- Healthcare innovator
Lucien Engelen is a technologist and innovator who is working to put patients into the healthcare team. Full bio

I would like to talk to you
Razgovarao bih s vama
00:15
about why many e-health projects fail.
o tome zašto mnogi projekti e-zdravlja propadaju.
00:17
And I really think that the most important thing of it
Zaista mislim da je tu najvažnija stvar
00:20
is that we stopped listening to patients.
to da smo prestali slušati pacijente.
00:23
And one of the things we did at Radboud University
00:25
is we appointed a chief listening officer.
00:27
Not in a very scientific way --
Ne na vrlo znanstven način --
00:29
she puts up a little cup of coffee or cup of tea
ona donese malu šalicu kave ili čaja
00:31
and asks patients, family, relatives,
i pita pacijente, obitelj, rođake:
00:34
"What's up?
"Što se događa?
00:36
How could we help you?"
Kako vam možemo pomoći?"
00:38
And we think, we like to think,
Mi mislimo, mi volimo misliti
00:40
that this is one of the major problems
da je ovo jedan od glavnih problema
00:42
why all -- maybe not all --
zašto svi -- možda ne svi,
00:44
but most of the e-health projects fail,
ali većina projekata e-zdravlja propada,
00:46
since we stopped listening.
otkad smo prestali slušati.
00:48
This is my WiFi scale. It's a very simple thing.
Ovo je moja WiFi vaga, vrlo je jednostavno.
00:50
It's got one knob, on/off.
Ima jednu tipku, upali/ugasi
00:52
And every morning I hop on it.
i ja svako jutro stanem na nju.
00:54
And yes, I've got a challenge,
I da, imam izazov,
00:57
as you might see.
kao što možete vidjeti.
00:59
And I put my challenge on 95 kg.
Stavljam svoj izazov na 95 kilograma.
01:01
But the thing is that it's made this simple
01:04
that whenever I hop on,
da svaki put kad stanem na nju,
01:07
it sends my data through Google Health as well.
šalje moje podatke i kroz Google Health
01:09
And it's collected by my general practitioner as well,
te oni odlaze k mom liječniku opće prakse,
01:12
so he can see what's my problem in weight,
01:15
not on the very moment
ne u onom trenutku
01:19
that I need cardiologic support or something like it,
kad budem trebao kardiološku pomoć ili nešto slično,
01:21
but also looking backward.
nego i razvitak situacije kroz vrijeme.
01:24
But there's another thing.
Ali tu je još jedna stvar.
01:26
As some of you might know, I've got more than 4,000 followers on Twitter.
01:28
So every morning
Svakog jutra
01:31
I hop on my WiFi scale
stanem na svoju WiFi vagu
01:33
and before I'm in my car, people start talking to me,
i prije nego stignem do auta, ljudi mi počnu govoriti:
01:35
"I think you need a light lunch today, Lucien."
"Mislim da danas trebaš lagan ručak, Luciene."
01:37
(Laughter)
(Smijeh)
01:39
But that's the nicest thing that could happen,
01:41
since this is peer pressure,
jer to je pritisak vršnjaka,
01:43
peer pressure used to help patients --
koji se koristi za pomoć pacijentima --
01:45
since this could be used for obesity,
01:48
it could be used
može se koristiti
01:50
to stop smoking in patients.
da potakne pacijente da prestanu pušiti.
01:52
But on the other hand, it also could be used
No, s druge strane, može se koristiti
01:54
to get people from out of their chairs
i kako bismo ljude pomaknuli iz njihovih stolica
01:56
and try to work together in some kind of gaming activity
i potaknuli ih da rade zajedno u nekoj aktivnosti kroz igru
01:59
to get more control of their health.
kako bi imali više kontrole nad svojim zdravljem.
02:02
As of next week, it will soon be available.
02:05
There will be this little blood pressure meter
Bit će ovaj mali tlakomjer
02:08
connected to an iPhone or something or other.
spojen na iPhone ili nešto takvo.
02:10
And people will be able, from their homes,
Ljudi će moći, iz svog doma,
02:13
to take their blood pressure,
mjeriti svoj krvni tlak,
02:15
send it into their doctor
slati podatke liječniku
02:17
and eventually share it with others, for instance,
02:19
for over a hundred dollars.
za nešto preko stotinu dolara.
02:22
And this is the point where patients get into position
I ovo je točka u kojoj pacijenti dolaze u poziciju
02:24
and can collect, not only their own control again,
i mogu ponovno dobiti ne samo kontrolu,
02:27
be captain of their own ship,
biti kapetani svojeg broda,
02:30
but also can help us in health care
već mogu i nama u zdravstvu pomoći
02:32
due to the challenges that we face,
zbog izazova s kojima se suočavamo,
02:34
like health care cost explosion,
kao npr. ogroman porast troškova zdravstvene skrbi,
02:36
doubled demand and things like that.
udvostručena potražnja i takve stvari.
02:39
Make techniques that are easy to use
Treba stvoriti tehnike jednostavne za korištenje
02:41
and start with this to embrace patients in the team.
i početi s tim kako bismo uključili pacijente u tim.
02:43
And you can do this with techniques like this,
To možete činiti pomoću ovakvih tehnika,
02:46
but also by crowd-sourcing.
ali isto tako i kroz mudrost mase.
02:48
And one of the things we did
Jednu od stvari koje smo napravili
02:50
I would like to share with you introduced by a little video.
htio bih podijeliti s vama kroz kratak uvodni video.
02:52
(Music)
(Glazba)
02:55
We've all got navigation controls in our car.
Svi imamo navigacijske kontrole u autu.
04:07
We maybe even [have] it in our cellphone.
Možda ih čak imamo i u mobitelu.
04:10
We know perfectly where all the ATMs are
Savršeno znamo gdje su svi bankomati
04:13
about the city of Maastricht.
u gradu Maastrichtu.
04:15
The other thing is we know where all the gas stations are.
04:17
And sure, we could find fast food chains.
I naravno, možemo naći lance brze hrane.
04:20
But where would be the nearest AED
No, gdje bi bio najbliži defibrilator
04:23
to help this patient?
kako bismo pomogli ovoj pacijentici?
04:25
We asked around and nobody knew.
Pitali smo i nitko nije znao.
04:27
Nobody knew where the nearest life-saving AED
04:30
was to be obtained right now.
gdje ga u tom trenutku možemo pribaviti.
04:33
So what we did, we crowdsourced The Netherlands.
Zato smo učinili sljedeće, mudrošću mase istražili smo Nizozemsku.
04:35
We set up a website
Postavili smo internetsku stranicu
04:37
and asked the crowd, "If you see an AED,
i rekli ljudima: "Ako vidite defibrilator,
04:39
please submit it, tell us where it is,
molim vas prijavite to, recite nam gdje je,
04:41
tell us when it's open,"
recite nam kada je otvoren pristup njemu,"
04:44
since sometimes in office hours sometimes it's closed, of course.
04:46
And over 10,000 AEDs already in The Netherlands
U Nizozemskoj je prijavljeno
04:48
already have been submitted.
već više od 10.000 defibrilatora.
04:50
The next step we took was to find the applications for it.
04:52
And we built an iPad application.
Napravili smo aplikaciju za iPad.
04:55
We made an application for Layar, augmented reality,
Napravili smo aplikaciju za Layar, povećanu stvarnost,
04:57
to find these AEDs.
za pronalazak tih defibrilatora.
05:00
And whenever you are in a city like Maastricht and somebody collapses,
Kad god ste u gradu poput Maastrichta i netko se sruši,
05:02
you can use your iPhone,
možete upotrijebiti svoj iPhone
05:05
and within the next weeks also run your Microsoft cellphone,
05:07
to find the nearest AED
kako biste našli najbliži defibrilator
05:10
which can save lives.
koji može spasiti živote.
05:12
And as of today,
I od danas,
05:14
we would like to introduce this, not only as AED4EU,
htjeli bismo predstaviti ovo ne samo kao AED4U,
05:16
which is what the product is called,
što je ime proizvoda,
05:18
but also AED4US.
nego i AED4US.
05:20
And we would like to start this on a worldwide level.
05:22
And [we're] asking all of our colleagues in the rest of the world,
Zato tražimo od svih naših kolega u ostatku svijeta,
05:24
colleague universities, to help us
na sveučilištima, da nam pomognu
05:27
to find and work and act like a hub
05:29
to crowd-source all these AEDs all around the world.
kako bismo mudrost mase iskoristili da pronađemo sve defibrilatore u svijetu.
05:32
That whenever you're on holiday and somebody collapses,
05:35
might it be your own relative or someone just in front of you,
05:38
you can find this.
možete pronaći ovo.
05:41
The other thing we would like to ask
Druga stvar koju bismo tražili
05:43
is of companies also all over the world
jesu tvrtke širom svijeta
05:45
that will be able to help us validate these AEDs.
05:47
These might be courier services
To mogu biti dostavne službe
05:50
or cable guys for instance,
ili instalateri kablovske televizije, na primjer,
05:52
just to see whether the AED that's submitted
05:54
still is in place.
još uvijek na svom mjestu.
05:56
So please help us on this one
Zato vas molimo da nam pomognete s ovime
05:58
and try to make not only health a little bit better, but take control of it.
i pokušajte učiniti zdravlje malo boljim, i preuzmite kontrolu nad njim.
06:00
Thank you.
Hvala vam.
06:03
(Applause)
(Pljesak)
