ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Michele L. Sullivan - Social innovator
Michele L. Sullivan is known for her sustainable and collaborative approach to philanthropic investing.

Why you should listen

Michele L. Sullivan has held various globally influential leadership positions at Caterpillar during her 29-year career. She currently is Caterpillar's Director of Corporate Social Innovation and President of the Caterpillar Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Caterpillar Inc.

Throughout Sullivan's career, she has dramatically grown the reach, influence and impact of each role. Her time with the Caterpillar Foundation is no different. She has taken the Caterpillar Foundation from a transactional Foundation into a global and strategic Foundation. She has moved the Foundation from Corporate Social Responsibility into Corporate Social Innovation. This strategy places the human need first, not as an afterthought of profit. Sullivan is well known for her global expertise and sustainable and collaborative approach to philanthropic investing.

Sullivan strongly believes monumental and sustainable change in our largest global challenges can only happen through partnerships and collaboration between public, private and non-profit entities. This strategy resulted in the Caterpillar Foundation's transformation into one of the most influential corporate foundations and, ultimately, the launch of the Foundation's collaborative impact platform, Together.Stronger.

Determination and resilience have been present throughout Sullivan;s life. She endured many years of orthopedic surgeries and other challenges. She provided leadership starting in the Little Prairie Chapter of Little People of America as a teenager. She was named by Inside Philanthropy as one of the 50 most powerful women in philanthropy and she served as a US delegate to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. She is a member of the ONE board of directors and chairs the Greater Peoria Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Advisory Board. She earned her MBA from Bradley University, and she is the first woman to be President of the Caterpillar Foundation.

123

Vi verovatno stignete na aerodrom, prođete

06:23
I won'tнеће commentкоментар on that.
129
371560
1776
Neću to da komentarišem.
06:25
And then I make my way to the gateврата,
130
373360
1976
A onda se proguram do kapije
06:27
and with my giftпоклон of gabnisu kao ja
that my parentsродитељи said I was bornрођен with,
131
375360
3776
i uz pomoć brbljivosti,
moji roditelji kažu da sam rođena s tim,
06:31
I talk to the gateврата agentAgente, and then I say,
"By the way, my scooterskuter weighsтежи this much,
132
379160
4616
razgovaram s agentom na kapiji i kažem:

134

06:40
AlsoTakođe, the day before, I had calledпозвани

135

Takođe, dan ranije sam morala

136

06:49
So in my shoesципеле,
it's a little bitмало differentразличит.
137
397680
2160
Dakle, u mojoj koži je malčice drugačije.
06:52
When I get ontoна the planeавион,
138
400480
1256
Kad se ukrcam na avion,
06:53
I use my giftпоклон of gabnisu kao ja to askпитати the ladyдама

139
401760
4440
svojim darom brbljanja zamolim damu
da mi podigne torbu, i one to rado čine.
Trudim se da ne jedem i ne pijem u avionu
06:58
I try not to eatјести or drinkпиће on a planeавион
140
406800
1736
07:00
because I don't want to have to
get up and walkходати on the planeавион,
141
408560
2896
jer ne želim da ustajem i hodam u avionu,
ali priroda ima sopstveni raspored
07:03

142

143
413080
2576
i ne tako davno

07:07
So I walkedходао up to the frontфронт of the planeавион
144
415680
2376
Dakle, odšetala sam do pročelja aviona
07:10
and gabbedИavrljali with the flightлет attendantsluga,
145
418080

146
420120
3320
i zamolila: "Možeš li da pripaziš vrata?
Ne mogu da dohvatim ključ."
07:16
So I'm in there doing my businessбизнис,
and the doorврата fliesлети openотворен.
147
424640
3776
Tako, unutra sam, obavljam svoj posao,
a vrata se širom otvaraju.
07:20
And there's a gentlemanгосподо there
148
428440
1560
I tu stoji gospodin
07:22
with a look of horrorхорор on his faceлице.
149
430880

07:25
I'm sure I had the sameисти look.
150
433440

Sigurno sam i ja imala isti.
07:27
As I cameДошао out, I noticedПриметио

151
435880
4320

152
441520

07:37
So I walkходати up to him and I quietlyтихо go,

07:42
(LaughterSmeh)
155
450160
2680
(Smeh)
07:48
And he goesиде, "I think so."
156

A on će: "Verujem da hoću."
07:50
(LaughterSmeh)
157
458120
1656
(Smeh)
07:51
Now, while he's probablyвероватно

158
459800
3296
Sad, dok on verovatno
ne govori javno o tome, ja govorim.
07:55
(LaughterSmeh)
159
463120
1816
(Smeh)
07:56
But we talkedпричао for the restодмор of the flightлет,

Međutim, razgovarali smo ostatak leta

163

2176
08:07

164
475600
1216
Mogu li da ti je spustim?"
08:08
And I said, "Of courseкурс, thank you."
165
476840
1680
A ja sam rekla: "Naravno, hvala ti."
08:11
And we wishedželeo eachсваки other well,

I poželeli smo jedno drugom sreću,
08:13

08:21
He won'tнеће forgetзаборави it, and neitherни will I,
170

08:30
When you travelпутовање internationallyна међународном нивоу,
173

Kada putujete u inostranstvo,
08:32
it can be even more challengingизазован

174

Pre nekoliko godina sam bila u Zanzibaru

and I noticeобјава there wasn'tније a jetмлазни bridgeмост.
182

08:59
So I had to kindкинд of say,
183
527240
1936
Pa sam morala da kažem nešto kao:
"Ne samo da ćeš morati
da podigneš moja kolica,
09:01
"Not only do you have to liftлифт my chairстолица,
184

185

09:05
So we got to spendпотрошити about an hourсат togetherзаједно
while we waitedчекао for the flightлет,
186

193

09:31
And as you noticeобјава, I get a lot of help.
194
559440
2416
I, kao što primećujete,

09:33
I would not be where I am todayданас
