ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Jeremy Gilley - Peace activist
Filmmaker Jeremy Gilley founded Peace One Day to create an annual day without conflict. And ... it's happening. What will you do to make peace on September 21?

Why you should listen

A day of peace. It seems lovely and hopeful to those of us lucky enough to live in peace already. But to those living in war, a day of peace, a temporary cease-fire, is not only lovely, it's incredibly practical. On a day when no bullets fly, families can go to the clinic, mosquito nets can be given out, and kids who've known only war can learn what peace looks like, sounds like. In short, it's a window of opportunity to build peace. For the past 10 years, filmmaker Jeremy Gilley has been promoting September 21 as a true international day of ceasefire, a day to carry out humanitarian aid in the world's most dangerous zones. The practical challenge is huge, starting with: how to convince both parties in a conflict to put down their weapons and trust the other side to do the same? But Gilley has recorded successes. For instance, on September 21, 2008, some 1.85 million children under 5 years old, in seven Afghan provinces where conflict has previously prevented access, were given a vaccine for polio.

On September 21, 2011, Gilley will start the 365-day-long countdown to Truce 2012, a hoped-for global day of guns-down ceasefire and worldwide action toward peace.

He says: "The only logical progression is to work towards a global cessation of hostilities on Peace Day -- from violence in our homes and schools, through to armed conflict."

But I realizedrealiziran that,
37

Ampak ugotovil sem,
01:41
havingimeti been messingmesijanski around with structurestrukturo as an actorigralec,
38
86000
2000
ker sem se kot igralec ukvarjal s strukturo,
01:43
that a seriesserije of soundzvok bitesugrizi in itselfsama wasn'tni bilo enoughdovolj,

01:48
there neededpotrebno to be a journeypotovanje that I had to take.

01:50
And if I tookvzel that journeypotovanje,

01:52
no matterzadevo whetherali it failedni uspelo or succeededuspelo, it would be completelypopolnoma irrelevantnepomemben.
43
97000
2000
ne bi bilo pomembno, ali uspem ali ne.
01:54
The pointtočka was that I would have something
44
99000
2000
Bistveno je bilo, da dobim nekaj,
01:56
to hookkavelj the questionsvprašanja of -- is humankindčloveštvo fundamentallytemeljito evilzlo?
45
101000
3000
na kar bi naslonil vprašanje: je človeštvo v osnovi zlobno?
01:59
Is the destructionuničenje of the worldsvet inevitableneizogibno? Should I have childrenotroci?
46
104000
2000
Je uničenje sveta neizogibno? Naj imam otroke?
02:01
Is that a responsibleodgovoren thing to do? EtcItd., etcitd.
47
106000
3000
Je to odgovorno? In tako naprej.
02:04
So I was thinkingrazmišljanje about peacemir,
48
109000
2000
Tako sem razmišljal o miru
02:06
and then I was thinkingrazmišljanje, well where'skje je the startingzačetek pointtočka for peacemir?
49
111000
2000
in se vprašal, kje se začne mir?
02:08
And that was when I had the ideaideja.
50
113000
2000
Takrat sem dobil zamisel.
02:10
There was no startingzačetek pointtočka for peacemir.
51
115000
2000
Ni začetne točke miru.
02:12
There was no day of globalglobalno unityenotnost.

02:14
There was no day of interculturalmedkulturni cooperationsodelovanje.
53
119000
2000
Ni dneva medkulturnega sodelovanja.
02:16
There was no day when humanityčloveštvo cameprišel togetherskupaj,
54
121000
2000
Ni dneva, ko bi se človeštvo združilo,
02:18

55
123000
2000
kljub različnosti v mnogih stvareh,
02:20
and just shareddeljeno it togetherskupaj --
56
125000
2000
in skupaj delilo -
02:22
that we're in this togetherskupaj,
57
127000
2000
da smo v tem vsi skupaj
02:24
and that if we unitedzdruženi and we interculturallymedkulturno cooperatedsodelovalo,
58
129000
3000
in da če bi se združili in sodelovali med kulturami,
02:27
then that mightmorda be the keyključ to humanity'sčloveštvo survivalpreživetje.
59
132000
2000
potem bi to morda bil ključ za preživetje človeštva.
02:29
That mightmorda shiftpremik the levelravni of consciousnesszavest
60
134000
2000
To bi morda spremenilo raven zavesti
02:31

61
136000
3000
o temeljnih vprašanjih človeštva,
02:34
if we did it just for a day.
62
139000
2000
če bi to storili samo za en dan.
02:36
So obviouslyočitno we didn't have any moneydenar.
63
141000
2000
Seveda nismo imeli denarja.
02:38
I was livingživeti at my mom'smama placemesto.

02:56
And I wanted it to be the 21stst of SeptemberSeptembra
71
161000
2000
Hotel sem, da bi bil 21. september,
02:58
because it was my granddad'sdedek je favoritenajljubši numberštevilka.
72
163000
2000
ker je bila to najljubša številka mojega dedka.
03:00
He was a prisonerzapornik of warvojna.
73
165000
2000
Bil je vojni ujetnik.
03:02
He saw the bombbomba go off at NagasakiNagasaki.

03:07
So he was like my herojunak.
76
172000
2000
Bil je moj junak.
03:09
And the reasonrazlog why 21 was the numberštevilka is
77

In razlog za številko 21:
03:11
700 menmoški left, 23 cameprišel back,

700 mož je odšlo, 23 se jih je vrnilo,

79
178000
2000
dva sta umrla na ladji in 21 jih je stopilo na kopno.
03:15
And that's why we wanted it to be the 21stst of SeptemberSeptembra as the datedatum of peacemir.
80
180000
3000
Zato sem kot datum hotel imeti 21. september.
03:18

In pravzaprav, naj se vrnem na tole sliko,

we invitedpovabljeni thousandstisoče of people.

No, ne na tisoče, na stotine ljudi, ogromno ljudi
04:17
all the presspritisnite, because we were going to try and createustvarite
106
242000

107
244000

04:21
And we invitedpovabljeni everybodyvsi,

04:25
There were 114 people there -- they were mostlyvečinoma my friendsprijatelji and familydružina.
110
250000
3000
Tam je bilo 114 ljudi - večinoma mojih prijateljev in sorodnikov.
04:28
And that was kindvrste of like the launchkosilo of this thing.
111
253000
2000
In to je bila nekakšna otvoritev.
04:30
But it didn't matterzadevo because we were documentingdokumentiranje, and that was the thing.
112
255000
3000
Ampak nič ne de, saj smo vse dokumentirali in to je bilo to.
04:33
For me, it was really about the processproces.
113
258000
2000
Z mojega vidika je v resnici šlo za proces.
04:35
It wasn'tni bilo about the endkonec resultrezultat.
114
260000
2000
Ni šlo za končni rezultat.
04:37
And that's the beautifullepo thing about the camerakamera.
115
262000
2000
In to je čudovita stran kamere.
04:39
They used to say the penpero is mightiermočnejši than the swordmeč. I think the camerakamera is.
116
264000
3000
Nekoč so rekli, da je pero močnejše od meča. Mislim, da je to kamera.
04:42
And just stayingostati in the momenttrenutek with it was a beautifullepo thing

I'm really clearjasno about how youngmladi people feel
146
333000
3000
Res mi je jasno, kako mladi razmišljajo,
05:51
when you talk to them about this ideaideja
147
336000
2000
ko jim govorimo o zamisli,

Vsem smo prisluhnili.
06:02
And it was an incrediblyneverjetno thing, workingdelo with the U.N.
152
347000
2000
Nekaj posebnega je bilo v tej akciji delati z Združenimi narodi
06:04
and workingdelo with NGOsNevladne organizacije and buildingstavbe this caseprimera.
153
349000

Čutil sem, da s tem delom

155
353000
2000
govorim v imenu globalne skupnosti,
06:10
to try and createustvarite this day.
156
355000
2000
z namenom ustvariti ta dan.
06:12
And the strongermočnejši the caseprimera and the more detailedpodrobne it was,
157
357000
2000
In močnejši in bolj podroben ko je postajal predlog,
06:14
the better chancepriložnost we had of creatingustvarjanje this day.
158
359000
3000
boljše možnosti smo imeli, da nam uspe doseči ta dan.
06:17
And it was this stuffstvari, this,
159
362000
3000
Tisto, o čemer sem na začetku
06:20
where I actuallydejansko was in the beginningzačetek
160
365000
2000
pravzaprav razmišljal, da ni pomembno,
06:22
kindvrste of thinkingrazmišljanje no matterzadevo what happenedse je zgodilo, it didn't actuallydejansko matterzadevo.
161
367000
2000
kaj se zgodi, to dejansko ni bilo pomembno.
06:24
It didn't matterzadevo if it didn't createustvarite a day of peacemir.
162
369000
2000
Ni bilo pomembno, ali mi uspe ustvariti dan miru ali ne.
06:26
The factdejstvo is that, if I triedposkušal and it didn't work,
163
371000
3000
Dejstvo je, da sem poskusil, in če ne bi delovalo,
06:29
then I could make a statementizjavo
164
374000
2000
bi lahko izjavil,
06:31
about how unwillingnočejo the globalglobalno communityskupnosti is to unitezdružiti --
165
376000
2000
da se svetovna skupnost noče poenotiti...
06:33
untildo, it was in SomaliaSomalija, pickingnabiranje up that youngmladi girlpunca.
166
378000
3000
dokler nisem - bilo je v Somaliji - v roke vzel te mlade punčke.
06:36
And this youngmladi childotrok
167
381000
2000
In ta mladi otrok,
06:38
who'dkdo bi takensprejeti about an inchpalčni and a halfpol out of her legnoge with no antisepticantiseptično,
168
383000
3000

06:41
and that youngmladi boyfant who was a childotrok soldiervojak,
169
386000

in fantek, ki je bil otroški vojak,
06:43
who told me he'dOn bi killedubil people -- he was about 12 --

ki mi je povedal, da je ubijal ... star je bil kakih 12 let...
06:46
these things madeizdelane me realizeuresničiti
171
391000
3000
zaradi teh stvari sem spoznal,
06:49
that this was not a filmfilm that I could just stop.
172
394000
3000
da ne gre za film, ki ga lahko enostavno ustavim.
06:52
And that actuallydejansko, at that momenttrenutek something happenedse je zgodilo to me,
173
397000
3000
In da se mi je takrat zgodilo nekaj,
06:55

2000
kar me je spodbudilo: "Dokumentiral bom.
06:57
If this is the only filmfilm that I ever make,
175
402000

Če je to edini film, ki ga bom kdajkoli naredil,
06:59
I'm going to documentdokument untildo this becomespostane a realityrealnost."
176
404000
3000
bom to dokumentiral, dokler ne postane resnično."
07:02
Because we'vesmo got to stop, we'vesmo got to do something
177
407000
3000
Kajti moramo se ustaviti, narediti moramo nekaj,
07:05
where we unitezdružiti --
178
410000
2000
kar nas bo združilo...

190
443000
4000
Ja, ampak za tem je stalo na stotine posameznikov, ki so idejo pomagali uresničiti.
07:42
And thank you to all of them.
191
447000
2000
Hvala vsem.
07:44
That was an incredibleneverjetno momenttrenutek.
192
449000
2000
To je bil neverjeten trenutek.
07:46
I was at the topna vrh of the GeneralSplošna AssemblySkupščina just looking down into it and seeingvidenje it happense zgodi.
193
451000
2000
Sedel sem na vrhu Generalne skupščine in gledal, kako se uresničuje.
07:48
And as I mentionedomenjeno, when it startedzačel,
194
453000
2000
Kot sem omenil, ko se je začelo,
07:50
we were at the GlobeGlobus, and there was no presspritisnite.
195
455000
2000
smo bili v "Globe" in mediji niso prišli.
07:52
And now I was thinkingrazmišljanje, "Well, the presspritisnite it really going to hearslišite this storyzgodba."
196
457000
3000
Zdaj pa sem si mislil: "No, mediji bodo vsekakor slišali to zgodbo."
07:55
And suddenlynenadoma, we startedzačel to institutionalizeinstitucionalizirati this day.

200
467000
2000
Ob osmih zjutraj sem bil tam.
08:04
And I was waitingčakanje for him to come down, and I knewvedel that he was on his way.
201
469000
3000
Čakal sem ga, da pride dol, in vedel sem, da je na poti.
08:07
And obviouslyočitno he never cameprišel down. The statementizjavo was never madeizdelane.
202
472000
3000
Seveda ni nikoli prišel. Do izjave ni prišlo.
08:10
The worldsvet was never told there was a day of globalglobalno ceasefirepremirje and nonviolencenenasilje.
203
475000
3000
Svet ni nikoli izvedel, da obstaja dan svetovnega premirja in nenasilja.
08:13
And it was obviouslyočitno a tragictragično momenttrenutek
204
478000
2000
To je bil seveda tragičen trenutek
08:15
for the thousandstisoče of people who lostizgubljen theirnjihovi livesživi,

480000
2000
za tisoče ljudi, ki so izgubili življenje,

"This is exactlytočno why, actuallydejansko,

2000
"Prav zato moramo v resnici
08:26
we have to work even hardertežje.
210
491000
3000
delati še bolj trdo.
08:29
And we have to make this day work.
211
494000
2000
Ta dan mora uspeti.
08:31
It's been createdustvarjeno; nobodynihče knowsve.
212
496000
2000
Ustanovljen je, a nihče ne ve zanj.
08:33
But we have to continuenadaljuj this journeypotovanje,
213
498000
2000
Toda nadaljevati moramo to potovanje
08:35
and we have to tell people,

2000
in povedati ljudem
08:37
and we have to provedokazati it can work."
215
502000

08:39
And I left NewNove YorkYork freakedprestrašila,
216
504000
2000
Iz New Yorka sem odšel prestrašen,
08:41
but actuallydejansko empoweredpooblaščeni.
217
506000
2000
a hkrati močnejši.
08:43
And I feltčutil inspirednavdihnjen
218
508000
2000
Počutil sem se navdihnjenega
08:45
by the possibilitiesmožnosti
219
510000
2000
zaradi vseh možnosti,
08:47
that if it did, then maybe we wouldn'tne bi see things like that.
220
512000
4000
ker če bi deloval, morda ne bi videvali takšnih stvari.
08:51
I rememberZapomni si puttingdajanje that filmfilm out and going to cynicscynics.
221
516000
2000
Spomnim se objave filma in soočenja s ciniki.
08:53

225
524000
3000
da je to samo en dan miru, to nič ne pomeni.
09:02
It's not going to work; you're not going to stop the fightingboj in AfghanistanAfganistan;

09:07
It's just symbolismsimboliko.
228
532000
2000
Gre samo za simbolizem.
09:09
And that was even worseslabše
229
534000
2000
To je bilo na nek način še hujše
09:11
than actuallydejansko what had just happenedse je zgodilo in manyveliko waysnačinov,

09:31
That's what I'd heardslišal.
238
556000
2000
To so mi pravili.
09:33
And I'd heardslišal that from the people who really understoodrazumel what conflictkonflikt was about.
239
558000
3000
In to sem slišal od ljudi, ki so res razumeli pomen konflikta.
09:36
And so I wentšla back to the UnitedVelika NationsNarodov.

247
576000
2000
in videti, ali je stvar uresničljiva.
09:53
And after lots and lots of meetingssrečanja obviouslyočitno,
248
578000
2000
Po mnogih opravljenih sestankih
09:55
I'm delightedvesel that this man, AhmadAhmad FawziMcmaco,
249
580000
2000
sem bil vesel, da je tale, Ahmad Fawzi,
09:57
one of my heroesjunaki and mentorsmentorji really,
250
582000
2000
eden mojih herojev in mentorjev,
09:59
he managedupravlja to get UNICEFUNICEF involvedvključeni.
251
584000
2000
uspel pritegniti UNICEF.
10:01
And UNICEFUNICEF, God blessblagoslovi them, they said, "Okay, we'llbomo have a go."
252
586000
2000
Pri UNICEF-u, bog jih blagoslovi, so obljubili: "Prav, poskusili bomo."
10:03
And then UNAMAUNAMA becamepostati involvedvključeni in AfghanistanAfganistan.
253
588000
2000
Potem je v Afganistanu začela delovati misija UNAMA.
10:05
It was historicalzgodovinski. Could it work in AfghanistanAfganistan
254
590000
2000
Bilo je zgodovinsko. Bi lahko v Afganistanu
10:07
with UNAMAUNAMA and WHO
255
592000
2000
stvar delovala s pomočjo misije UNAMA in Svetovne zdravstvene organizacije (WHO)

and civilcivilno societydružbo, etcitd., etcitd., etcitd.?
256
594000
2000
ter civilne družbe, itd., itd.?
10:11
And I was gettingpridobivanje it all on filmfilm and I was recordingsnemanje it,
257
596000
3000
Vse to sem snemal na filmski trak in dokumentiral
10:14
and I was thinkingrazmišljanje, "This is it. This is the possibilitymožnost of it maybe workingdelo.
258
599000
3000
in mislil sem si: "To je to. To je možnost, da bo mogoče delovalo.
10:17
But even if it doesn't, at leastvsaj the doorvrata is openodprto
259
602000
3000
Ampak tudi če ne bi, vsaj vrata so odprta
10:20
and there's a chancepriložnost."
260
605000
2000
in obstaja možnost."
10:22
And so I wentšla back to LondonLondon,
261
607000
2000
Tako sem se vrnil v London
10:24
and I wentšla and saw this chapCHAP, JudeJude LawPrava.
262
609000
2000
in šel obiskat tegale, Juda Lawa.
10:26
And I saw him because he was an actorigralec, I was an actorigralec,
263
611000
2000
Obiskal sem ga, ker je igralec, kot sem tudi jaz.
10:28
I had a connectionpovezavo to him,
264
613000
2000
Imel sem stik z njim
10:30
because we neededpotrebno to get to the presspritisnite, we neededpotrebno this attractionatrakcija,
265
615000
2000
in ker smo morali pritegniti medije, smo potrebovali to zvezdo,
10:32
we neededpotrebno the mediamediji to be involvedvključeni.
266
617000
2000
potrebovali smo vpletenost medijev.
10:34
Because if we startZačni pumpingčrpanje it up a bitbit maybe more people would listen
267
619000
3000
Kajti če bi stvar malo napihnili, bi morda več ljudi prisluhnilo
10:37
and there'drdeča be more --
268
622000
2000
in bilo bi več...
10:39
when we got into certainnekateri areasobmočja,
269
624000
2000
ko bi prišli na določena območja,
10:41
maybe there would be more people interestedzainteresirani.
270
626000
2000
bi morda vzbudili zanimanje več ljudi.
10:43
And maybe we'dBili bi be helpedpomagal financiallyfinančno a little bitbit more,
271
628000
2000
In morda bi dobili malo več finančne pomoči,
10:45
whichki had been desperatelyobupno difficulttežko.
272
630000
2000
kar je bilo izjemno težko,
10:47
I won'tne bo go into that.
273
632000
2000
ne bom se spuščal v to.
10:49
So JudeJude said, "Okay, I'll do some statementsizjave for you."
274
634000
2000
Jude je pristal: "Prav, posnel bom nekaj izjav zate."
10:51
While I was filmingsnemanje these statementsizjave, he said to me, "Where are you going nextNaslednji?"
275
636000
2000
Ko smo jih snemali, me je vprašal: "Kam greš od tu?"
10:53
I said, "I'm going to go to AfghanistanAfganistan." He said, "Really?"
276
638000
2000
Dejal sem: "V Afganistan grem." Rekel je: "Res?"
10:55
And I could sortRazvrsti of see a little look in his eyeoči of interestinteres.
277
640000
3000
In videl sem trohico zanimanja pri njem.
10:58
So I said to him, "Do you want to come with me?
278
643000
2000
Tako sem ga vprašal: "Bi šel z mano?
11:00
It'dTo bi be really interestingzanimivo if you cameprišel.
279
645000
2000
Bilo bi res zanimivo, če bi šel.
11:02
It would help and bringprinesi attentionpozornost.
280
647000
2000
Pomagalo bi pritegniti pozornost.
11:04
And that attentionpozornost
281
649000
2000
In ta pozornost
11:06
would help leveragevzvod the situationsituacija,
282
651000
2000
bi pomagala vplivati na situacijo
11:08
as well as all of the other sidesstrani of it."
283
653000
2000
in na vse druge plati."
11:10
I think there's a numberštevilka of pillarsstebri to successuspeh.
284
655000
2000
Mislim, da obstajajo številni stebri uspeha.
11:12
One is you've got to have a great ideaideja.
285
657000
2000
Eden od njih je imeti dobro idejo.
11:14
The other is you've got to have a constituencyvolilna enota, you've got to have financefinance,
286
659000
3000
Drugi je imeti dobro bazo, imeti morate finančna sredstva
11:17
and you've got to be ablesposoben to raisedvigni awarenessozaveščenost.
287
662000
2000
in sposobni morate biti ozaveščati.
11:19
And actuallydejansko I could never raisedvigni awarenessozaveščenost by myselfjaz, no matterzadevo what I'd achieveddoseženi.
288
664000
3000
Ljudi nikoli ne bi mogel ozaveščati sam, ne glede na to, kar sem dosegel.
11:22
So these guys were absolutelyabsolutno crucialključnega pomena.
289
667000
3000
Tako da so bili tile fantje odločilni.
11:25
So he said yes,
290
670000
2000
Pristal je
11:27
and we foundnajdemo ourselvessami in AfghanistanAfganistan.
291
672000
2000
in znašla sva se v Afganistanu.
11:29
It was a really incredibleneverjetno thing that when we landedpristal there,
292
674000
3000
Bilo je res neverjetno, toda ko sva se pojavila tam,
11:32
I was talkinggovoriti to variousrazlično people, and they were sayinggovoriti to me,
293
677000
3000
sem se pogovarjal z različnimi ljudmi in vsi so mi govorili:
11:35
"You've got to get everybodyvsi involvedvključeni here.
294
680000
2000
"Tukaj moraš vključiti vse.
11:37
You can't just expectpričakovati it to work. You have to get out and work."
295
682000
3000
Ne moreš kar računati, da bo delovalo. Ven moraš, na delo."
11:40
And we did, and we traveledpotoval around,
296
685000
3000
In sva šla, potovala sva naokoli,
11:43
and we spokegovoril to eldersstarešine, we spokegovoril to doctorszdravniki, we spokegovoril to nursesmedicinske sestre,

11:53
I mean, we basicallyv bistvu satsedel down with everybodyvsi --
301

Mislim, skoraj z vsemi sva se srečala...
11:56

304
705000
3000
ki so bile sedaj seveda polne novinarjev, vsi so bili tam.
12:03
There was an interestinteres in what was going on.
305
708000
2000
Ljudi je zanimalo, kaj se dogaja.
12:05
This amazingneverjetno womanženska, FatimaFatima GailaniGailani, was absolutelyabsolutno instrumentalinstrumentalne in what wentšla on
306
710000
4000
Ta izjemna ženska, Fatima Magalani, je bila ključna za celotno dogajanje,
12:09
as she was the spokespersonpredstavnica for the resistanceodpornost againstproti the RussiansRusi.
307
714000
3000
ker je bila tiskovna predstavnica upornikov proti Rusom.
12:12
And her AfghanAfganistanskih networkomrežje
308
717000
2000
In njena afganistanska mreža
12:14
was just absolutelyabsolutno everywherepovsod.
309
719000
2000
je bila čisto povsod.
12:16
And she was really crucialključnega pomena in gettingpridobivanje the messagesporočilo in.
310
721000
2000
In bila je res ključna za to, da smo predali sporočilo.
12:18
And then we wentšla home. We'dMi bi sortRazvrsti of doneKončano it.
311
723000
2000
In potem sva šla domov. Na nek način sva opravila svoje.
12:20
We had to wait now and see what happenedse je zgodilo.
312
725000
2000
Sedaj sva morala počakati in videti, kaj se bo zgodilo.
12:22
And I got home,
313
727000
2000
Vrnil sem se domov,
12:24
and I rememberZapomni si one of the teamekipa bringingprinaša in a letterpismo to me
314
729000
3000
in spomnim se, kako mi je sodelavec prinesel pismo,
12:27
from the TalibanTalibani.
315
732000
2000
ki so ga poslali talibani.
12:29
And that letterpismo basicallyv bistvu said, "We'llBomo observeopazujejo this day.
316
734000
3000
V njem je pisalo: "Obeležili bomo ta dan.
12:32
We will observeopazujejo this day.
317
737000
2000
Obeležili bomo ta dan.
12:34
We see it as a windowokno of opportunitypriložnost.
318
739000
2000
Vidimo ga kot priložnost.
12:36
And we will not engagesodelovati. We're not going to engagesodelovati."
319
741000
3000
In ne bomo se bojevali. Ne bomo se bojevali."
12:39
And that meantpomeni that humanitarianhumanitarno workersdelavce
320
744000
3000
In to je pomenilo, da ne bodo
12:42
wouldn'tne bi be kidnappedugrabil or killedubil.
321
747000
3000
ugrabili ali ubili humanitarnih delavcev.
12:45
And then suddenlynenadoma, I obviouslyočitno knewvedel at this pointtočka, there was a chancepriložnost.
322
750000
3000
In potem sem nenadoma na tej točki seveda vedel, da obstaja možnost.
12:48
And daysdnevi laterpozneje,
323
753000
2000
Čez nekaj dni
12:50
1.6 millionmilijonov childrenotroci were vaccinatedcepljeni againstproti poliopolio
324
755000
3000
so 1.6 milijona otrok cepili proti otroški paralizi,
12:53
as a consequenceposledica of everybodyvsi stoppingustavi.
325
758000
2000
kot posledico tega, da so se vsi ustavili.
12:55
(ApplauseAplavz)
326
760000
10000
(aplavz)
13:05
And like the GeneralSplošna AssemblySkupščina,
327
770000
2000
In kot na Generalni skupščini,
13:07
obviouslyočitno the mostnajbolj wonderfulČudovito, wonderfulČudovito momenttrenutek.
328
772000
2000
očitno najlepši, najlepši trenutek.
13:09
And so then we wrappedzaviti the filmfilm up and we put it togetherskupaj
329
774000
2000
In tako smo dokončali film in ga sestavili,
13:11
because we had to go back.
330
776000
2000
saj smo morali iti nazaj.
13:13
We put it into DariDari and PashtoPaštunščina. We put it in the locallokalno dialectsnarečja.
331
778000
3000
Prevedli smo ga v dari in pašto. Prevedli smo ga v lokalna narečja.
13:16
We wentšla back to AfghanistanAfganistan,
332
781000
2000
Vrnili smo se v Afganistan,
13:18
because the nextNaslednji yearleto was comingprihajajo, and we wanted to supportpodporo.
333
783000
3000
saj se je bližalo naslednje leto in hoteli smo pomagati.
13:21
But more importantlypomembno, we wanted to go back,
334
786000
2000
A pomembneje je, da smo se želeli vrniti,
13:23
because these people in AfghanistanAfganistan were the heroesjunaki.
335
788000
2000
ker so afganistanski ljudje heroji.
13:25
They were the people who believedverjel in peacemir
336
790000
3000
To so ljudje, ki so verjeli v mir
13:28
and the possibilitiesmožnosti of it, etcitd., etcitd. -- and they madeizdelane it realresnično.
337
793000
3000
in v možnosti zanj, itd., itd. ... in ga uresničili.
13:31
And we wanted to go back and showshow them the filmfilm
338
796000
2000
In vrniti smo se hoteli, da jim pokažemo film
13:33
and say, "Look, you guys madeizdelane this possiblemogoče. And thank you very much."
339
798000
3000
in rečemo: "Poglejte, vi ste to omogočili. Najlepša vam hvala."
13:36
And we gavedala the filmfilm over.
340
801000
2000
In predali smo jim film.
13:38
ObviouslyOčitno it was shownprikazano, and it was amazingneverjetno.
341
803000
2000
Seveda so ga prikazali in bilo je čudovito.
13:40
And then that yearleto, that yearleto, 2008,
342
805000
3000
In tistega leta, leta 2008,
13:43
this ISAFISAF statementizjavo from KabulKabul, AfghanistanAfganistan, SeptemberSeptembra 17thth:
343
808000
3000
je prišla izjava ISAF-a iz Kabula v Afganistanu, 17. septembra:

347
818000
2000
ne bo opravljal ofenzivnih vojaških operacij."
13:55
They were sayinggovoriti they would stop.
348
820000
2000
Rekli so, da se bodo ustavili.
13:57
And then there was this other statementizjavo
349
822000
2000
Potem je prišla še druga izjava,
13:59
that cameprišel out from the U.N. DepartmentOddelek of SecurityVarnost and SafetyVarnost
350
824000
3000
ki je prišla z ministrstva za varnost,
14:02
sayinggovoriti that, in AfghanistanAfganistan,
351
827000
2000
rekoč, da je v Afganistanu,
14:04
because of this work,
352
829000
2000
zaradi tega dela
14:06
the violencenasilje was down by 70 percentodstotkov.
353
831000
2000
nasilje upadlo za 70 odstotkov.
14:08
70 percentodstotkov reductionzmanjšanje in violencenasilje on this day at leastvsaj.
354
833000
3000
Sedemdesetodstotno zmanjšanje nasilja vsaj na ta dan.
14:11
And that completelypopolnoma blewzapravila my mindum
355
836000
2000
In to me je čisto odneslo,
14:13
almostskoraj more than anything.
356
838000
2000
skoraj bolj kot karkoli drugega.
14:15
And I rememberZapomni si beingbiti stuckzaljubljen in NewNove YorkYork, this time because of the volcanovulkan,
357
840000
3000
Spomnim se, da sem bil ujet v New Yorku, tokrat zaradi vulkana,
14:18
whichki was obviouslyočitno much lessmanj harmfulškodljivo.
358
843000
2000
kar je imelo seveda veliko manjše posledice.
14:20
And I was there thinkingrazmišljanje about what was going on.
359
845000
2000
Razmišljal sem o tem, kar se je dogajalo.
14:22
And I kepthranijo thinkingrazmišljanje about this 70 percentodstotkov.
360
847000
2000
In nisem mogel pozabiti na tistih 70 odstotkov.
14:24
70 percentodstotkov reductionzmanjšanje in violencenasilje --
361
849000
2000
70-odstotno zmanjšanje nasilja...
14:26
in what everyonevsi said was completelypopolnoma impossiblenemogoče
362
851000
2000
za kar so vsi govorili, da je povsem nemogoče
14:28
and you couldn'tni mogel do.
363
853000
2000
in da se tega ne da narediti.
14:30
And that madeizdelane me think that, if we can get 70 percentodstotkov in AfghanistanAfganistan,
364
855000
3000
Pomislil sem, da če lahko dosežemo 70 odstotkov v Afganistanu,
14:33
then surelyzagotovo we can get 70 percentodstotkov reductionzmanjšanje everywherepovsod.
365
858000
5000
potem gotovo lahko dosežemo 70-odstotno zmanjšanje tudi drugod.
14:38
We have to go for a globalglobalno trucepremirje.
366
863000
2000
Zavzeti se moramo za globalno premirje.
14:40
We have to utilizeizkoristiti this day of ceasefirepremirje and nonviolencenenasilje
367
865000
2000
Ta dan premirja in nenasilja moramo uporabiti
