögonvittne accountskonton of what's going on in realverklig time.
42
113000
4000
ögonvittnesbeskrivningar av vad som händer, i realtid.
02:09
We're seeingseende this in eventsevenemang like MumbaiMumbai recentlynyligen,
43
117000
3000
02:12
where it's so much easierlättare to reportrapportera now
44
120000
2000
02:14
than it is to consumekonsumera it.
45
122000
2000
än vad det är att ta åt sig det.
02:16
There is so much informationinformation; what do you do?
46
124000
2000
02:18
This is the TwitterTwitter reportsrapporter for over threetre daysdagar
47
126000
3000
02:21
just coveringsom täcker MumbaiMumbai.
48
129000
2000
bara gällande Mumbai.
02:23
How do you decidebesluta what is importantViktig?
49
131000
2000
Hur bestämmer ni vad som är viktigt?
02:25
What is the veracitysanningshalten levelnivå of what you're looking at?
50
133000
3000
Vad är sanningshalten i det vi ser?
02:28
So what we find is that there is this
51
136000
2000
Vad vi upptäcker är att det finns
02:30
great dealhandla of wastedtill spillo crisiskris informationinformation
52
138000
2000
en stor del bortkastad krisinformation
02:32
because there is just too much informationinformation for us to
53
140000
3000
02:35
actuallyfaktiskt do anything with right now.
54
143000
3000
att faktiskt kunna göra något just nu.
02:38
And what we're actuallyfaktiskt really concernedbekymrad with
55
146000
2000
Vad vi faktiskt är mest bekymrade för
02:40
is this first threetre hourstimmar.
56
148000
2000
är dessa första tre timmar.
02:42
What we are looking at is the first threetre hourstimmar.
57
150000
2000
02:44
How do we dealhandla with that informationinformation that is comingkommande in?
58
152000
3000
Hur hanterar vi informationen som kommer in?
02:47
You can't understandförstå what is actuallyfaktiskt happeninghappening.
59
155000
2000
02:49
On the groundjord and around the worldvärld
60
157000
2000
På platsen och runt jorden
02:51
people are still curiousnyfiken,
61
159000
2000
är folk fortfarande nyfikna,
02:53
and tryingpåfrestande to figurefigur out what is going on. But they don't know.
62
161000
3000
och försöker klura ut vad som händer. Men de vet inte.
02:56
So what we builtbyggd of coursekurs, UshahidiUshahidi,
63
164000
3000
Så vad vi byggde var förstås, Ushahidi,
02:59
is crowdsourcingCrowdsourcing this informationinformation.
64
167000
2000
som källhänvisar informationen från folkmassan.
03:01
You see this with TwitterTwitter, too. You get this informationinformation overloadöverbelastning.
65
169000
3000
Ni ser detta med Twitter, också. Ni får ett överflöd av information.
03:04
So you've got a lot of informationinformation. That's great.
66
172000
2000
Ni har massor med information. Jättebra.
03:06
But now what?
67
174000
2000
Men vad händer sedan?
03:08
So we think that there is something interestingintressant we can do here.
68
176000
3000
03:11
And we have a smallsmå teamteam who is workingarbetssätt on this.
69
179000
2000
03:13
We think that we can actuallyfaktiskt createskapa
70
181000
2000
Vi tror att vi faktiskt kan bygga
03:15
a crowdsourcedCrowdsourcing filterfiltrera.
71
183000
2000
ett filter för att hänvisa folkmassan.
03:17
Take the crowdfolkmassan and applytillämpa them to the informationinformation.
72
185000
3000
Ta folkmassan och tillämpa dem på informationen.
03:20
And by ratingvärdering it and by ratingvärdering
73
188000
2000
03:22
the differentannorlunda people who submitlämna informationinformation,
74
190000
2000
personerna som skickar in information,
03:24
we can get refinedraffinerad resultsresultat
75
192000
2000
kan vi få förädlade resultat
03:26
and weightedvägda resultsresultat.
76
194000
2000
och avvägda resultat.
03:28
So that we have a better understandingförståelse
77
196000
2000
Så att vi har en bättre förståelse
03:30
of the probabilitysannolikhet of something beingvarelse truesann or not.
78
198000
2000
03:32
This is the kindsnäll of innovationinnovation that is,
79
200000
3000
Detta är den typ av uppfinning som,
03:35
quiteganska franklyuppriktigt sagt -- it's interestingintressant that it's comingkommande from AfricaAfrika.
80
203000
2000
03:37
It's comingkommande from placesplatser that you wouldn'tskulle inte expectförvänta.
81

3000
03:40

82

03:42
And it's a communitygemenskap around it that has decidedbestämt to buildbygga this.
83
210000
3000
03:45
So, thank you very much.
