Filmed:

08:30
First, we don't know
how to deal合同 with rumors傳聞.

08:42
Second第二, we create創建 our own擁有 echo迴聲 chambers.
149

08:46
We tend趨向 to only communicate通信

08:49
and thanks謝謝 to social社會 media媒體,

09:03
All of us probably大概 know that.
154
531571
1687
09:05
It's as if we forget忘記

09:13
And fourth第四, it became成為 really hard
to change更改 our opinions意見.
158
541254

09:18
Because of the speed速度
and brevity簡短 of social社會 media媒體,
159
546309
3284
09:21
we are forced被迫 to jump to conclusions結論
160
549617
2934
09:24
and write sharp尖銳 opinions意見 in 140 characters人物

And once一旦 we do that,
it lives生活 forever永遠 on the Internet互聯網,

09:34
and we are less motivated動機

09:37
even when new evidence證據 arises出現.
165
565403

09:40
Fifth第五 -- and in my point of view視圖,
this is the most critical危急 --

are designed設計 in a way
167
572246
4304

09:57
It's as if we agreed約定 that

10:01
instead代替 of talking with each other.
172

10:05
I witnessed目擊 how these

10:13
Polarization極化 is on the rise上升
in the whole整個 world世界.
176
601601
3202
10:17
We need to work hard on figuring盤算 out
177
605325
2574
10:19
how technology技術 could be
part部分 of the solution,
178
607923
3321
10:23
rather than part部分 of the problem問題.
179
611268
2010
10:27
There's a lot of debate辯論 today今天
on how to combat戰鬥 online線上 harassment騷擾
180
615072
3340
10:30
and fight鬥爭 trolls巨魔.
181
618436
1222
10:31
This is so important重要.
182
619992
1468
10:33
No one could argue爭論 against反對 that.
183
621818
1853
10:36
But we need to also think about how
10:41
that promote促進 civility禮貌
and reward獎勵 thoughtfulness體貼.
185
629492
3179
10:45
I know for a fact事實
186
633512
1370
10:46
if I write a post崗位
that is more sensational轟動的,
187
634906
3216
10:50
more one-sided片面, sometimes有時
10:53
I get to have more people see that post
189
641681
2771
10:56
I will get more attention注意.
190
644791
1689
10:59
But what if we put more focus焦點 on quality質量?
191
647726
2264
11:03
What is more important重要:
192
651149
1225
11:04
the total number of readers讀者
of a post崗位 you write,
193
652398
2653
11:07
or who are the people who have impact碰撞
that read what you write?
194
655075
4621
11:12
Couldn't不能 we just give people more
incentives獎勵 to engage從事 in conversations對話,
195
660846
4366
11:17
rather than just broadcasting廣播
opinions意見 all the time?
196
665236
2667
11:20
Or reward獎勵 people for reading
197
668788
1398
11:22
and responding響應 to views意見
that they disagree不同意 with?
198
670210
2356
11:26
And also, make it socially社交上 acceptable接受
that we change更改 our minds頭腦,
199
674082
4713
11:30
or probably大概 even reward獎勵 that?
200
678819
1692
11:33
What if we have a matrix矩陣 that says
how many許多 people changed their minds頭腦,
201
681343
4149
11:37
and that becomes part部分
of our social社會 media媒體 experience經驗?
202
685516
3156
11:41
If I could track跟踪 how many許多 people
are changing改變 their minds頭腦,
203
689206
3077
11:44
I'd probably大概 write more
thoughtfully沉思地, trying to do that,
204
692307
3701
11:48
rather than appealing吸引人的 to the people
who already已經 agree同意 with me
205
696032
3705
11:51
and "liking喜歡" because I just
confirmed確認 their biases偏見.
206
699761
2561
11:55
We also need to think about effective
12:02
and reward獎勵 people who take part部分 in that.
209
710941
2290
12:05
In essence本質, we need to rethink反思
