in a festival toilet,
sam se krila u toaletu na festivalu,
na muzičkom festivalu,
because I couldn't even sit down,
zato što nisam mogla ni da sednem
I don't even need the toilet."
Čak ni ne moram u toalet.”
for a large charity on climate justice,
koja se bavi klimatskim promenama,
in climate change,
u klimatske promene;
kada je u pitanju aktivizam.
on climate justice
da potpišu peticiju o klimatskoj pravdi,
a bit more about the issue.
o ovom problemu.
and lots of inequality,
promena i društvenih nejednakosti,
and drained me of energy,
nervoznom i ispijenom.
because I'd be exhausted,
po toaletima zato što bih bila iscrpljena,
doubting my commitment to the cause,
u moju posvećenost cilju,
at the end of our shift,
had been signed,
of petitions signed
u broju sakupljenih potpisa
my little breaks in the toilet.
of the other activists,
na druge volontere,
the same amount of energy
ili istu količinu energije
of getting people to sign petitions,
going to watch the bands in the evening
zato što će uveče gledati nastupe bendova
to my tent and have a sleep,
da se vratim u šator i zaspim
completely wiped out,
that had the energy
na one koji su imali snage
as well, inside.
I'm an introvert,
seems to be favoring extroverts."
pogodnije za esktroverte.”
koji bi me iscrpljivali.
outside embassies or shops.
ispred ambasada ili prodavnica.
was around lots of people,
uključivala je mnoštvo ljudi,
it was performing.
to je bio nastup.
that that wasn't fair,
of the world's population are introverts,
i polovine svetske populacije,
because we burn out,
jer bismo pregoreli,
by activism and not do it,
interesovanje za aktivizam,
an activist in this world.
na ovom svetu.
it was particularly clever,
da je posebno pametno,
of the activism that worked
da dosta aktivizma
performing all the time.
koji nastupaju sve vreme.
was in the background,
obaviti bilo je u pozadini,
just being a campaigner,
I can do, really --
I've been a professional campaigner
profesionalno se bavim kampanjama
consultant for different charities
različitih dobrotvornih organizacija,
of activism that were needed.
oblici aktivizma koji su potrebni.
da eksperimentišem
I could engage with
bih se mogla pridružiti,
I was concerned about in campaigning.
koji su me zabrinjavali u kampanjama.
for Oxfam and other big charities,
za Oksfam i druge organizacije,
politicians and businesses
na političare i kompanije,
which ones didn't.
su prošle dobro, a koje nisu.
so I look at all of that stuff,
stoga sam ih sve pročitala
in social change in a different way,
u društvene promene na drugačiji način,
to be more beautiful, kind and just,
da svet bude lepši, bolji i pravedniji,
should be beautiful, kind and just,
da bude lep, dobar i pravedan,
about three ways
potrebni introverti.
but I'm just going to talk about three.
ali ću da govorim samo o ova tri.
activism is often very quick,
aktivizam je često veoma brz
response to injustice is,
ekstroverata na nepravdu
in our campaigning,
strateški u našoj kampanji,
those extrovert doers,
quiet introverts into activism.
tihe introverte u aktivizam.
kao što je ručni rad,
you have to do it slowly.
complex, messy social change issues
zamršenim problemima društvenih promena,
as a constituent,
while you're stitching away,
of what are your motives.
koji pokušava da izgleda savršeno?
that was mentioned before?
people in solidarity,
ljudima iz solidarnosti
which often isn't very ethical?
što često nije veoma etički?
in different places --
mestima na istoj skali -
slow form of activism,
they are often not heard.
you don't need eye contact with people.
da gledate ljude u oči.
next to someone or a group of people
pored neke osobe ili grupe ljudi
get time to ask people,
if you give them eye contact.
da pitaju direktno.
who are those big, deep thinkers,
da duboko razmišljaju
that you want to do
to što pokušavaš da uradiš,
that's about shaming people
koja se bavi posramljivanjem ljudi
these discussions in a very slow way,
polako voditi ove diskusije,
jer uspore i bolje promisle,
to slow down and think deeply,
for the introvert as well,
part of that movement for change,
osećaju kao da su deo pokreta,
through our activism,
kojima je naš aktivizam prožet,
just react in unethical ways.
reagovati na neetični način.
with art institutions
over 150 people at the V&A
u muzej Viktorije i Alberta
on a particular issue,
o određenom problemu,
or how it went, like this one.
ili o okupljanju, kao što je recimo ovo.
uvek trebaju introverti
that activism needs introverts
at intimate activism.
u intimnom aktivizmu.
at intimate activism,
when we're engaging power holders,
na moćnim pozicijama,
to people we disagree with,
što ćemo saslušati suprotno mišljenje,
not aggressive enemies.
a ne agresivni neprijatelji.
that I do a lot with introverts,
i vrištimo na njih,
like a bespoke handkerchief
kao, na primer, maramicu koja poručuje:
in your position of power.
imaju težak zadatak.
while we're making these gifts,
dok pravimo ove poklone.
kampanju za „Marks i Spenser”,
to implement the living wage.
da plate dnevne zarade.
bespoke handkerchiefs.
za svih 14 članova odbora.
to hand-deliver our gifts
da im predamo naše poklone
was that the chair of the board
predsednik odbora
of followers on Twitter,
pratilaca na Tviteru
u poslovnom svetu,
bila impresionirana,
biti poslodavac koji daje pristojnu platu,
to be a living wage employer,
amazing workers are working full time
sjajnih radnika rade puno radno vreme,
that we want you to be?"
kakav mi želimo da budete?”
form of activism.
and Valentine's cards to say,
za Dan zaljubljenih koje su poručivale:
to implement the living wage,
da počnete davati pristojne plate”
they'd announced to the media
objavili su novinarima
the independent living wage, and now --
dovoljne za samostalan život, te sada -
to work with them to be accredited,
kako bi postali ovlašćeni,
sastanak odbora u junu
discussions with the board members,
u četiri oka sa članovima odbora,
they loved their hankies
what we were doing,
standing outside screaming at them
ispred i vrištali na njih
tokom našeg protesta,
are really good at intimate activism
stvarno dobri u intimnom aktivizmu
to discuss with people,
o velikim, sočnim problemima,
we're trying to engage power holders,
da razgovarate sa moćnim ljudima,
with them all the time.
are really missing out
da aktivisti gube
can be half of the world's population,
čine polovinu svetske populacije,
that we're introvert,
da smo introverti
by saying what overwhelms us.
kada kažemo šta nas opterećuje.
texts in capital letters --
poruku napisanu velikim slovima -
and everything, she's fine --
i prilično je dobra -
it's capital letters, it's too much."
je velikim slovima; to mi je previše.”
the lovely text she sent me.
da pročitam poruku koju je poslala.
da te velika slova opterećuju,
letters overwhelm you,
to help us do intriguing activism
pomognu oko zanimljivih oblika aktivizma
rather than puts them off.
and brash giant posters
i napadni džinovski plakati
and vying for our attention.
i koji se nadmeću za našu pažnju.

sa ljudima širom sveta
of provocative street art
provokativne ulične umetnosti,
i koji su veoma mali
or telling them what to do.
niti im govore šta da rade.
to engage in different ways,
to be told what to do.
da mu se govori šta da radi.

intimate conversations and say,
razgovor u četiri oka i kažemo:
that climate change will affect,
na koje će klimatske promene da utiču,
of the solution, not the problem."
da budem deo rešenja, a ne problema.”
ne volimo da budemo u centru pažnje
like to be the center of attention,
klimatske promene uticati na to?”
and how will climate change affect it?"
instead of shop-lifting,
ostavljati stvari u prodavnicama.
with lovely stories on
na kojima su napisane divne priče
behind your clothes.
or is it a torturous one?
in little pockets in shops,
u džepiće odeće u prodavnicama.

offline campaigning
a ne ostavljaju nas iznemogle,
in an intriguing way online and offline.
kako onlajn, tako i oflajn.
that when you're planning a campaign,
kada planirate kampanju,
just as much as extroverts'.
koliko i veštine ekstrovertnih osoba.
and thinking deeply,
i dubljem razmišljanju,
we're really good at bringing them out.
so use us in that way.
stoga nas koristite na taj način.
create conversations and thought.
da se započne razgovor ili razmišljanje.
to turn into an extrovert and burn out,
u ekstroverta i pregorite,
veštine i osobine koje posedujete,
and the traits that you have
or an introvert or an ambivert,
introvert ili ambivert,
not to get involved.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Sarah Corbett - CraftivistSarah Corbett does activism in a quiet, humble and intriguing way using handicrafts.
Why you should listen
Sarah Corbett is a craftivist who teaches her "gentle protest" approach to individuals and organizations around the world. She also makes craftivism (craft + activism) projects and DIY kits for people who want to do a quieter, kinder and more beautiful form of effective activism than what is sometimes traditionally offered.
Growing up in a low-income area of the UK, Corbett has been involved in activism since she was three years old and has worked for more than a decade in the UK charity sector as a professional campaigner focusing on international development. But in 2008 she burnt out as an activist and introvert and wanted to find an effective way of campaigning that fitted her skills and ethics and personality. She set up the Craftivist Collective social enterprise in 2009 after people wanted to join in her new form of activism. Now there are craftivists around the world who take part in social change using handicrafts.
Corbett won the Sheila McKechnie award for Economic Justice campaigner of the Year 2016. Craftivist Collective won an Innovation Award from Care2 Impact Award 2016. She works with charities, arts institutions, universities and has exhibited her solo exhibition, "Gentle Protest," in Stockholm, Helsinki and London. She lives in East London and works worldwide.
