"Ljude je toliko strah od različitosti da pokušavaju sve da smeste u malene kalupe sa specifičnom etiketom", kaže šesnaestogodišnja Rozi King, koja je hrabra, drska i autistična. Ona želi da zna: zašto se svi opterećuju normalnošću? Ona zvonkim glasom poziva svako dete, sve roditelje, profesore i sve osobe da slave jedinstvenost. To je uzvišeni testament potencijalu ljudske različitosti.

I haven't told many people this,
0
738
1698
Ovo sam rekla retko kome,
00:14
but in my head, I've got
1
2436
2396
ali u mojoj glavi postoji
00:16
thousands of secret worlds all going on
2
4832
2137
na hiljade tajnih svetova i svi su aktivni
00:18
all at the same time.
3
6969
2301
istovremeno.
00:21
I am also autistic.
4
9270
2333
Takođe sam autistična.
00:23
People tend to diagnose autism
5
11603
1946
Ljudi često dijagnostikuju autizam
00:25
with really specific
check-box descriptions,
check-box descriptions,
6
13549
3319
tako što štrikliraju
krajnje specifične simptome,
krajnje specifične simptome,
00:28
but in reality, it's a whole
variation as to what we're like.
variation as to what we're like.
7
16868
3048
ali u stvari, postoji čitav niz varijacija
naše osobenosti.
naše osobenosti.
00:31
For instance, my little brother,
8
19916
1733
Na primer, moj mlađi brat,
00:33
he's very severely autistic.
9
21649
1777
on je krajnje autističan.
00:35
He's nonverbal. He can't talk at all.
10
23426
2262
Nema sposobnost govora.
Ne može uopšte da govori.
Ne može uopšte da govori.
00:37
But I love to talk.
11
25688
2492
Ali ja volim da govorim.
00:40
People often associate autism
12
28180
3303
Ljudi često povezuju autizam
00:43
with liking maths and
science and nothing else,
science and nothing else,
13
31483
2673
sa sklonošću ka matematici,
nauci i ničemu drugom,
nauci i ničemu drugom,
00:46
but I know so many autistic people
14
34156
1799
no ja poznajem mnogo autističnih ljudi
00:47
who love being creative.
15
35955
2373
koji vole da budu kreativni.
00:50
But that is a stereotype,
16
38328
2442
Ali to je stereotip,
00:52
and the stereotypes of things
17
40770
1856
a stereotipi
00:54
are often, if not always, wrong.
18
42626
3262
su često, ako ne i uvek, pogrešni.
00:57
For instance, a lot of people
19
45888
2418
Na primer, mnogi ljudi,
01:00
think autism and think
"Rain Man" immediately.
"Rain Man" immediately.
20
48306
4253
kad pomisle na autizam,
odmah se sete "Kišnog čoveka".
odmah se sete "Kišnog čoveka".
01:04
That's the common belief,
21
52559
1492
To je uobičajeno verovanje
01:06
that every single autistic
person is Dustin Hoffman,
person is Dustin Hoffman,
22
54051
3295
da je baš svaka
autistična osoba Dastin Hofman,
autistična osoba Dastin Hofman,
01:09
and that's not true.
23
57346
3003
a to nije istina.
01:12
But that's not just with
autistic people, either.
autistic people, either.
24
60349
2801
Ali nije samo tako sa autističnim ljudima.
01:15
I've seen it with LGBTQ people,
25
63150
2340
Tako je i sa LGBTQ populacijom,
01:17
with women, with POC people.
26
65490
2420
sa ženama, sa obojenim ljudima.
01:19
People are so afraid of variety
27
67910
2518
Ljude je toliko strah različitosti
01:22
that they try to fit everything
into a tiny little box
into a tiny little box
28
70428
2801
da sve pokušavaju da smeste
u malene kalupe
u malene kalupe
01:25
with really specific labels.
29
73229
2295
sa krajnje specifičnim etiketama.
01:27
This is something that actually
30
75524
1631
Ovo mi se zaista
01:29
happened to me in real life:
31
77155
2678
desilo u stvarnosti:
01:31
I googled "autistic people are ..."
32
79833
2688
na Guglu sam ukucala
"autistični ljudi su..."
"autistični ljudi su..."
01:34
and it comes up with suggestions
33
82521
2103
i izađu sugestije
01:36
as to what you're going to type.
34
84624
2025
šta ćete da upišete.
01:38
I googled "autistic people are ..."
35
86649
1755
Upisala sam "autistični ljudi su..."
01:40
and the top result was "demons."
36
88404
3213
i prva preporuka je bila "demoni".
01:43
That is the first thing that people think
37
91617
2258
Ovo je prvo što ljudi pomisle
01:45
when they think autism.
38
93875
2004
kad pomisle na autizam.
01:47
They know.
39
95879
1906
Oni znaju.
01:49
(Laughter)
40
97785
3209
(Smeh)
01:56
One of the things I can do
because I'm autistic —
because I'm autistic —
41
104604
2597
Jedna od stvari koje mogu da radim
jer sam autistična -
jer sam autistična -
01:59
it's an ability rather than a disability —
42
107201
2441
to je sposobnost, više nego invaliditet -
02:01
is I've got a very, very vivid imagination.
43
109642
3535
a to je da imam veoma, veoma živu maštu.
Dozvolite da vam to malo pojasnim.
02:05
Let me explain it to you a bit.
44
113177
1673
To je kao da se krećem
kroz dva sveta istovremeno.
kroz dva sveta istovremeno.
02:06
It's like I'm walking in two
worlds most of the time.
worlds most of the time.
45
114850
2250
02:09
There's the real world,
the world that we all share,
the world that we all share,
46
117100
2534
Postoji stvarni svet,
svet zajednički za sve nas
svet zajednički za sve nas
02:11
and there's the world in my mind,
47
119634
1980
i postoji svet u mojoj glavi,
02:13
and the world in my mind
is often so much more real
is often so much more real
48
121614
3037
a svet u mojoj glavi
je često daleko stvarniji
je često daleko stvarniji
02:16
than the real world.
49
124651
2487
od stvarnog sveta.
02:19
Like, it's very easy for
me to let my mind loose
me to let my mind loose
50
127138
3371
Znate, meni je izuzetno lako
da oslobodim svoj um
da oslobodim svoj um
02:22
because I don't try and fit
myself into a tiny little box.
myself into a tiny little box.
51
130509
2871
jer ja ne pokušavam
da se uklopim u maleni kalup.
da se uklopim u maleni kalup.
02:25
That's one of the best
things about being autistic.
things about being autistic.
52
133380
2239
To je nešto najbolje kod autizma.
02:27
You don't have the urge to do that.
53
135619
1969
Nemate potrebu za tim.
02:29
You find what you want to do,
54
137588
2768
Pronađete šta želite da radite,
02:32
you find a way to do it,
and you get on with it.
and you get on with it.
55
140356
2784
pronađete način da to radite
i posvetite se tome.
i posvetite se tome.
02:35
If I was trying to fit myself into a box,
56
143140
2153
Da sam pokušavala da se uklopim,
02:37
I wouldn't be here, I
wouldn't have achieved
wouldn't have achieved
57
145293
2152
ne bih bila ovde, ne bih postigla
02:39
half the things that I have now.
58
147445
2150
ni polovinu stvari koje sam postigla.
02:41
There are problems, though.
59
149595
1776
Ipak, postoje problemi.
02:43
There are problems with being autistic,
60
151371
2165
Kada ste autistični, imate probleme,
02:45
and there are problems with
having too much imagination.
having too much imagination.
61
153536
2720
a problemi nastaju zbog
prevelike maštovitosti.
prevelike maštovitosti.
02:48
School can be a problem in general,
62
156256
2203
Škola može uopšteno da bude problem,
02:50
but having also to explain to a teacher
63
158459
4031
ali kada morate
da objašnjavate profesorima
da objašnjavate profesorima
02:54
on a daily basis
64
162490
2182
svakodnevno
02:56
that their lesson is inexplicably dull
65
164672
3645
da je njihovo predavanje neopisivo dosadno
03:00
and you are secretly taking refuge
66
168317
2621
i da potajno bežite
03:02
in a world inside your head in
which you are not in that lesson,
which you are not in that lesson,
67
170938
3962
u svet unutar svog uma,
koji nema veze sa predavanjem,
koji nema veze sa predavanjem,
03:06
that adds to your list of problems.
68
174900
3496
to doprinese listi problema.
03:10
(Laughter)
69
178396
1868
(Smeh)
03:12
Also, when my imagination takes hold,
70
180264
4420
Takođe, kada mašta zaživi,
03:16
my body takes on a life of its own.
71
184684
1834
izgubim kontrolu nad svojim telom.
03:18
When something very exciting
happens in my inner world,
happens in my inner world,
72
186518
2958
Kada se nešto veoma uzbudljivo
dešava u mom unutrašnjem svetu,
dešava u mom unutrašnjem svetu,
03:21
I've just got to run.
73
189476
1504
ja prosto moram da jurim.
03:22
I've got to rock backwards and forwards,
74
190980
1916
Moram da se klatim napred i nazad,
03:24
or sometimes scream.
75
192896
1788
a ponekad i vrištim.
03:26
This gives me so much energy,
76
194684
2250
To mi da toliko energije,
03:28
and I've got to have an
outlet for all that energy.
outlet for all that energy.
77
196934
2621
da ja moram nekako
da otpustim svu tu energiju.
da otpustim svu tu energiju.
03:31
But I've done that ever
since I was a child,
since I was a child,
78
199555
2104
Ali ja to radim još od detinjstva,
03:33
ever since I was a tiny little girl.
79
201659
1718
još dok sam bila malena devojčica.
03:35
And my parents thought it was
cute, so they didn't bring it up,
cute, so they didn't bring it up,
80
203377
2869
Mojim roditeljima je to bilo simpatično,
pa mi nisu zamerali,
pa mi nisu zamerali,
03:38
but when I got into school,
81
206246
1618
ali kad sam krenula u školu,
03:39
they didn't really agree that it was cute.
82
207864
2301
njima to nije bilo simpatično.
03:42
It can be that people
don't want to be friends
don't want to be friends
83
210165
2665
Dešava se da ljudi
ne žele da budu prijatelji
ne žele da budu prijatelji
03:44
with the girl that starts
screaming in an algebra lesson.
screaming in an algebra lesson.
84
212830
2977
sa devojkom koja vrišti
na času matematike.
na času matematike.
03:47
And this doesn't normally
happen in this day and age,
happen in this day and age,
85
215807
3906
Ovo se obično ne dešava u današnje vreme,
03:51
but it can be that people don't want
to be friends with the autistic girl.
to be friends with the autistic girl.
86
219713
3577
ali desi se da ljudi ne žele
da se druže s autističnom devojkom.
da se druže s autističnom devojkom.
03:55
It can be that people
don't want to associate
don't want to associate
87
223290
3282
Možda ljudi ne žele da budu u vezi
03:58
with anyone who won't
or can't fit themselves
or can't fit themselves
88
226572
2764
ni sa kim ko ne želi
ili ne može da se uklopi
ili ne može da se uklopi
04:01
into a box that's labeled normal.
89
229336
2970
u kalup s etiketom "normalno".
04:04
But that's fine with me,
90
232306
2166
Ali nemam ništa protiv toga,
04:06
because it sorts the wheat from the chaff,
91
234472
2134
tako se deli žito od kukolja,
04:08
and I can find which people
are genuine and true
are genuine and true
92
236606
2767
i ja mogu da otkrijem
koji ljudi su iskreni i odani
koji ljudi su iskreni i odani
04:11
and I can pick these people as my friends.
93
239373
2556
i mogu da ih odaberem za prijatelje.
04:13
But if you think about it, what is normal?
94
241929
3420
Ali, kad malo razmislite,
šta je to normalno?
šta je to normalno?
04:17
What does it mean?
95
245349
1811
Šta to znači?
04:19
Imagine if that was the best
compliment you ever received.
compliment you ever received.
96
247160
2780
Zamislite da je to najbolji kompliment
koji ste ikad dobili.
koji ste ikad dobili.
04:21
"Wow, you are really normal."
97
249940
2281
"Vau, kako si ti normalna."
04:24
(Laughter)
98
252221
1385
(Smeh)
04:25
But compliments are,
99
253606
3404
Ali komplimenti glase:
04:29
"you are extraordinary"
100
257010
1408
"ti si izvanredna"
04:30
or "you step outside the box."
101
258418
1834
ili "otvorena si za nove poglede".
04:32
It's "you're amazing."
102
260252
1721
"Neverovatna si."
04:33
So if people want to be these things,
103
261973
1890
Dakle, ako ljudi žele da budu sve to,
04:35
why are so many people
striving to be normal?
striving to be normal?
104
263863
2508
zašto toliko njih teži da bude normalno?
04:38
Why are people pouring their
brilliant individual light into a mold?
brilliant individual light into a mold?
105
266371
5014
Zašto ljudi prosipaju svoju
briljantnu individualnost u kalup?
briljantnu individualnost u kalup?
04:43
People are so afraid of variety
that they try and force everyone,
that they try and force everyone,
106
271385
4755
Ljude je toliko strah od različitosti
da pokušavaju da primoraju svakog,
da pokušavaju da primoraju svakog,
04:48
even people who don't want
to or can't, to become normal.
to or can't, to become normal.
107
276140
3718
čak i ljude koji ne žele
ili ne mogu, da budu normalni.
ili ne mogu, da budu normalni.
04:51
There are camps for LGBTQ people
108
279858
2839
Postoje kampovi za LGBTQ ljude
04:54
or autistic people to try and
make them this "normal,"
make them this "normal,"
109
282697
3476
ili autistične ljude,
gde ih pokušavaju učiniti "normalnim",
gde ih pokušavaju učiniti "normalnim",
04:58
and that's terrifying that people
would do that in this day and age.
would do that in this day and age.
110
286173
4525
i to je strašno,
da to ljudi rade u današnje vreme.
da to ljudi rade u današnje vreme.
05:02
All in all, I wouldn't trade my autism
and my imagination for the world.
and my imagination for the world.
111
290698
4607
Sve u svemu, ne bih menjala svoj autizam
i svoju maštu ni za šta na svetu.
i svoju maštu ni za šta na svetu.
05:07
Because I am autistic,
112
295305
1990
Zato što sam autistična,
05:09
I've presented documentaries to the BBC,
113
297295
2992
pojavljivala sam se
u dokumentarcima na Bi-Bi-Si-ju,
u dokumentarcima na Bi-Bi-Si-ju,
05:12
I'm in the midst of writing a book,
114
300287
2239
trenutno pišem knjigu,
05:14
I'm doing this — this is fantastic —
115
302526
2148
govorim ovde - to je sjajno -
05:16
and one of the best
things that I've achieved,
things that I've achieved,
116
304674
3251
i jedna od najboljih stvari
koje sam postigla,
koje sam postigla,
05:19
that I consider to have achieved,
117
307925
2585
smatram da sam to postigla,
05:22
is I've found ways of communicating
118
310510
1982
je da sam pronašla način da komuniciram
05:24
with my little brother and sister,
119
312492
1845
s mlađim bratom i sestrom,
05:26
who as I've said are nonverbal.
They can't speak.
They can't speak.
120
314337
3363
za koje sam već rekla
da nemaju sposobnost govora. Ne govore.
da nemaju sposobnost govora. Ne govore.
05:29
And people would often write
off someone who's nonverbal,
off someone who's nonverbal,
121
317700
2860
Ljudi bi često otpisali
nekoga ko ne može da govori,
nekoga ko ne može da govori,
05:32
but that's silly, because
my little brother and sister
my little brother and sister
122
320560
2734
ali to je glupo, jer su moj brat i sestra
05:35
are the best siblings that
you could ever hope for.
you could ever hope for.
123
323294
2693
najbolji brat i sestra
koje biste poželeli.
koje biste poželeli.
05:37
They're just the best,
and I love them so much
and I love them so much
124
325987
2287
Oni su prosto najbolji i obožavam ih,
05:40
and I care about them
more than anything else.
more than anything else.
125
328274
3555
stalo mi je do njih
više od bilo čega na svetu.
više od bilo čega na svetu.
05:43
I'm going to leave you with one question:
126
331829
2678
Ostaviću vas sa jednim pitanjem:
05:46
If we can't get inside the person's minds,
127
334507
3137
ako ne možemo da uđemo u tuđe umove,
05:49
no matter if they're autistic or not,

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Rosie King - Storytelling activistRosie King challenges stereotypes of people with autism and contextualizes the issue by asking us, “Why be normal?”
Why you should listen
When she was nine years old, doctors confirmed Rosie King’s self-diagnosis of Asperger’s Syndrome. With two younger siblings severely affected by autism, Rosie had a burning desire to help make the world a more tolerant place for people with autism ever since she was a young girl. She found the opportunity to do so when her family was invited to do a local news segment on her mother’s children’s books, which featured Rosie’s illustrations. Her lack of inhibition made her a natural presenter, and she was asked to host BBC Newsround’s special program “My Autism and Me,” bringing her a much wider audience and an Emmy Kid’s Award. Rosie continues to raise awareness about autism, and is working towards her goal of becoming a professional actress and storyteller.
