Let's talk about film电影 now.
42
137832
5017
02:34
Film电影, it's an incredible难以置信 medium,
43
142849
2896
02:37
but essentially实质上, it's the same相同
now as it was then.
44
145745
3315
02:41
It's a group of rectangles矩形 that are
played发挥 in a sequence序列.
45
149060
3469
02:44
And we've我们已经 doneDONE incredible难以置信 things
with those rectangles矩形.
46
152529
3833
02:48
But I started开始 thinking思维 about,
47
156362
2885
02:51
is there a way that I can use modern现代
and developing发展 technologies技术
48
159247
4369
02:55
to tell stories故事 in different不同 ways方法
49
163616
2125
02:57
and tell different不同 kinds of stories故事
50
165741
1741
02:59
that maybe I couldn't不能 tell using运用
the traditional传统 tools工具 of filmmaking电影制作
51
167482
4311
03:03
that we've我们已经 been using运用 for 100 years年份?
52
171793
2171
03:05
So I started开始 experimenting试验,
53
173964
2821
03:08
and what I was trying to do was
to build建立 the ultimate最终 empathy同情 machine.
54
176785
5089
03:15
And here's这里的 one of the early experiments实验:
55
183054
2534
03:17
(Music
56
185588
2824
03:20
So this is called
57
188412
2244
这个叫做The Wilderness Downtown。
03:22
It was a collaboration合作 with Arcade拱廊 Fire.
58
190656
2056
03:24
It asked you to put in the address地址
where you grew成长 up at the beginning开始 of it.
59
192712
3650
03:28
It's a website网站.
60
196362
997
03:29
And out of it starts启动 growing生长 these little
03:34
And you see this teenager青少年
running赛跑 down a street,
62
202275
2382
03:36
and then you see Google谷歌 Street View视图
and Google谷歌 Maps地图 imagery意象
63
204657
2758
03:39
and you realize实现 the street
he's running赛跑 down is yours你的.
64
207415
2524
03:41
And when he stops停止 in front面前 of a house,
he stops停止 in front面前 of your house.
65
209939
4109
03:47
And this was great, and I saw people
having an even deeper更深 emotional情绪化 reaction反应
66
215735
3682
03:51
to this than the things that
I had made制作 in rectangles矩形.
67
219417
3214
03:54
And I'm essentially实质上 taking服用
a piece of your history历史
68
222631
3931
03:58
and putting it inside
the framing取景 of the story故事.
69
226562
3419
04:01
But then I started开始 thinking思维,
70
229981
1597
04:03
okay, well that's a part部分 of you,
71
231578
1852
04:05
but how do I put all of you
inside of the frame?
72
233430
5301
04:10
So to do that, I started
04:13
And this is one called
"The Treachery背信弃义 of Sanctuary避难所."
74
241834
2540
04:16
It's a triptych三联. I'm going to show显示
you the third第三 panel面板.
75
244374
3018
04:19
(Music
76
247392
3838
04:43
So now I've got you inside of the frame,
77
271260
3588
04:46
and I saw people having even more
04:51
to this work than the previous以前 one.
79
279403
2677
04:54
But then I started开始 thinking思维 about frames,
and what do they represent代表?
80
282080
4150
04:58
And a frame is just a window
81
286230
2257
05:00
I mean, all the media媒体 that we watch --
05:03
they're these windows视窗 into
these other worlds世界.
83
291566
2253
05:05
And I thought, well, great.
I got you in a frame.
84
293819
2688
05:08
But I don't want you in the frame,
I don't want you in the window
85
296507
3127
05:11
I want you through通过 the window窗口,
I want you on the other side,
86
299634
2889
05:14
in the world世界, inhabiting居住 the world世界.
87
302523
3075
05:18
So that leads引线 me back to virtual虚拟 reality现实.
88
306218
2905
05:21
Let's talk about virtual虚拟 reality现实.
89
309123
2221
05:24
Unfortunately
90
312634
1300
05:25
talking about virtual虚拟 reality现实
is like dancing跳舞 about architecture建筑.
91
313934
4489
05:30
And this is actually其实 someone有人 dancing跳舞
about architecture建筑 in virtual虚拟 reality现实.
92
318423
6917
05:37
(Laughter
93
325340
2483
05:39
So, it's difficult to explain说明.
Why is it difficult to explain说明?
94
327823
3261
05:43
It's difficult because it's a very
experiential体验 medium.
95
331084
3698
05:46
You feel your way inside of it.
96
334782
1916
05:48
It's a machine, but inside of it,
97
336698
1798
05:50
it feels感觉 like real真实 life,
it feels感觉 like truth真相.
98
338496
3449
05:53
And you feel present当下 in the world世界
that you're inside
99
341945
2521
05:56
and you feel present当下 with the people
that you're inside of it with.
100
344466
3223
05:59
So, I'm going to show显示 you a demo演示
of a virtual虚拟 reality现实 film电影:
101
347689
4096
06:03
a full-screen全屏 version of
all the information信息
102
351785
2221
06:06
that we capture捕获 when
we shoot射击 virtual虚拟 reality现实.
103
354006
2203
06:08
So we're shooting射击 in every一切 direction方向.
104
356209
1825
06:10
This is a camera相机 system系统 that we built内置
105
358034
2176
06:12
that has 3D cameras相机 that look
in every一切 direction方向
106
360210
3025
that face面对 in every一切 direction方向.
107
363235
2752
06:17
We take this and we build建立, basically基本上,
a sphere领域 of a world世界 that you inhabit居住于.
108
365987
5346
06:23
So what I'm going to show显示 you
is not a view视图 into the world世界,
109
371333
3403
06:26
it's basically基本上 the whole整个 world世界
stretched拉伸 into a rectangle长方形.
110
374736
3371
06:30
So this film电影 is called

06:33
